Plus they are harder to see over the top of because many are so tall. That goes for other drivers, cyclists and pedestrians, and for seeing those cyclists and pedestrians.
Really great video Mikey, you should do more like this. "Take responsibility of driving a vehicle that causes nearly 1.3 million deaths in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. An additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled."
WELL DONE MICKEY! Well done my friend. Love what you do! Your a hero mate. There should be one of you in every city mate. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻THUMBS UP👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
For the starting clip, you have two continuous white lines separating your cycle lane and the traffic lane, surely you can't cross that? Cars can't cross into your lane if that's how the lines are, and same with changing lanes as a vehicle, you can't cross over into a lane if there's a continuous white line separating the two. So you shouldn't have moved out there? And before you say "But how do I turn right or get across to the other side of the road", there is a right arrow at the end of that cycle lane showing you DO need to wait until the end of the cycle lane to move over. So you can't just move out of the lane just because "You wanted the green light". The red light is there for a reason, you need to stop at it. You're in THAT lane, and it's too late to move out. It's the exact same as on a slip road on a motorway, you can't cross the chevrons because you changed your mind too late. You stop at your light. I'm a cyclist too and I do it a lot, and I approve of most of your stuff, but I don't agree with this one. I understand you can use a lane of traffic, but you need to enter that lane WHEN you can to use it, not whenever you want. You left it too late. If I'm in a car, and there is a light that goes green in the lane next to me for JUST BUSES, can I just say, "I want that green light" and switch into that lane? No. I can't. Same principle for cyclists.
Double white lines as per rule 129 look different to this cycle lane edge marking. Rule 129 double white lines separate lanes of traffic moving in the opposite direction from each other, and have a defined spacing and need to have cat-eyes spaced between the lines. The cycle lane edging here might look on first glance like rule 129 double white lines, but are not. They are a nonstandard cycle lane edge marking, and may be crossed by cyclists. The spacing is wrong for rule 129 double white lines, and they are between the cycle lane and the normal carriageway. Here's an ex traffic officer and now road safety consultant confirming what I've told you previously: twitter.com/simonwickers/status/1453042431180607488?s=21 As I've stated previously, these lines are just a cycle lane edging, and cyclists may change lanes across this. One comment related this cycle lane to a motorway slipway (LOL) - in that case, there would be chevrons surrounded by a solid white line. Is there any wonder I catch so many bad drivers when so many people don't know basic highway code stuff, and are having to be educated by me?
Shotkiev =More than mildly wrong, your insufferably incorrect. Worst of all you think your right.... There was no green light for cars /buses just a green light for that lane, which mikey correctly entered and used as per the law...
@@CyclingMikey I see your point but the intentions of these markings are to stop vehicles entering this lane, even if they're wrong, it's common sense to know the intentions of these markings are to stop people from entering/leaving this lane. The comment related to the motorway slipway is not comparing the two, it's just an analogy, saying that if there are markings that are placed there with the intentions to stop you from moving over them, you can't just change your mind and move over them. I didn't say they are similar looking which is what I think you thought I meant. Fair enough, the markings are incorrect for this area, but why else would they be there? Also, you state that these are "Nonstandard cycle lane edge marking", which with a quick google search, all I'm seeing in ONE double white line, or a broken white line. I never came across two double white lines alongside each other, so this statement is wrong. I see your point of view on this, and not sure if you see my point of view on this, but if you have a problem with these markings being incorrect or not clear enough, I think you'd be better off bringing it up with the council instead of a TH-cam video.
@@shotkiev4246 The fact remains that cyclists are allowed to enter and leave this lane at will. Taxi drivers are also allowed to cross this line to set down passengers at the kerb. There is no lawbreaking by me there as several police officers have stated on that twitter topic I linked. If you don't like it you can take it up with the council.
What many people simply don't understand is, even if you were in the wrong using the road while there is a cycle lane, this does not give them a legal reason to endanger a cyclist or any other road user. It is simply not their job to educate others, especially not with "revenge" close passes or similar actions. And you are right, many motorists don't know the rules. They are sitting in their 1 or 2 tone metal box and think they own the road and know everything about it.

