    These videos are incredible to watch. I love the fact that you do your best in analysing players with much less sensationalism than others. The context you provide like saying player x is mainly good because of a certain tactical role or because player y and z did this to allow x to do that help a lot in the understanding of why a player was great and why they were bad. It also brings up a lot of unsung heros from the past.
    Since you do videos on suggestion, I think George Best or Roberto Baggio would be great.

      @@amodghising4845 That's a worthy come back bro. But Lothar was a Box to Box when he plaed against Diego and in Serie A. He was a DM before and after his peak.
      Frank, only got better in the postion and retired with the UCL against his old Milan.
      Movie ending ;)

    Davids is a very one of a kind player. He coupled great ball handling technique with a drive that i've rarely seen. With this he was able to inspire his teammates to work even harder. It's no coincidence that he was at the base of great teams who achieved great things (Ajax, Juventus, Barcelona, Dutch national team). You are saying that he needed to be part of a succesfull team, but i think those teams were succesfull because of him.
    As for the pivot position, you should watch back that match against Madrid in Bernabeu or against Dortmund in the 1995/1996 season. I think these matches were the best he ever played.

      @@pietjepuk5812 : Davids could carry a team by himself at a young age.
      His agressivenes, team player, inspiring, good pace, speed, tactical/technical skills, def/mid/att, makes him a very very tough opponent for every elite player, even now.
      When you have a player like him in a team, you know that you have a strategic beast in the squad, that can score, help defending, duels that needs to be won, eye for other players and never gives up.

    You’re one of the most underrated football channels. Do you rate Deschamps, Kante and Makelele higher than Davids?

    • @PythagorasinBoots
      @PythagorasinBoots  2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      It’s a tough one - Kante longevity wise hasn’t quite matched Davids but in his best form, I feel like his passing/ball winning and positional play is better. Deschamps is super underrated and Makelele is a icon of the CDM role. So yes I’d probably put those guys ahead but in the right set up Davids was a brilliant player too and could turn a good set up into an excellent one - whereas the other guys are more ‘spine’ and the glue - first brick in the building of a side.

    Great video! Most of your analysis is spot on. Although i find it questionable for to say that Davids couldn't play as a pivot. Its true that Davids his mindset was more attacking en adventurous then his fellow "defensive midfielders. Players like Makelele, Deschamps and Dunga where actual protectors of their defense and gave strength to their midfield, rarely moving out position because of their tactical discipline.
    Davids was more a box to box type of midfielder like Vieira and Keane. Great going forward and back. Being able to influence both attack with their energy, skills and determination and being a major defensive presence with their strength, aggression and stamina.
    Comparing him with midfielders like Redondo isnt really fair because Redondo is more like a playmaker who often played as a cm rather then a cdm which he became later in his career.
    Redondo should be compared with players like Pirlo, Guardiola and Busquets, while Davids should be compared with Keane and Vieira.

    New sub here from 🇨🇦. Enjoying your channel PiB.👍your vids are always insightful! A lot of ground to cover when it comes to box-to-box and holding MFs, I know, but it'd be great if you'd actually dive into the analytics and stats, to enrich and support your analysis and grades you give players. Also, a video on Matthäus and 1 for Makelélé would be gold to showcase the different styles of CDMs and the evolution of the role. Arguably, the best of the best of the modern era with Rijkaard in the mix.
