Yongguk has always written songs with a deep social meaning. Many of BAP’s songs are considered anthems and if you like darker concepts, BAP are the best. The flower, the rose, is so preminent in the MV because Wake Me Up is the title track for their album, Rose.
Wake Me Up is my favorite B.A.P mv. The video deals with important topics such as depression, anxiety, panic, eating disorders, bipolarism (the guy with “the gun in the fingers”, you can see him smile as the light fades out and then darkness arrives). The video deals with the importance of being unique compared to a society that takes everyone equal with the same thought. We all have to find the light inside of us, with guys carry their torches for light up our ways.

BAP deserved so so so much better than they received. They were horribly mistreated and mishandled by their management/company. Going as far as to sue their company only to be fooled into a too good to be true deal to stay that ended up making an even bigger mess in the end. A lot of their songs were written by their leader Bang Yong Guk. He’s the one with the very deep rapping voice at the microphone. He was very vocal and open about his fight with depression. As were some of the other members like the maknae Zelo (the other rapper with the light colored hair). This song was released after a two year hiatus due to leader Yong Guks anxiety and depression. He wrote it during the hiatus, as a way to cope with his feelings. It’s a beautiful story, a literal cry for help. It still makes me cry every time I hear it because it’s so incredibly relatable to me. I wish so badly they’d have been given proper treatment so they could still actively be together today. But they went their separate ways and most now have solo careers while Daehyun, the main singer has pursued other dreams aside from music (I believe at least). We won’t mention Himchan. Either way. A group that deserves love even today, all these years later.

Yongguk was in hiatus during the entire Skydive and Noir promotion (six months between 2016 and 2017), and he came back for Wake Me Up promotion. They stopped their activities for almost one year for the lawsuit against TS (2014-2015) not for Yongguk mental problems.

I don't think it's Daehyun, maybe you were talking about Youngjae? He is the one who mostly play in drama
Daehyun was in military but do mostly solo songs or play in musical

The incredible thing is that despite all his problems you can see his love for music, he is still struggling. Even though the guys are no longer together, I still support their solo careers because of their great talent, especially Yongguk. While I wait for his comebacks I listen to his old albums, especially Noir. BAP can be dissolved perp even though it lives in our hearts. Give support to these guys. Yongguk has been returning to music, even producing the debut song of a new boyband.

Yes! Oh my, I never thought I'd see a reaction to B.A.P ever again. They were so underrated and people barely react to them. I am so happy, thank you. Along with BTS and Vixx, B.a.p were the first male K-pop group I fell in love with. Their dark concepts, relatable lyrics, talent. Yongguks voice and writing/producing skills, daehyun and Youngjae's voices, Jongup and Zelos dancing. They blew me away with their songs and mv's. One shot was and still is one of my most favourite songs in K-pop. I really hope you check out more by them sometime Daniel. Sorry for long comment, I'm just happy to see you rreact to them!

B.A.P will always be my ultimate group, currently I follow the 5 members separately. The leader, Yongguk has always been the composer of almost all of the group's songs and these songs have always had a social, current theme, he's always been very open about hating the system. Another song of theirs that you should check out is Young, wild & free or Skydive

I also think it's important to mention that Jongup, the blond vocalist, is currently participating in a survival program called Peak Time. He walked in and there wasn't a single person in the room who didn't immediately know who he was. A participating group auditioned with No Mercy by BAP. They were poised to have it all and their company ruined everything. Can you imagine working hard for years at chasing your dreams, and the people you trusted with your career and your finances intentionally destroyed everything you work for?

B.A.P, one of the groups that was treated the worst way possible by their agency. Payment issues, mistreatment, the members filled a lawsuit against the agency at some point, which was settled between them. TS Entertainment was one of the worst agency's, thankfully, it closed down officially in February 2021.

  • @mirellaalbert
    @mirellaalbert 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

Thank you for reacting to BAP. They had so many good songs and were known when they debuted because of more hip hop/ agressive/ dark themes or storytelling, that made them very popular abroad. In their first year they were almost more popular than EXO with foreigners, although SM invested tons more in promotion for EXO, so BAP were the underdogs. But very bad management and also some restrictions on what music to produce made them to go on a descending curbe, as EXO exploded a year after in 2013. In 2014 they went on hiatus because of the lawsuit against their company, and the emptiness was filled by BTS music, that had similar vibe at that era and were called for having the same vibe as BAP.
Unfortunately the hiatus affected a lot BAP as we have seen in their live content...their leader, Bang Yong Guk, that was also the main producer for their music, fought to keep them together, but the behind games of entertainment scene made them return to TS Entertainment to finish their contracts (they were almost taken as a group by another entertainment company, but TS overplayed them by making the other company abandon the idea).
After all this, the leader went through mental/emotional problems and that is when he wrote this song.
They had a lot of potential to be huge in the first league with the big names at that time as EXO, BTS of the past, although they lacked freedom, good management/ promotion and maybe same hunger/passion for all the members.
A similar dark song that was a flop for them was Badman...that was a era for cute, pinky songs and BAP were trying the dark concepts.
Also I recommend their iconic songs One Shot and Skydive MVs. Overall, they had potential for more, but at least they left us with a few good songs during their short career as a group.

