Dave, thank you for answering my question. I just passed my Tech exam and now am working on my General. Looking forward to doing some digital modes on 6 and 10m in the meantime. Perhaps we'll cross paths on the airwaves sometime! Kind Regards DE Tom KE8VBR

Dave. I really love your videos and explanations of the technical side of things. I have a technician class license and have enjoyed sideband ragchew since before I had an amatuer radio license. CB radio sideband was my favorite. After getting my license its hard to have the ragchew like my CB days because of my limitations and 10m isn't very active in my area. I have been listening to HF and paying attention to the adoption of ssb privileges for technician licenses. I just recently purchased an x6100 and itching to use it on sideband. Just to clarify, the ARRL has accepted the proposed band plan, however, the FCC has not so therefore I am still unable to use the "new band plan"? I just want to be absolutely sure before doing so. If that is the case I will just have to take the general test and be done with it. Thank you in advance. KD9QLK

I don't really understand why Techs are limited to SSB on 10m. As long as they stay within their allocated frequency range, why not let them use any voice modulation mode they want? For example, there are 10m FM repeaters, but since a Tech can't use FM, they can't use the repeaters.

As a technician your privileges don't allow you to operate up where the fm repeaters are above 29.500 ,I didn't understand why not when I was a tech but I think it was just to give you a taste of the privileges and prompt you to advance. Kc0rom 73

Personally, I think techs should be able to do more on the other HF bands besides CW. It's a great way to allow them to learn, which is what part of the hobby is about. Just give them a little bit of space to practice, and if they want more, upgrade just like us who want more breathing room.

I agree. So does the ARRL.

When I was a tech(Now a General, with a vanity call) my first 10 meter contact was with VE3AXW Toronto, Canada on 10 meters... 73 DE W6PXL

Dave, if the ARRL were in charge of designating the ham bands, what changes might you suggest to be made?

More HF privileges for Techs on HF bands, including data and voice.

Thanks for the info. but please don't refer to the old licenses as it makes things get confusing. I am a new tech and don't even know what channels to program into my radio. That kind of information would be appreciated. voice would be nice. Data will come in time.

Go to www.repeaterbook.com and look up your local repeaters. That would be a good start for programming.

10 and 12 meters should be given to Technicians.

There's a great deal of history on this. It boils down to the fact that you just need to upgrade to where you get the privileges you desire.

We wanted less government when we asked for lower taxes, we did not get lower taxes, just a different tax scheme, and we got more government - it is your take on that sort of thing that often leads me to stop watching you.

Sorry if you can't listen to another point of view. You have your freedom of speech and so do I. Regarding more government, bureaucracy always grows--it's a law of nature, sadly.

Hello David. Sorry to bother you. This is Tidradio. We want to get in touch with you and cooperate with you. We sent you an email but it didn't work. Is there any other way to contact you? Hope to get your reply

If you have ham radio equipment for me to review, send me an email at askdave@arrl.org. I got your emails, but didn't see how it was related to ham radio. Sorry if I missed something important.