As a guy from Belgium with decent safe cycling integrated into our traffic, the thought of being able to switch from a bicycle lane to a car lane _as a cyclist,_ (and the bicycle specific lights therefore not counting) seems weird af. I mean... what are bike lanes for then even? Bike safety seems low over there, keep safe!
Mikey corrected himself it is not a “car” lane…it is a lane for everyone. Cycle lanes are not always fit for purpose and when its not busy switching lanes can help progress. That one was a bit of a strange set up to be honest.
@@1ninjatiger I get LeMe's point. In places with high quality, wide, well maintained, continuous bike lanes that always take the most direct route with priority at lights & junctions, it doesn't make any sense not to use them. I don't know about Belgium but in the Netherlands they are compulsory. Obviously it's not possible in the UK where the provision is so piecemeal & crap...& this is in London which is years ahead of anywhere else in the country.. .
It's not even a legal setup to approved DfT standards, but I think it's to let bikes turn right from that cycle lane across the main lane, as then the main lane has a red light. Anyway, what I did was completely legal.
I don't see the point either. In Paris cyclists are allowed to treat red lights as a "give way" & proceed if there are no pedestrians in the way.... & the sky hasn't fallen in. Allowing cars to do the same would result in carnage, gridlock, or both.

Bertrand Russell: “The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.”
We have a segregated cycle lane being built near me at the moment, great, but it has its problems and won't be appropriate for higher speeds on a bike, the fact that most drivers on here don't know the highway code around infrastructure worries me greatly.
Very interesting video Mikey. Several things struck me: 1. People's ignorance of the traffic laws. Not just regarding using a phone in stationary traffic but also regarding the fact it's not compulsory for a cyclist to use the cycle lane. Plus the ignorance of the Tesla driver. 2. Seems a few drivers out there know who you are, for example that taxi driver and apparently that Mercedes hatchback driver. Lovely to see the gent ask for a selfie with you on Gandalf Island. Now get back in that cycle lane, after all 'You don't pay road tax". Just kidding Mikey and yes I know, road tax was abolished ages ago. Stay safe out there Mikey and keep doing what you do.

Excellent compilation/footage. The Good, The Bad and The Ugly springs to mind here as many of the attitudes displayed the last. Unfortunately it appears that you have a long uphill struggle ahead as there are way too many fone users out there. Stay safe Mikey 👍
Cycle lanes are the bane of every cyclists life. The lane along a dual carriageway in Nottingham is covered with smashed glass, litter and hijacked by pedestrians who don't wish to walk on the paved pavement section. No wonder we rarely used it. But it was good at honing my puncture repair time. I now feel like I could work for Mercedes pit team.
TBF this cycle lane in Hyde Park is Dutch quality, and I love to use it. It's the best quality in the UK pretty much. I'm not going to be using it whilst getting up close and personal enough to capture phone driving evidence, mind.
My belief is if you do use mobiles when In traffic even if stationary then you will think oh this one time will not matter , this going down this road won’t matter , going on the motorway will not matter . A little leads to a lot . Do not use EVER. I drive and agree with you . 👍

I commented on one of your videos a couple of days ago that I had just discovered your channel and loved it, but I realised after commenting that I had seen one of your videos a year or two ago. Something gives me a feeling I may have even left a comment and I can’t be sure, but my comment at that time may have been less than favourable or possibly a “yes, but cyclists” comment. I’ll never know probably which way I swayed at that time, but my opinion now is I really get what you do. You’re very zealous. You carry on doing what you’re doing even though the reality is, you’re fighting a battle that will never be won. Hopefully though, a significant percentage of the people you catch adjust their behaviour as a direct result of this. I’m really surprised so many people are willing to take chances in London, with so many cameras watching their every move. What I like most about your videos is how you manage to maintain a calm and respectful demeanour and tone. That goes a long way to avoiding escalation. I hope you never lock handlebars with a psycho. It only takes one. Take care.
If it were just me doing this, I'd probably agree, but there are tens of thousands of other cyclists with cameras reporting bad driving now. Apparently there are many more drivers than cyclists reporting too, so I think this will bring about change to our driving culture.

The taxi driver did have a point. You should be more aware of the very bad consequences that your actions could potentially cause even if the initial reasonings were for good.
The taxi driver at 10:15, I'm not driving, but guess stuck in traffic lights, but guess a lot of motorist think this. Even myself I know the law, and the only way you can use your phone is, you must be parked up, and engine is suppose to be switched off

