      Yep, barring any other serious medical conditions, it's nearly impossible to overdose on bananas (potassium poisoning). You'd need to eat like 400-500 bananas a day for a period of time to build up lethal levels of potassium.

    The history of this dish is fantastic. Back in the late 1940s and early 1950s, bananas began to be heavily imported into the US, but they were still seen as an unusual item at the time. Several of the fruit companies working out of New Orleans, Louisiana, wanted to improve how bananas were perceived, and commissioned the chefs at the Vieux Carré restaurant to come up with several new dishes that all featured bananas. Bananas Foster was created by restaurant owner Ella Brennan and the restaurant's chef Paul Blangé, who modified a dessert that Brennan's mother made (the original recipe called for apples rather than bananas). They named the resultant dish after Brennan's friend, Richard Foster, who at the time was the chairman of the New Orleans Crime Commission.
    Classic banana pudding with vanilla wafers and the classic banana split ice cream sundae were both invented for the same purpose: to increase banana consumption in the US. And they worked like a charm. Bananas are the single-most popular fruit in the USA, and have been for decades!

    • @valkyrie1066
      @valkyrie1066 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Thank you for the history. I remember, banana splits, banana pudding, and bananas foster were bigger than they are now. It's easier to get bananas, so they aren't "that special ingredient" like they were when I was little. And that's just the cavendish! Living in both Cuba and Southern California; we can get many other varieties as well, which I ALSO love. From a grumpy old gal who plays games!

      Fun fact: During my studies in history of religions, I read up on views about the use of alcohol in after shave among muslims. And there are different views in what way alcohol is haram. For example one imam said that it's not alcohol in itself that is bad, but the actions it might make a person to do while drunk. So it might not be an issue.

    Was going to suggest this a while back , . As I am remembering you had them try banana nut bread which ties into this around here in southern US , . A few suggestions for future related food reactions, 1, "Bananas Foster Deluxe" which is described below , . A good thing to add with bananas foster is banana nut bread which is most desirable and craving food bananas foster and banana nut bread are , also we would add this bread on the side which we do here in South US where this was created to round it out in sweetness, and the bread helps with the sauce and adds a fullness to this dessert , . There is also the habit here in the south to add strawberry which we grew in patch , blackberry witch grew wild, and even orange marmalade to cut the flavor of sweetness , we would add this fruit or presserves of fruit on the corner of the ice cream , . Which gives you a a bit of a version of a banana split, . As also add a meat of your choice and egg on the side , . When served with all this it serves as it's on meal in itself as well as a dessert which will last you thru lunch and a bit longer if you get busy or get delayed etc , . As for the fruits which we could grow here in Virginia in the summer months and made into fruit presserves with some pride as we could not grow bananas here , those were the days when we grew up with raising a garden when i was a kid . When served with all this it becomes a meal unto itself and is good in winter months also as it cheers you up , . With the this type of bananas foster is what we call "Bananas Foster Deluxe" here in Virginia , . They liked this so much , it especially Chaurdhury would like this regularly it would be unto their liking to have this version of "Bananas Foster Deluxe" as I doubt that they would complain having this served again in a more Deluxe way as it gives you a glow and good feeling most of the day , . Oh you have made me have a craving as i have not had this way in a good while, . Suggestion 2 , . The "Elvis" or "Fried Peanut Butter Banana Sandwich" which is prepared as such with each sandwich with two slices of bread spread peanut butter on one slice and butter on the other slice to your liking and add sliced banana round bits or long sliced people do it both ways here and put sliced banana on peanut butter and sometimes you add beef or turkey bacon to the buttered slice put both slices of prepared sandwich together then fry in a pan hopefully a seasoned cast iron frying pan like you would a grill cheese sandwich , you can also dip the already fried/grilled sandwich in a sweetened batter and put in a deep fryer repeat a deep fryer to have a Deluxe version which is crunchy this is usually served with a milk shake chouse your flavor etc , . Sugestion 3 The "Elvis Back In The Building" which is prepared as such you get a long loaf of home style baked bread and slice horizontaly which you will have two long slices of bread a top and bottom and spread peanut butter on bottom slice and a favorite fruit jelly or presserves on the top slice and add up to a pound of beef or turkey bacon on peanut buttered bottom slice and put together this is a large sandwich i mean Large Sandwich which you eat as a bit as a working breakfast and lasts you thru lunch and some breaks for your work day, This sandwich is not fried at all as you can eat a bit and wrap up and put down to eat a bit or finish later as you do not want any greese getting on anything you touch this is pretty good for getting you thru the week days you encounter if being a ways from home etc , . They would probably like these as well as at home or at work or long journeys etc , . Sorry for the long comment , but have Best Wishes , and Take Care , expressions we constantly say here in the south , and .. Thank You Thank You Very Much

      Tinctures are made to give the flavor, rather than the alcohol, as these men do not believe in drinking. Bakery shops have "rum" "brandy" and other such flavors to add the taste without the alcohol. I am 100% certain they would not serve them alcohol; that would be an abuse of faith. It is funny to see some of them act drunk even without alcohol in the beverages. The non alcoholic wine was funny! ME? I'd add the dark, spiced rum!

      @Davi Clar One of my husband's favorite things to order when we go out for breakfast or brunch is Bananas Foster Belgian Waffles!
      I've seen it at different restaurants with pancakes, French toast (and stuffed French toast) as well as the waffles.
      I'm not a big fan of bananas in general, but every once in a blue moon, I do get a craving for a banana split! 😊

    I'm American in my 40's and was born & raised in US. These gentlemen have tasted stuff I've never tried... I've been watching for 3 months. I love it, Indian / Paki food and some lifestyle is similar to Mexican. I love how the dissect ingredients but do wish they were given breakdown too.

    Love Banana Fosters. By the way according to Taste atlas the country with the most dishes in the Top 100 is the USA with 18 and most desserts in Top 100 with 25, most cocktails with 35 and most sandwiches in the Top 100 with 40. USA together with Italy also is the country with the most dishes invented worldwide. Both countries have double/Triple the amount of the country in 3th place (Spain) with only 430 dishes invented. USA have the best and most diverse/popular food in the world by fat
