    I understand that a small town in rural Oklahoma might not have the top-of-the-line forensics people but when there is a fire where FOUR people should be sleeping and only ONE body is found and that body has a bullet wound, HOW ON EARTH did they not search that scene closely enough to uncover additional bodies. "Incompetent" does not even begin to cover this level of carelessness. This is downright appalling.

    • @somethingelse4424
      @somethingelse4424 ปีที่แล้ว +80

      Yeah, sometimes the incompetence is at least somewhat understandable. In this situation it almost seems like they went out of their way not to do their jobs... maybe because of animosity relating to the killing of their son. Perhaps that particular sheriff's department didn't appreciate the family's reaction and also had biases because of the father's involvement in growing weed. It kind of seems like they decided "these people are criminals and they get what they deserve". Obviously that would be disgusting, unconscionable, and unprofessional if it were the case.

      ...unfortunately I can tho my mind probably wouldn't have been able to had I not just got thru watching this.... yeah it'd hafta be what those piece of shits put those two baby girls with their whole lives ahead of them thru up until and including killing them. Omg! I think they should dig them up and all of their parents and burn their remains over and over until there's no one left to light the fire... just the thought of anything like this sickens me so badly I don't believe I'd have any problem killing them with my bare hands. Give them to the girls fathers and brothers to dispose of however they see fit is what I say and televise the most devious resulting punishments and I bet the incidents such as these will slow till they wither completely away.

    The police discarding Welch's insurance card almost definitely sealed those two poor girls' fates to being SA'd and murdered. They were admittedly alive for several days after being kidnapped meaning if the police followed those leads, it is entirely possible that those two girls' could've been found alive in Welch's trailer.

Just think of how easy it is to do it in big cities that we live in especially metropolitan areas. There was a lot wrong with this case the way it was handled. But the one thing that baffles me among the many other things about that baffles me, that this police chief was still there to retire! Retire? Wtf. Then the fact that no one had a conscience to come forward to authorities at any time during those years after being shown the pictures of the girls! No one felt any remorse for them to stop by or even anonymously a call. Even after a few years those meth heads wouldn't remember everyone they told. The only other reason for not doing so, imo, would be the sheriff or police chief being in on it. Or the men involved know a thing or two about the police chief that he doesn't want anyone to know about. The later part I can definitely see happen. So sad for the girls and the family

When they finally looked at that box of evidence and listened to witnesses, it just caused more anger at the callous disregard the case had first been treated with. They could have found those girls alive! I can't imagine what the families have gone through. To know that this piece of crucial evidence was right there at the scene, if the found it and acted on it, would haunt you. They were at that house for days, I just feel so much for that mother, I couldn't begin to imagine that pain.

Once I found my car (yes, I found it, NOT the police), the car was littered with Credit Cards, Debit Cards, SS Cards, Insurance, Medical, cash and drugs. They wouldnt confiscate any of it. The cops seriously just did not care, and told me to go on about my day.

      True, I've lived in Oklahoma since the late 1990s. I noticed pretty fast as a teen that people were different here in Oklahoma, especially in small towns. But the thing that really made me side eye my neighbors and everyone else was that everyone knew EVERYTHING about every single person in town plus the surrounding areas. When we had a murder of a well loved elderly man that liked to hang out at one of the few bars in town. Everyone immediately started pointing their fingers towards a couple of guys and the issues they had with each other. There is still no arrest. Recently, we had a man shot on his front porch because he was supposed to meet up with a couple of friends. He was just waiting for them to pick him up. Everyone knows it had to do with a drug deal and owing money. Heck, even the vehicle was described to the cops. Yet again, no arrest.

    And the POS couldn’t even give them that, he couldn’t even give them that closure.
    They’d have gotten closure a lot sooner had the Police just done their job, all they had to do was actually search the scene, actually collect evidence, actually listen to witness statements, especially when they’re told “hey, this guy has POLAROID PHOTOGRAPHS”, the Police just ignored everything because what, they didn’t want to bother? They didn’t want to do the work? They just wanted the uniform but none of the responsibilities? It’s negligence of the highest degree and it’s actually rage inducing. Maybe the Police could’ve actually done their jobs before the POS died and found the girls.

He had contacted the sheriffs department, and the OSBI and apparently they had said to the PI do you want us to do with us?… had they worked on that lead the girls would have been alive today. The PI was threatened by the sheriffs office, that if he continue to work this case, he would have his license revoked, so he had no choice but to stop investigating the case. This was a documentary where the PI himself said this. So to say that the sheriffs office obviously had some thing against this family was not far-fetched.

Some are cleared by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations as suicide so it must be, right? Right? I can assure you- they aren’t suicides. One of the latest ones was suicide by gunshot out in the woods, yet no gun to be found. Still ruled a suicide. Or the case of accidental “ I shot my teen daughter 4 TIMES “. Our local Sheriff ruled “ accident”, and no charges filed. The alleged shooter Mom and Sheriff were friends. Luckily for once the OSBI opened that case back up.

      Seems to be the case in the majority of small rural towns in both USA and Canada, have to assume same in UK. I have heard of two murders in Northern Ontario the police just put down to accidental death. One man had his head cut off but police had no clue on how to conduct an investigation, hence it went unsolved, meanwhile the whole town suspected his very well known enemy. Real life ain't like in the movies.

    I live in Oklahoma, about an hour away from Welch. I really appreciate your coverage of this dismal case. Those girls, and their families, deserve so much better than what they got from the sheriff's office and the OSBI. Btw, Lauria's mom is amazing. She's been on the investigators since day 1, and has gone to every investigation and search for the girls, even though she is very ill. Within the last 5 years or so, she had to have a liver transplant, and she still seems to struggle with her health. Another case here in Oklahoma was mishandled just like Lauria Bible and Ashley Freeman: the case of Carina Saunders. She died a violent death, and rumor has it that she was dismembered while alive. It's an incredibly disturbing case, and incompetently investigated.

    This story was quite an emotional journey. What spoke to me in this particular chapter was community. They came together to support the family from the beginning to the bitter end. Laura Bible and Ashley Freeman's story reignites the conversation around "defunding the police." For 20 years, the police to prosecutor's office chose not to believe or protect the community, which led to a family being unable to heal from their personal loss. I hope the
    Bible, Freeman, and the community find closure in this chapter.
