To all you people saying that minis were bred to pull carts in mines, no. Those were Shetland ponies. Minis are much more refined with lighter bones and less pulling power. The most a mini should pull is 2-3x their weight on a flat and this is clearly much more than that. This can’t possibly be good for their joints.
The point of them doing this is the same point as humans competing in the Olympics or any other contest. To show what you can do, and how well you can do it, and to get better at it.

I agree! I don't understand how hitting them with the reins is illegal yet the drivers are allowed to rip the hell outta their mouths! I have a mini I would like to pull next year (once I find her a suitable partner) and I can hitch her in just a halter! Makes you wonder what these 'manly men' do to these poor little guys behind the barn at home!
Aletta Husmann I come from a pulling horse background, you don't need to tell me about pulling. And btw that excuse is total BS, a horse is what the driver makes them. They are anticipating being yelled and hollered at to take off once they are hitched so they become very excited and stressed once they are near the load, especially if they have blinders on and can't see behind them. It's the same with the draft pulling horses except they are anticipating being whipped with the reins.

They act just as excited as racehorses at the track and calm right down after the pull. ya'll need to chill, some horses do show emotions when they are in the show ring and get PUMPED ! its a short 10 second video of each pair so its hard to determine who is 'abusive' and whom loves their jobs
I actually know a pony that used to do this crap. His back legs are now jacked up because of it. So whether he was "eager" to pull or not. I don't think this is good for horses. I'm sure those wagons at least had wheels on them. Alls I saw here was a bunch of ponies heads flying up in the air while being yanked backwards by adult men.
As you can see after the Mini’s stop pulling the whistle blows. They aren’t forced to pull to a certain point. If something’s too heavy they’ll take off weight.
Their poor little mouths are just being butchered by the bits in their mouths. D: And if this is all they ever get to do, it might be why they're so jumpy, they just wanna get it over with.
Im sure all those screaming about "cruelty" have no idea that NO encouragement from handlers is lawful. They; horses, ponies, mules, oxen.. pull on their own. They can stand still if they wish. Look at how its done. No whips, no threats. And only as much as they WANT to pull. It gets heavier with each pull, so they know when its enough. THEIR CHOICE.

I was at a Belgian Horse pulls this past weekend and wondered if there was such thing as mini pulls...love it!!

They been pulling ponys for many yrs. These are larger end mini also small end shetlands. These little guys are power houses
