When Chief Osceola comes riding out on that Appaloosa and drives that spear into the turf that is awesome I get chills and I am not really a FSU fan. But that is Awesome.

I really need to go to another game at Doak. I've really been away from the stadium for wat to long, I think the game I went to was the 2011 game against Miami. It gives me chills even watching him plant the spear on TH-cam or TV.

If you think that that applies here, spend a little time reading about the Seminole Tribe's relationship with FSU. The Tribe helped design the uniforms, they're involved in their curriculum, are are fully involved with each and every way FSU uses the Seminole logo. They have given FSU their blessing. VERY different scenario than those you described. NONE of those others including the Braves & Chiefs have a relationship with the Seminole Tribe of FL.

The Seminole Tribe was the only tribe to never be conquered by the US government and the last to sign a peace treaty. The Seminoles approve all of these activities and are FSU's biggest supporters! I'm not a Seminole, I'm Cherokee and my wife is Choctaw and we love this tradition!

Respectful & inspirational tribute. Also, interesting that Montie of SDSU was mentioned, partly provoking my response since I studied there & had reflected & researched about the symbolism & historical accounts beside the comparison in characterizing each representative in these displays. I believe Montie is considered an amalgam of the warrior ethic, the display also has critics & supporters else considered benign display among else either promoted exploited tolerated & else among relative ethics spectrum. As most everybody surmises, whether infer imply represent or else, but mascot seems diminutive when the situation with Chief Osceola deserves personal respect & dignity, to me appears honorable tribute by FSU & seems inspiring their athletics efforts. Mebbe it's their opponents concerned about being on working end of the spear? Inspiring a check an the anthropology curricula too would be interesting path of research.