I think you'll love their MVs, they had some of greatest plots in whole kpop. I can't even write more not to spoil, glad people below wrote so much already, because it's sad how even people deep into kpop hole still avoid looking into B.A.P., because they are not together anymore and "old history". They don't even know how much they miss out.
My favourite by them is probably 1004, but best MVs are One shot and Skydive.

I hope you see this comment, but I just wanted to say thank you. Thank you for giving this group a chance. I am unsure if the comments mentioned what I am about to inform you, but because this group deserves the world, I just want to share with you about them. BAP was the original "Dark Horse" of the KPOP wave. In my opinion, they are the prototype for what became BTS. BAP as a group came from a small agency and created something unique and different from what traditional kpop did. This was the first time in history a Kpop Boy Band chose to write their own lyrics and create meaningful music for the general public about real-life issues consistently. BAP was the group depicted to become the biggest group to transcend Kpop during their time however... due to TS Entertainment, their agency had them under slave contracts to the point of forcing sick members to perform as well as 3 comebacks within a year and a world tour. The boy band suffered, and unfortunately, they sued TS entertainment which shook the Korean wave as this was the boy band that everyone wanted to get behind. Due to the lawsuit, half of BAP's massive fandom was international from BAP's tours overseas in America... the fans decided to leave them and jump ship to other well-known boy groups.
BAP came back a year, and a few months later, unfortunately, they never amounted to what was expected because, at that point, fans would instead support newer generation idol groups. To me, this is the most significant group to come out of KPOP, and I am not saying this because I am their fan, but... based on what we know and understand regarding kpop the sheer talent that all 6 individuals possessed as one was unbeatable. The discography and lyricism are soooooo beyond their time that it's unfortunate that reactors do not react to them as much as they should. They challenged the music industry and championed "real-life" content. The leader Bang Yong Guk has the deepest voice in kpop and their main vocal (Daehyun) has one of the best male idol voices within the last 10 years. BAP has disbanded, and Himchan the visual of BAP is up for charges of sexual assault. I do not and will not shame the group for Himchans charges. I hope you dive into them because you will find how deep, dark and genuine this group really is. I know you will probably get reactions for One Shot and possibly Young Wild and Free, but if you really want a worthwhile reaction, I would push for Oneshot or Sky-dive (Similar video) and for sure 1004 (Angel). Angel is probably their greatest song for me due to the melody, lyrics and shocking video. Remember that these are older songs, so you might have to look up the lyrics afterward.
BTW this is my first time coming across your channel I will drop you a sub and support you.

Thanks so much for not just reacting to this but for caring about the meaning in the mv and in the lyrics! I miss B.A.P. so much! From debut to first hiatus they were so prolific with their output of new song after new song; they fed us well. Upon returning after their hiatus they understandably had a different feeling in their music and many casual fans had drifted away and gotten into other newer groups. Their final few releases tried to give us remaining fans reasons to hope. I still think they might reunite at some point in the future. They were a very close knit group who went through a lot together. Would love to see you do a deep dive into their song library.

Wake Me Up is related with V for Vendetta. 5th November and roses reminds us that movie. In the movie in the first scene they meet Evey, V says that he is a musician and that he will conduct an orchestra that night. He then goes up to the loft and conducts Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. This composition is known for playing with real cannonballs. In the movie, too, he already blows up certain landmarks, and then a videotape is shown on the TV. Thus, he invites everyone to the November 5 revolution for the first time. If we go back to the MV, this scene that everyone likes very much but finds it difficult to make sense of becomes meaningful at this point. The person in the video moves his hands as if conducting an orchestra and fire comes out of his hands. Then we see all those people with mental problems like depression, anxiety, eating disorder and beauty obsession being shot/layed on the floor. Simultaneously here, Zelo eho is one of members said, "All I can do is sing this song like crazy, it can wake anyone up." says. In other words, it symbolically invites all these people who complain about them to wake up with music and starts the "emotional revolution" for these people.
About the roses... In the movie, V leaves roses next to every person he kills. Of course there is a reason for this. But you have to watch the movie because a long story...When we look at the MV, we see that while people are struggling with their problems, just like the roses that V left next to the people he killed, the roses left on the ground are in the hands of the people after the emotional revolution and they are happy when they smell the roses. So as Valerie, who is impress to V on the movie, said, the world is changing, things are getting better and people are having roses. So...

