      No secret that a firefighter’s uniform makes you look taller, thinner, and definitely more handsome. Ask any woman…
      I once watched 4 fire guys walk into a grocery store to get sandwiches. Cashiers were all women. Every line stopped while the cashiers watched the view. It was so noticeable that the customers…more women…began to smile…and chuckle.

    love those red n green lights on the truck front end, like Chicago FD. Also love the SFFD laid back approach…they don’t come out of the chute with the Q screaming and horns non-stop…they ease on down the road. Respect.

    • @JMackin88
      @JMackin88 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      San Francisco actually has green lights on the front end of their truck companies only and that’s due to the heavy fog that the city experiences; that allows a chief or even other incoming companies to know that that company should get the front of the building as that is a truck company. Chicago has the green lights on all apparatus due to historical traditions involving maritime law whereas San Francisco has it for positioning on a fire building.

    Very slick production! Nice to see a Ferrara, ALF and Spartan all responding out of house. That was weird with the rescue coming out pumper's bay door. A tiller truck is a aerial truck.. at water tender is a truck that only carries water..usually around 2000 -3000 gallons

    • @landslave
      @landslave วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      In the US and Canada the designations are E-Engine P-Pumper W-Wagon (wagons can only have a driver and carry hose and a tank of water, or can just be another name for engine or pumper) (engine, pumper, and wagon all mean the same thing in many departments), rarely there are 2-piece engine companies (a wagon and a pumper travel everywhere together - Washington DC used to have this system) T-Truck L-Ladder (same as a truck) S-Squad (can be heavy rescue or a smaller utility vehicle) R-Rescue (some places this is a behemoth heavy rescue squad truck, and other places it is an ambulance) A-Ambulance (usually basic life support) M-Medic (advanced life support ambulance). Tanker- large tank of water on a truck. Buggy or car (chief's vehicle--buggy is a holdover from horse-drawn days, as is wagon).

    My only concern with today's emergency services is that they walk , without urgency ,
    Taking their sweet time!
    I mean you don't have to run, but walk at an faster pace!
    Our goal was to be enroute within 2 minutes off receiving the alarm, fully geared up!
    Not running, but a brisk pace.
    And we trained on that with drills, especially when we had new comers
    Time is precious,
    Every second counts,
    All lives matter!

    Does SFFD Engine 1 sleep? Maybe on Sundays, but any other time probably not. Engine 3 never does. SFFD Squad 1 is also very busy, one of the busiest in the US actually. I can't remember what firehouse it is, but there is one on the edge of the Bronx and uptown Manhattan that is the busiest for the FDNY; because of their position, they get 25 to 30 calls a day.

    I live in S.F. and know the department and that station well. It’s in the top 3 of busiest stations in the City, and in the top 20 in the US.
    About 85% of its calls are medical, as they are in the heart of the largest homeless/drug OD populated parts of the City. It’s a very tough house, with the near constant trauma they have dealt with over the years. Maybe 1 death per day that they respond to, and dozens of OD’s and other trauma, like the first call where someone wanted to jump off a building. Happens regularly.
    As to specifics, that door was indeed heavily damaged and it took awhile to repair, as it was a custom made door for the station.
    Also, the engine and ladder are 5-8 years old, but that is the reserve rescue, as their much newer rescue keeps breaking down …most new rigs have a bad time in S.F., due to the wear and tear from the busted streets, hills, etc. Electronics, busted frames and body mounts, etc.
    Older rigs just hold up better --that spare rescue is maybe 30 years old now, and runs just fine. The station near my home has been running with a reserve pumper that dates back to 1993 for close to four years now, and it runs like a champ. New rigs are crap, because they wind up buying usually from the lowest bidder, without factoring in downtime…the troops hate it…☹️
    Very traditional department, full of amazing history and culture. Has had its ups and downs with racial tensions over the decades, but it’s pretty calm in recent years. And it doesn’t hurt that the average firefighter pay is in the $175-$180K range - and it was recently reported that a goodly number are in the $200-250K range due to overtime needed to staff the department. Not a bad gig..😊

    If you are going to turn out that slowly, why would you need lights and sirens. SHAMEFUL.

      If you're going out 30 times a day and drive for only 2-5 minutes for every call, would you run for every automatic fire alarm? I doubt it. Maybe on the 1st day. You have absolutely no idea what these firefighters achieve every day, so be quiet.

      @Firescue112 excuse me. It is in the culture to turn out in some departments and not to turn out in others.
      Let me tell you something the more service a fire department has, the more likely they are to run to the apparatus because they have seen the difference that seconds make. I know that difference and I know what esprit de corps and public servitude are. Possibly you do not.
