Profile tiles are are hard to do with muck, ridge and hips etc... i would just ping a line and use a straight edge... but this really makes sense 😊

Hi guys, can the rebedding /reppointing done in winter and how long before the rain will be sufficient enough for it to dry thank you.
Yes mate it can be done in winter. Must be a minimum of 4 degrees and rising to do cement work . In the winter it will take a few hours to dry enough to not be affected by rain as it’s colder
Summer time it drys much quicker 👍🏻. Hope this helps 🙂

Looks like it could potentially leak at the joints. Nice and straight. How come the hip tiles arent lapping?

No leeks for two weeks lol only joking mate. Just whenever I screw in any ridge I have to use plastic collars underneath them to stop water ingress.
That’s just going to help your cement to break down over time. And if this is new regulations I’ll have to look into it for my own good so thanks for the heads up.

@@revski1979 В моих кровлях, есть зазор между мембраной и черепицей, по нему воздух от свеса подымается и выходит из под конька, эта вентиляция отводит избыточное тепло в жару и лишнюю влагу в мороз, если зазор недостаточен и циркуляции не хватает, кровля портится быстрее, чем должна. Я не совсем понимаю, как у вас устроен кровельный пирог.
Я легко могу поменять любую рядовую черепицу, но если черепица примыкает к коньку, это возможно только при его демонтаже, как вы это делаете для меня магия)))) В любом случае, я буду делать как раньше, но всегда полезно посмотреть на чужой опыт. Спасибо.

After 20 years the cement mortar developed cracks and the house started leaking. How could that have been prevented?
If the Caps were bedded in plenty of mortar with the correct ratio of sand water and cement and allowed to set before pointing then this would have been less likely to happen, weather conditions might have caused it especially temps below zero when the Caps were bedded freshly, ex a cold night would do it. If the mortar is easy to scratch with a Sharp object like a wire nail or scraper then the cement was dead or hit by frost at the time of fitting.

Mechanical fixes? Why… if there’s enough PVA in the mix nothing gets through and the fixings movement over time allows rot below..Never use fixings…

God we use to use these back in the eighties .made them out of batten.we called it a cradle.

@revski1979 definitely mate.we did it a bit different. As we laid all the pug to the top of the cradle .took the cradle of.then laid all the hips in place and pointed up.Great days.leave it to the youngsters now.

There will be a waterproof membrane overlapping the ridge under the tiles which can't be seen.
The ridge batten that you can see is placed over the top of the membrane to enable the mechanical fixing to be fitted.
All the wood will be treated against rot.
This ridge will last for decades and give no trouble.

Nice , but I’m with the over lap to , and it would be nicer if the cement had the matching color of the roof tiles
I would finish the concrete with aquaproof red and prefer to overlap ridge tiles. The finish overlap creates a tunnel from bottom to top where the warm air can escape and suitable for use in my natie Indonesia.

Always bed a bit of broken tile of order a few extra ridge grind them into slithers and bed them under the joints of ridge makes them solid and stops muck falling away

Never use fixings..
Enough PVA in the mix will do that for you and it’s movement over time with the rot it will generate will destroy the wood below.. make shure a ridge tile each end has a small gap beneath to stop the loft heat dam from damp build up within.
Always vent the loft..
You can line it with foil bubble wrap but the moisture bubble of many lofts needs to be kept popped.
Don’t make it a heat dam without precautions.
We have to follow regulations mate . Have to mechanically fix wet bed ridges as well
@revski1979 that's unusual for me to see a wet hip system with the mechanical fixing through the muck. That seems like it would weaken the cement over time?
