  • In another life where I could stomach the idea of doing either a pediatric or emergency medicine residency, I know I would've been a pediatric emergency medicine doctor. Wear your helmets and stay off of motorcycles, trampolines, and ATVs.

Listening to the guardians/caretakers of patients is really a lost art in medicine. I remember during my 6th year clinical rotation (Pharm D), I spent most of my time listening, taking extra patient history, educating and comforting the guardians and the patients, to the point that they were visibly happy to see me whenever I walked into the ward. It is all about communication. And the best part is bumping into them a few years down a random street and they coming to talk to me to remind me of their experience at the hospital.
One thing I tell my juniors and other colleagues is to always make sure they leave a positive impact in the lives of anyone they happen to take care of, cos it can always be you in their position.

The board dropped at 13:56 after a great speech and the screens behind also blacked out, making it a perfect shot. It's a sign that Andy's gonna be a great doctor :) Keep up the good work doc. You're a true champ!

You mentioned ACS and that looks like Hyperkalemia?? I got EKG certified last year and have not renewed it since so pls don’t roast me if that’s wrong. I’m an incoming freshman in college on the premed track and Andy, your videos have inspired me, motivated me, and made me realize that this journey is not easy but sure as hell worth it and I thank you for that. I’ve never felt more sure about any decision in my entire life thus far and I feel proud to say that I want to become a doctor because of videos like this. Your channel has given me insights into what it means to be an M.D. and that it’s so much more than just having an incredible understanding of the human anatomy and having amazing cognitive ability and whatever other “doctor traits” there are, but to use those skills in unity with kindness, love, understanding, and consideration to truly help those in need. Thank you so much Andy, and I can’t wait to see you graduate med school and take on the world as a doctor because the world, specifically hospitals, need more people like you.

Great content, thank you for the insight. It’s really inspiring!
There’s one thing I’ve always wondered, how is an emergency- pediatrician different from a pediatric-emergency medicine doctor, like work wise, do they both ultimately do the same thing or is it different?

FYI (coming from a hospital pharmacist), I would document to make sure you return those to waste back at the hospital, especially the medications for your own protection and/or remove that part of the content from the video.

Andy…Wow. Eloquent about how listening is so essential. And the centrality of character. I'll never suture as you did here, but listening to your two case experiences while you sutured was moving. A few weeks ago you seemed a bit down. Today that ND MD to be was on proud display. Thank you as ever.
