She earned that dress! She worked 365 days a year at home! She was the maid, the laundry lady, the dishwasher, the cook! She probably ironed his clothes and picked up dry cleaning weekly. 😮
And??? She did this almost every other week. Have you never watched the show? And actually as most New Yorkers did at the time she sent the laundry out, she was a notoriously bad cook, and spent money like it was water.

$ $ $ 59.00 dollars for a dress was ALLOT of money back in those days. I know they were married in real life...yet that still looked like an enjoyed kissing scene when Lucy was trying to butter up Ricky.
Funny how that particular episode is showing its age. Today, American women often earn enough income that they don't have to beg their partners for consent to buy what they want. Many of these women earn more money than their partner. We must never go back!
Maybe... yet when women began going out into the workforce, there was much lack due to not being home to raise the children. The moral fabric of society weakened when the "natural" roles of men and women got messed with.

She gave herself away when she overdid the buttering up. 😂
She really did love him
I just did the math from the 50’s to now. That dress is almost $700 by today’s standards
I just did the same thing. Goodness! That's SO much money to spend on one dress.
Dresses nowadays are thrown away faster

$60 then is roughly $700 now, that was an expensive dress!
Right! I mean I don’t pay that much now for a dress 😅. In this case Dezy could have flipped his lid 😂😂
I can get a whole wardrobe for $700! Lol
Seriously? For a dress??? That's more expensive than groceries today. And we're in the middle of inflation.
Prom dresses and formal wear go for easily $500 these days

Filmed using film at that time versus the digital they use today
It's a lot of money 💰 now.
Ricky soo smart.

I don’t spend that much on a dress now.
The only reason you can do that is because someone wasn't paid a living wage in order to make something available so cheaply.

Take a look at the current lines of Gucci, Prada, Dolce and Gabana.

I dont spend $60 on a dress even now!
No wonder Ricky was irritated, that dress cost around 700 bucks by our wallets.

I do wish they put English subtitles when Ricky gets angry and speaks Spanish. I know its funny but I like to know what he says
I remember that he says Mira Cosas wrong spelling, but it means look at the things,!,!
Ricky's 'tone of voice' and facial / body expression did all the "talking" that was needed. No need to "translate" what he was "saying" .
