I've been swimming with many types of rays in many parts of the world, but this giant manta experience is next level amazing. Highly recommend. Kona is one of the few places you can have this type of encounter.
Jeff Stein no!! The lights are actually what attract the mantas. Seeing mantas like that is very very rare, but off the coast of a hotel near captain cook, they had some led lights in the water and started seeing lots of mantas. Again-very, very rare. The lights attract plankton which are a mantas primary food source, therefore attracting the manta rays. They take you close to the coast of the hotel, and turn lights on on rafts, and you hold on and keep your feet up so as not to kick the mantas accidentally, and they swim right up beneath you!!! It’s the coolest experience in the world. Really a rare phenomenon!!
