Having terminally ill family members the lack of funding for the NHS and the pay rates for the staff honestly terrifies me.
You all do such an amazing job, I really hope and pray that it turns around because it truly is incredible service that we should all be grateful for

Hi Alex this was raw I love how honest and genuine you are. Yes I agree, we have the best NHS and staff need to be looked after. You guys are definitely under paid and the Government needs to sort this out. It’s been going on for so long maybe it’s time for a protest take a stand. It’s the only way to be heard. Or set up a petition. Something to think about. Xx

    • @jmk1962
      @jmk1962 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes I agree a petition rather than strikes would help especially right now when Covid has literally halted the country.
The government has to sit up and listen and actually do something this time.

love this video as someone going into 3rd year of med school. I know what I'm getting into. There will be the highest of highs and the lowest of low moments, but the end results of how much people like yourself can truly change someone's life is all that matters.

Honestly, you and the all your colleagues are smashing it! There is so much love for the NHS and I think people have realised how well it's done considering the lack of funding! The NHS is being treated like a charity but it needs proper govt funding.

Alex, no you cannot save everyone, you can only do your best. When my mum was in ICU, sadly l saw death every day and it was horrible. An when l work in a care home, l spent the last hours comforting the dying resident, one thing I learnt was l did my best and gave that person the best care and comfort l could give. Abuse l find should never happen an l dont tolerate it or should you. Absolutely you put the hours in and for little pay which is just outrageous tbh. The NHS is a very important service and so are the people that keep it striving, we all should be very thankful for your service. I know l am and l have great respect for the Drs and Nurses etc, they are the backbone of the NHS an you all should be honoured.Thank you for being on the frontline and risking your own life to save others.

I was a medic for about 10 years and an RT (respiratory therapist) for 5 years before going disabled. I’ve lost many patients especially when I worked in NC over the years. Some really tore me up while others who are older and it was expected it wasn’t so bad as I was in the field for so long. I didn’t work during COVID-19 but I did during the Ebola scare and H1N1. The lives you save make it all worth it. The abuse and stress can be overwhelming as well. I miss it. Now unfortunately I’m the patient and have been hospitalized a lot including the ICU where I’ve come close to dying.

Although I am not a doctor (I’m a nurse) all of these things have rung true with me and my own healthcare journey and I believe anyone who works in healthcare can relate to these things. Especially the one about not being able to save everyone. The memory of watching someone bleed out and having to phone a relative to say they have passed away will never leave me. The stress of the job has made me realise we need to look out for each other and be supportive. I chose not to look after myself and it’s only now I’m paying the price after having a nervous breakdown. But I am healing and moving on and I still wear my nursing scrubs with pride. Keep up the good work Dr Alex and stay safe 💙✊🏻

Just love your channel Alex and gaining knowledge from you on an array of subjects including this one. My mum was a senior staff nurse and she would never retire because she loved her job and unfortunately she never did get to retire and died at just 70 which 2 years on im really struggling with but she always said the pay and value was always far lower than other professions and considering how many years of dedication to study you guys have to do to qualify its a subject that very much needs addressing and soon! Personally, I suffer with long term health conditions and i consider myself so lucky to have the services of the NHS and would like to thank you too for all of your efforts in a&e aswell as the awareness you are bringing through your channel and media on subjects like mental health etc all credit to you xx

Having worked as a nurse for over 30 yr (showing my age now), everything you say is so true and agree with the 5 things you hate about the job.. It’s never easy when a patient dies, even though you know that nothing else can be done. Mental resilience is key otherwise you cannot do the job. Sometimes missing various family events is a bonus ( don’t tell anyone!), but more often you do feel like you are missing out. But people need health care 24/7 and thank god we are there to help. Keep safe x

completely agree abuse should not be tolerated at all, I really feel for you all that have to deal with that and still treat them with care and compassion...NHS staff 100% should be pain more and tbh the whole emergency section and care professional wage needs to be looked at as some carers get basic minimum wage..Thankyou for being honest and making awareness Alex, really enjoy this channel 🙌🏻