His first groupie!
Bertrand Russell:
“The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.”
We have a segregated cycle lane being built near me at the moment, great, but it has its problems and won't be appropriate for higher speeds on a bike, the fact that most drivers on here don't know the highway code around infrastructure worries me greatly.
there needs to be more cycling mikeys in this country your a credit to everyone
Are there videos on TH-cam of the numerous bell ends on bikes riding dangerously ;)
To be fair I've done that before, stopped at a green or slowed down near it then realised... It happens.
Really like this format.
Very interesting video Mikey. Several things struck me:
The ignorance of the ignorant 😂👎
Particularly when they are "professional" drivers
Brilliant Mikey.... could watch this all day. Mack and Maggie, Huddersfield
6:30 you need to paint "⇐ LOOK LEFT TOO !!! " above the LOOK RIGHT
Red light green light 😅 Squid game 101 🤣 The English bull terrier at 10:15 was beautiful, my favourite dog breed grew up with a fully white one he was my little polar bear 🐻❄️ I miss him so much
You are the man!!!! Keep going brother you have fans in the states! God bless
Excellent Mikey
I too grew up in Zim, Bula for me but I can hear a slight Harare twang with you? Amazing to find another zimbo! We went Zim to SA (out of the frying pan into the fire a bit).
If only Zim had kept you, our roads would be a safer place. Keep up the lekker work.
If you ever visit jozi, we've got a spare room, cheers man!
Well heard, I'm indeed from Bambazonke! Went to Saints.
It will always baffle me that Europeans such as yourselves want to live anywhere in Africa
Is it not illegal to wear Headphones while driving? They clearly will impair your hearing.
Excellent compilation/footage.
The Good, The Bad and The Ugly springs to mind here as many of the attitudes displayed the last.
Unfortunately it appears that you have a long uphill struggle ahead as there are way too many fone users out there.
Stay safe Mikey 👍
why do we need cycle lanes when you can chose to use them or not, what a waste of money, they're put in for you, USE THEM
that’s a dumb comment
Love that guy who got a selfie with you hope he sees this
I think you do a good job, definitely made me a safer cyclist and driver.
My belief is if you do use mobiles when In traffic even if stationary then you will think oh this one time will not matter , this going down this road won’t matter , going on the motorway will not matter . A little leads to a lot . Do not use EVER. I drive and agree with you . 👍
Imagine catching a driver watching a CyclingMicky video on their phone whilst driving 🤣
3:46 second seat should be placed higher, so passenger could have a view over driver head, just like pilot behind gunner on AH-64 Apache :)
I’m sure v2 will have that when they add guns to it 😆
That huge truck coming and Mikey saying "I'm not walking Infront of that" gave me a good laugh 😂
Great video!
The manufacturer of the grey trike had the cheek, the balls, the stones to put a spoiler on the back of it?!... And I bet it cost extra, too.
Love your channel. People can never admit they’re wrong. Follow the rules very simple. Be careful out there!
rethoric killer XD. Nice Mikey !
State of the Tesla front alloy wheel.
You see how cordial, law abiding and sane for that matter most people are.
I don't think "cool" is the correct word to describe that E-trike 🤣🤣
Regardless of the cycle red light just for cyclists turning right, why was he stopped on a green light? Poor observation or distraction?
Was looking at the sceen
Either, both...who can tell...?!
I will never understand how people can hate what you do.
Keep doing what you do, Mikey.
Big fan! Stay safe 😊
Cycling with a wheelie suitcase is surprisingly easy, done it plenty of times.
What do you do when you need to signal? Honest question.
Mikey...The better members Of Pistonheads fully support you . You do what is needed without any drama and hold an ability to really fuck naughty peoples days up . God Bless you
I commented on one of your videos a couple of days ago that I had just discovered your channel and loved it, but I realised after commenting that I had seen one of your videos a year or two ago.
Hey felt very happy to know that you also follow SABD. You both should do a collaboration one time..
I need to go visit them in Moscow haha!
3:28 that's the largest cars should be allowed to be
Can it go fast enough to make use of the spoiler?
London traffic looks like a vision of hell. Mind you, I'm from the north...
Mikey you are doing great work better than the police we need more people on the street or road super great video 💯💯💯👍👌 I would love to meet you have photo done with you take care be safe.
Thanks and sure, any time!
What a waste of space!
3:17 - CyclingMikey, If you think thats cool now, wait till you see how the Carver goes around corners !
The taxi driver did have a point.
You should be more aware of the very bad consequences that your actions could potentially cause even if the initial reasonings were for good.
Again CyclingMikey..thanks for all you do!
The taxi driver at 10:15, I'm not driving, but guess stuck in traffic lights, but guess a lot of motorist think this. Even myself I know the law, and the only way you can use your phone is, you must be parked up, and engine is suppose to be switched off
@3:20 - a Carver! Haven't seen one of those since Clarkson + Hammond had one on Top Gear many years ago
Love your vids! How can these ppl argue back using their phones at the wheel! Keep it up lad
Loved the longer video.
You should do more.
The Taxi driver wasn't wearing a seat belt!
keep up the good work Mikey....loving your Chanel
If you were a pedestrian Mikey,he would still be breaking the law.
The quality of the footage is just like you are riding along on the road.
Thanks! My new GoPro Hero 10 plus a LUT from Ground Control!
Are taxi drivers exempt from wearing seatbelts?
@@mytube124qz3 When they are carrying passengers, they are exempted. Other times, they are not...as far as I am aware...! 😉
@@CyclingMikey ... to Major Tom....
@@mytube124qz3 yes they are unless they’re not working ie not for hire then they’re supposed to wear it
