    Once a powerhouse of the ancient world, Egypt today faces a range of internal and external challenges that are holding it back from becoming a major global economic force. With its prime location between Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, and control of the critical Suez Canal, Egypt has all the ingredients to be a top 10 global economy-but what’s standing in the way?

    A small nitpick: Egypt doesn't have more oil/gas resources than it can consume, as stated in the video. In fact, it's facing enormous trouble extracting the gas it does have, which is not enough for its massive population in the first place. All of the gas that Egypt exports comes from other countries with pipelines to Egypt but no LNG infrastructure of their own.

  • @user-pf1od6ot2h
    @user-pf1od6ot2h หลายเดือนก่อน +8

    Let us not forget that Egypt was affected by a sharp decline in gas exports after achieving eight billion dollars in 2021 and seven billion in 2022. Egypt returned to importing gas. Also, Egypt decreased and lost six billion dollars from the output of the Suez Canal due to the Red Sea tensions, but on another level, Egyptian remittances, Egyptian exports, and foreign investment increased.

    I don't believe Egypt's economy is necessarily one of the best rising, but you are also not being fair to how much the country has evolved lately, the country's previous government of 40 years have kept us late for so many years, so you have to be fair that the current government can't magically turn the economy around in a couple of years.
    Egypt's economy has actually been evolving as of lately, a lot was done and there's much more in progress for the future. Yes we are currently struggling a bit, but that's what most of today's successful countries went through at some point
    Struggling for a better future is not a failure.

    Realistically, a lot of Egypt's economic woes come from overpopulation. Egypt used to be the breadbasket of the Roman Empire but now has to import food. There just aren't enough natural resources in Egypt to sustain their own population. If you're struggling constantly to feed your people, relying on loans and foreign (unstable too!) grain producing regions, that is going to be a constant pressure. Having a good stable agricultural base to an economy is key, or at the very least having enough to feed yourself and ensure stability. Not to mention just how vulnerable they are now to any sort of disruption, environmentally or politically, or the fact that they're running out of living space near the habitable parts of the country. I don't see them escaping the current situation when such a fundamental aspect of their country is so broken.