I stand with you Alex i hate seeing or hearing about any of our NHS or Paramedics being abused for helping others in need. • @LizCurran

Thanks for the video. I 100% agree abuse from patients is unacceptable & I’m sorry you have to suffer this occasionally. On pay, there’s a real disparity between social care pay, especially domiciliary carers who are often on zero hours contracts, and NHS pay. So I think any independent review should cover a wider brief & look at funding of social care, which is absolutely essential, too. Thanks for all your work Alex. Have a great weekend. I hope you’ll be bubbling up 💕 X

Wow this is so raw and honest. I have always been in awe of the NHS and it’s terrible how it’s treated with lack of funding. If anything comes out of this pandemic hopefully it will be that more people realise how much we need it and how much it’s taken for granted. You are all incredible and inspirational. Abuse towards any of you is shocking and disgraceful there are unfortunately terrible people and you still treat them which is amazing and must be so hard.

I totally agree and understand the things you hate and rightly so ! I think the people who are abusive should be chucked out and not treated . when my husband was in A&E it was full of drug addicts wasting Drs time and resources they where rude and abusive to staff and my husband had to wait for these idiots to be treated first , it made my blood boil !! Also re NHS funding there is a lot about nurses pay but very little about cleaners , porters, pharmacy techs , most are on min wage ! However before more money is thrown in the NHS bottomless pit the holes need to be filled in ie pharmacies dispensing the cheaper generic drug and endorsing the script to the NPA that they had given out the dearer trade name , over prescribing bin bags of medicines to the elderly on an ongoing repeat !, I was horrified to find many elderly people had a whole cupboard of tabs out of date all gone to waste and even if they are in date they cant be re used . There is so many loopholes that need tightening even down to NHS staff being paid months on the sick , no business can operate like this and I have met many in my time that where off swinging the lead on full pay for months on say mental state when they where at parties on Facebook! thousands of pounds in NHS money is wasted on this sick pay & dispensing alone ! THANKYOU Dr Alex for all you do xxx

I admire your positive attitude. Here in the States, I think a LOT of Doctors are in it for the $$. Not everyone here has hospital insurance and so many can’t afford doctor care and hospitalizations. It is very expensive to pay for good medical care here out of pocket.

Thank you for this Alex. I will certainly bear this in mind when I next visit a hospital or a doctor. From the patient point of view, there are two things about the NHS which are great. Firstly, I the US, you are only one serious illness or accident away from bankruptcy. Here in the UK, this burden is lifted. Secondly, perfectly valid treatments e.g. exercise, diet change or even "do nothing" are unlikely to be prescribed in a commercial system, because doctors have to recommend treatments which can be billed

    Dear Alex,
To help with the stress and the abuse from drunks etc, please in your downtime listen to people like Ajahn Amaro on you tube and when it’s open please visit Amaravati....lots of ex doctors there ..it’s peaceful and they give you the tools to deal with the ups and downs..during this time, Ajahn Amaro frequently mentions his respect for the frontline medics at this time. Massive respect for the wonderful and noble work you and your colleagues do.
A question which you probably can’t answer ...my father suddenly became very sick in December..could barely walk or breath..we took him to Ashford A and E ..after 17 hour wait he finally got a trolley on a corridor and then a bed..his condition deteriorated and he was on 100% oxygen with catheter and other tubes and told by the consultants not to move off the bed as when he did he was totally exhausted...all symptoms of covid...we were warned not to except him to make it.......fortunately he did ..many months to recover, get energy and his voice back ...is it possible that he could have had covid-19 ?
    Thanks thanks thanks....💙

Excellent video- I agree about the abuse given by a very small minority to NHS staff- it has to be stopped or at least minimised.
    Keep up the good work!
Could you do a video where someone else interviews you with questions from your viewers ?

Think all doctors are amazing. I do worry about the NHS people need to stay awY like they have been doing during the covid epidemic, that’s one good thing. People who go to doctors and A & E for stupid stuff. Stop it, The car park, why are the car parks owned by parking eye, random company’s like that, why can’t the parking fees go straight into the nhs ???
Thankyou for you and people like you in the NHS 🙏
