    So about a year and a half ago I stopped training and got fat cuz of depression from this covid insanity. Just got back into lifting about two months ago (have already lost 20 pounds from HIT and eating healthy) and my coworkers have noticed. They thought I was crazy saying one set to muscular failure. Then I showed them a picture from a year and a half ago and they didn’t believe I was the same person haha. Long story short I’ve lent YOUR High Intensity training book to one coworker and next week another coworker wants to borrow it. Was telling my coworker yesterday I literally talked to the author (you) and they couldn’t believe it. Thank you again. Your impact is always growing. God bless you.

    Thanks to MM , I’m that guy thats twice the size (by no means the strongest ) of nearly everyone in all the gyms I train at ,that gets in the gym after the others have been toiling away , and I leave the gym before they all finish .

      Good points! Most people in the gym don't know why they are there. They claim they are there to get bigger, stronger or both. Not to mention, they have these marathon type workouts training 5 to 6 days a week. I had one friend who was complaining he was always exhausted from working out. Mind you, he had a full-time job, working overtime and training 6 days a week. I mentioned to him, why not train 3 days a week, training each body part every 7 days? The man looked at me like l came from another planet! He then kind of looked around the gym like, what do l have to lose? It was his leg day. We started with leg extentions and followed up horizontal leg press. We did a total of 10 sets between both exercises. That's including progressive warmup sets. The last sets went to all out positive failure, with forced reps on leg extentions. I didn't see him again until a week later. When we finally meet up, he told that he tried to train his legs 4 days later after the workout, but couldn't. I explained to him that this is different type of training, compared to the bodybuilding magazines. Rest and recovery is vital!

    I think some people tend complicate high intensity training. Just go in the gym and lift weights, or use machines. I generally keep my reps between 8 to 12. If l can lift a weight for less than 8 reps, the weight is too heavy. If can perform more than 12 reps, the weight is too light. When l can lift a weight for 12 reps, l go up in weight for 8 reps again. It's that simple. Mike is also correct about rest-pause, if you are training by yourself. Another great upload! 💪

      Rest pause is good option, even better than drop set, to increase intensity when training alone and forced reps are not possible.

    As I finished up my ex. Science undergrad, we covered hyperplasia a bit. One perspective is that it is found in many animals, but to test it in human beings there are some ethical limitations (according to my Professor)-so, we can’t really know.

    Mike Mentzer was one of the few, if ever, bodybuilders who attempted to apply the science of exercise to understanding muscle hypertrophy. I submit respectfully though that his answer regarding fibre type is incorrect. Muscle fibre type does not change from minute to minute. This is the perils of not being formally educated. Regardless, I respect this man immensely.

    • @HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE
      @HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Science For All. I don’t believe Mike was saying that fibre types; that is, fast twitch, intermediate twitch and slow twitch, change from minute to minute. He was addressing the proposition from that there were two classes of muscle fibre (red and white). When he spoke to an exercise physiologist in Holland who performed muscle biopsies on his calf muscle, the physiologist indicated that the fibres actually changed colour (sometimes red, sometimes white). As a result of this, Mike believed that the matter was far from conclusive. Thanks for your post.

    • @scienceforall8778
      @scienceforall8778 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE Red fibres and white fibres are oxidative and glycolytic fibres are type one and type two fibres. There are different and more complex classification systems of fibres in terms of metabolism or ultrastructure but red and white is simply put type 1 and 11, respectfully. As an aside. I just purchased your book of Mike Mentzer on Amazon. How do I get you to sign it?

    Hey John. I've made fantastic progress over the past year with the basic HIT routine and never really hit a sticking point. I documented my stuff down to the most specific datapoints and plan to release it all soon. But, I want to spend the next three months trying consolidation training to maximize my session intensity while minimizing the volume. Now, Mike advises not to use consolidation training unless you're at a sticking point. I'm not. I just want to try it and maybe rest-pause training too. Do you believe this to be a bad idea? I will document my results like I already have been regardless.
    I've only really started hitting maximal intensity in the last few months, both in the weights I'm moving and in my mental willpower to push myself. I think consolidating training will allow me to exercise maximum output. I want to limit it to three months because I know how taxing it is. Plan is a session every 7 days.
    I will be the ultimate decider, but I value your opinion very highly.

    • @HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE
      @HEAVYDUTYCOLLEGE  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're still making progress I wouldn't change your routine simply for the sake of changing it, but then it's your workout so you will (and should proceed how you deem fit). If you're tracking progress that will help you in the long run to better understand the effects (or relative lack thereof) of any given training routine.
