Greetings from Chicago Sean. I've learned alot from you as a novice lawn guy. Yard is 65 years old that I inherited so a long long way to go. THANK YOU and God bless you and your family.
Sean, just took the top off the lawn today, on a high cut. Still spongy with this wet winter. How soon/early should I be looking at scarifying and top dressing, here in N Lancs?
Any advice what to do at base of narrow hedge row between lawns? I've got grass both sides. Tried bit of edging and bark but birds etc are a 'mare throwing it onto the grass every day. I'm thinking higher edging and slate. Seems overkill though. Cheers!
Happy new year Shaun… now looking forward to getting the lawn bug again… just a reminder to all! Get mowers serviced for the new season before the rush🤓 Great vids please keep em coming.
Lovely place and a very nice lawn too. Gonna be amazing in the summer. So jealous that I am gonna have to pick some satsumas from the back garden tomorrow to make up for it. 😁
Dunno if it's much but for the very late / early cuts i use a flymo (40cm). Its low impact on the soil. Its ideal for dicing the late autumn / winter debris. Used it last weekend as a last stage after i top fed the main lawn.
I bought a bag of iron sulphate and separately have a bag of autumn feed. Garden would be clay soil/bad drainage. Should I be applying both or would that be too much (N) for the grass to take, If only one would an autumn feed would be a better choice for the garden in this weather.?
Hi the iron for definite.. as for the autumn feed its better at slightly higher temps, but the weather does sometimes increase so it would have some benefits.. me personally Id def apply it and will be doing soon, but I do buy it in bulk so its more cost effective.. id rather have a bit more down with knowing some will at least be beneficial
In what minimum temperature i can spread iron sulphate and Seaweed mixture? lawn absorb this mixture if next or a few days after spread is 0 or minus degress? Thanks a lot ,you are perfect! :)
Hello ideally wait for any frost to go. I usually wait till about 10am or so.on a frosty day for the frost to lift before spraying so the ground should be a little bit soft
Wouldn’t using a greenkeepers switch be better for knocking off the water? Better for neighbours as well as the environment? I use a plastic lawn rake but my garden is a fair bit smaller!
I don't really use any others.. Ive only ever used this, and another one thats now banned.. but its something I might look to in the future.. sorry just haven't tried any others
@@LawnRight Thanks a lot! I thought herritage was available. I can still get it. I'll give this a go as i'm planning on spraying about once a month apart from the dry summer (6 applications a year)
Can’t wait until the 2025 growing season Sean……only several weeks away….will be hard work levelling seeding and top dressing…..but as I said….can’t wait 😆
Hi shaun, blimey that insignia is a bit pricey. I thought turfsolv was expensive too! As I'm learning as I go am I right in thinking that insignia is a preventative and a cure while turfsolv is preventative only. Thanks!!
Fungicide can only be used a limited amount of times each year, so very much as a curative is the best approach.. the turfsolv is more about creating good plant health but can be used many times
I explained to my wife that walking on frozen grass isnt a good idea. Bless her, she wasn't convinced but didn't walk on the grass. She was convinced however when i showed her where our Postman was saving a couple of seconds walking over the grass rather than staying on the path. Yellow footprints in the grass.
That is a great looking lawn. Obviously well cared for. You are going to have to stop using insignia fungicide. I have that damn 80s advert going through my head again! Cos it's new insignia.......😂
noticed you have lost some weight, looking very healthy! love these videos
Thank you! 🙂🙂🙂 I'm out walking every morning and trying to eat better too.. had no booze now for 39 weeks

Thanks for popping by.. you'll be amazed how fast things can turn around with a few bits of TLC

Hi id be looking at March or April depending on the weather and if the ground is pretty firm

What about a row of driveway blocks on a sand cement bed? That way you've got somewhere for the mower wheels to run on
@@LawnRight Cheers I think you're on to something 🙂 will try paving bricks or red brick I already have.
My lawn has gone to shit over winter. So much moss, getting really patchy. I think the excess of rain has waterlogged it and ruined it.
Yeah it's happens a lot unfortunately things are very well nowadays over winter
Wow, I just checked the prices of the items you linked. Very expensive. I'll look for cheaper options.
Yeah these are professional products that i use day in day out. You can find cheaper iron online but the fungicide is basically a one price thing

Thanks mate and YES.. sharpened before the rush.. they do get crazy busy in spring
Why do you put fungicide on the lawn? I thought fungi were vital for natural ecosystems? And helped with issues like drought etc?
Many different sorts of fungi, some are beneficial
Always great advice..
Cheers 🍻

🤣🤣🤣
PS already done the topdressing here - Continental European mild winter here. Leaving time for the bulbs in the lawns to come through.
Sounds like a plan.. I'm just holding off as will be overfeeding this one in spring

You offer a lit of common sense for those living in a European 4 season climate.
Thank you so much 🙂🙂
I’m going to be redoing my garden this year should I kill it off now? Are just rotavator it?
I was going to kill mine end of feb and put a few tons of soil down end of march …
Really you can do it whenever.. the weedkiller won't be as active nor work as qui k especially if we get more frosts.. plenty of time yet

@LawnRight thanks for the above. My lawn is in a much better place over the lawn 2 years from your help/advice, even the wife notices.. Legend 😀

Hi yes it's fab idea 💡
What other fungicide would you use with Insignia? I'm looking at dedicate which looks like it could cycle qell with it.
I don't really use any others.. Ive only ever used this, and another one thats now banned.. but its something I might look to in the future.. sorry just haven't tried any others

How many m2 do you spread your 1kg iron sulfate in 20L water?
the 20 litres with green lurmark dt7.5 nozzle gets about 400 sq metres cheers

Me neither 😊