Omg B.A.P. FUCKING BLESS! they were like the 2nd ever kpop group I stanned back in the day. If their company was ABSOLUTELY DOGSHIT, they could have been up there with EXO, because it was EXO, NUEST (my first stan group, RIP Nuest), & B.A.P. debuting around the same time.
Their debut "Warrior" blew my fucking MIND. They had very strong rock elements to their songs, but also could do any other genre they wanted with ease. Even their B-sides are amazing 😭💖🌸
Bang Yong Guk (deep voiced rapper) & Zelo (young rapper/lead dancer) still has rap careers, Jongup (singer/main dancer) has a solo singing career ("Us" is a laidback slap imo), Daehyun (heavenly vocals) released a few songs, Youngjae has been focusing on acting, and Himchan, uhhhhhhhhhhh..... severe legal issues, so 🙃

Theirs was the second high-profile lawsuit against a company for mismanagement, mistreatment and financial abuse in the history of kpop. They released 5 full albums, 10 eps, 31 music videos and 27 singles, but between their 2012 debut and their 2015 lawsuit, each member made only $16,000, and as a result of their terrible working conditions, Yongguk (leader, low voice rapper) took a hiatus for mental health, the first idol to ever openly do so. This song was their first release after his return from hiatus and is based heavily on his mental health experiences. As it stands, TS Entertainment no longer exists because all of the groups that were under their representation at the time also filed laqsuits and won, and TSE paid out so much money they buried themselves financially.

I miss BAP so much. They are one of the few groups with these kind of lyrics. You should react to Bang Young Guks song Hikkikomori, different level of dark and realness

So glad you reacted to B.A.P., they are/were such an underrated group. Hopefully you'll listen to more songs from them. By the way it is very interesting that you mentioned Stray Kids (I'm a STAY) because the first time I listen to B.A.P., I thought of Stray Kids. I thought, they have this underdog feel like Stray Kids, and that different vibe. Obviously, Stray Kids has a B.A.P. vibe, lol, since they're a much older band. But, yes, the depths of the lyrics, the way it does relate to life and mostly that crazy society, or how it is driving us crazy.
And there is Bang Yongguk, the leader. I actually discovered B.A.P by watching one of these stupid "comparison" videos; it was about who had the deepest voice in k-pop. Of course I was there, stupidly (given my age) waiting for Felix to "win", and in the comments someone mentioned the fact that "how can Yongguk not be in there?" so I went to check him out, or the band actually and indeed it is unbelievable that in all these type of vids he isn't in there. You only hear a little bit of him here, but I guarantee you that, as a STAY, and Felix-biased, Yongguk is IT. "My" Felix is king of deep voice, Yongguk is God, I guess. It's not a contest anyway, just wanted to point that out.
I hope you will check out other videos from them because they have amazing songs. Power, One Shot, Badman, 10004 (Angel), Young, Wild & Free...
    Thank you for the reaction

I'm so so happy you decided to react to B.A.P, they've been my ult group since they debuted, I can't say how attached to this group I am, so seeing one of my favorite reaction channel reacting to them makes me very glad! I hope you have time to check some of their other songs. Some of my personal favorites are Warrior, their debut song (which got them the nickname of Monster rookies), One Shot is a classic, Badman is captivating, Skydive is as much of a classic as One shot, Young wild and free is a very meaningful song for us fans (Baby) because it's the first song they released after the end of their lawsuit against their company, Honeymoon is just beautiful in every way possible. If you want a few fun songs they have Feel so good, Hurricane, Crash or Stop it.
I know you like when songs have deep and meaningful lyrics so I'd recommend you check Yongguk's songs like Hikikomori, I remember, Portrait and other songs like Yamazaki and Up!
Their B-side tracks are absolute masterpieces too so I'd love to see you react to more of them!

the group B.A.P. They were the first to show the reality of the world, to talk about the importance of mental health in their songs. They were the first but hardly anyone knows. They didn't get the credit they deserved. It's a shame since they started everything on the topic of self-love and society. PLEASE react to B.A.P SKYDIVE's song. please. sorry for my English. Greetings from Argentina and also thanks for the subtitles in Spanish.

The meaning of B.A.P song is so deep and they mv is so dark. I recommend you to react 'One Shot' and 'Skydive' those two mv have story about betrayed, murder and die. Thank you for your reaction.

B.A.P era un grupo muy talentoso, con un concepto muy único, tenía todo para ser uno de los mejores grupos de la industria , me atrevo a decir que hoy en día sigue siendo mejor que otros , es una lastima que su agencia no los supo manejar :(

They were huge back then but they were so unlucky because of their company. They couldn't even get their money from their label for years. That label is shutdown now but b.a.p's future already destroyed

If you like this dark concept you will most likely love B.A.P’s discography. Most (if not all) of their songs have deep meaning.
Their leader, Bang Yongguk, is their main composer & lyricist, he’s definitely a deep thinker.

I deep dive into B.A.P this year and they quickly became my 2nd favorite group. I hope you will react more to their songs. They got amazing title song, b-sides and solo songs. If you like dark concept with meaningful lyrics B.A.P is the right group. 4:44 am and Hikikomori from Bang Yong Guk (the leader) is good.

Please do more B.A.P! If this is any indication, you'd love them. Their music was all about social commentary; their leader Bang Yongguk is a prolific writer/producer, and he explores topics from social injustice and mental health, to social media. The mvs are full of symbolism and there's always a ton to unpack.
When B.A.P debuted in 2012 they actually were bigger than EXO (and I say this as a massive fan of both groups!)

little late but if noone said it, the people are supposed to represented mental illnesses (anorexia, depression, PTSD, suicidal thoughts.... etc) B.a.p used to be really innovating back then that's why I love them to this day. Its sad they disbanded but they still were really evolutional for Kpop before BTS
They have multiple song that covers topics that were taboo back then
