- Welcome to the channel Bad Asses. you've stumbled across whats slated to be a wild rise as i vlog my motorcycle hobby as it evolves into amatuer racing both on the track and on the mx track.
Today's video is just a review of my main squeeze, my 2010 z1000. The bike has 16,500 miles on it and has some minor mods including akra slip ons and a PC5. Something I forgot to mention is you never want to run the akra slip ons canned map. thats basically a full exhaust map, its way to rich and will slow you down. I learned this the hard way and after comparing the canned maps for the two brothers slip ons and stock exhaust, both should be similar to what I want for the akras btw, I found it was basically adding twice the fuel despite saying it had a target afr of 13.2. so thats something to watch for.
Any comments or suggestions put them down below, I look forward to bringing you builds in the future, repair vlogs and how to's. also riding videos on and off track and i look to evolve my career on bikes into amateur rode racing and back onto the mx track. Take it easy and ride safe, but don't forget to have a little fun now and then ya'll. peace
Any questions or suggestions? Put them down below, bois!
Hello buddy, thinking about buying one of these beauty's, but I'm only 5'5 would it practical? I love it so much .. found one for $6000, with 5800 miles on it.. please let me know..
@@jos-a-jmcp1504 it will be tough but doable, my friend. My most regular riding buddy is 5'7" and with the aftermarket seat he can tip toe or one foot it. With the stock seat hes solid on the ball of his feet almost flat. I think with a stock seat at 5'5 you will be on your tippy toes depending on how long your legs are. The bike has some width to it too. Id definitely try and find one at a used dealer that'll let me sit on it and pick it up off the kick stand before making any decisions.
@@jos-a-jmcp1504 but ill also say this, a bike i demoed last year, the z900, which has basically the same engine but a little smaller, but with a lighter weight, performs very similarly and the 1st couple years (kawi gets it right the first time, no worries) are already going for 5-7k dollars depending on where you find them. They were only 8500-9k new. Thats a crazy deal on whats almost a new bike, and best of all, they have a super low stand over height and they're a lot more narrow than the 1000 at the seat. I sat on one at the dealer and at 5'10 I can stand over the seat almost without touching it, both feet flat. And it doesn't feel like the 900 is lacking in anyway compared to the 1000. Super torquey, nimble, playful, and seriously good value when you factor in that superb kawi build quality. Whatever you end up on, enjoy the ride and be safe brother
Thank you so much for your input.. I'm going monday to check it out... guy said he can lower it if i wanted to aswell.. well see.. I'm super excited
Doesn't matter at all but ngl Moto Monk name sounds better than Monk moto. Sick ride
finally a review that lives up to it! I want to know if it's true what people say about the frame of this z1000 (3th gen), they say it is too fragile at the level of its neck, and while searching on the internet I saw many people sharing the same worries, all this left me very skeptical about the reliability of kawi . thank you in advance
The truth of the matter is any bike will develop frame problems after enough hard set downs from wheelies. I’ve seen gsxrs and fire blades crack the frame. The rougher you treat your stuff the shorter it’s life span. And a bike like this gets wheelied often. But the quality of the parts and machining is on par with Honda and despite the odd reg/rec issue they tend to be fairly long lived. The only major problem this bike has is the chocolate 4th gear, I’d make sure any z1000 or ninja 1000 not only shifted into 4th but took throttle with out slipping out. A lot of that came from people powershifting without the clutch, it’s got a more basic gearbox and doesn’t take it well. Kawi is on par with Honda and Yamaha, they all have their places where they excel but with kawi I think the metals are second to none
@@monkmoto1887 Thank you for the insightful response !!
I bought a Z1000 -08 at the beginning of the summer. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the best in Sweden this year but it doesn't matter because it's the best motorcycle I've ever owned. Can highly recommend this bike!
Question, is it me or is the pattern on the front tire facing the wrong way?
Awesome bike! I think around that time Kawasaki really stepped up their game to another level. I'd go back to 2010 over grabbing anything modern just the fact of performance to $$$ ratio. Idc if it's ugly.
I've having surgery later this month and I'm gonna hafta sell my bike 😭
Good review thanks
No problem! I have a couple of motovlogs coming out this week and a couple of garage vids too. Hope they’re something to inform or entertain you
amazing bike! im thinking about buying one too!
Nice man, its a really nice bike that not everyone else has. good luck on your selection, and no matter what you choose, enjoy the ride 😎🏍
When this hits 100 views i have 2 new reviews im releasing and plus a gl1000 Cafe build im working on ill drop the first video on
I have a question please! So I bought a z1000 2010 so when I'm turning the engine off and let's the key on accessory I hear sound like a fan on...but when I took look on the fan its not on..so I don't know if this sound is ok because this sound stops when I turn off the accessory!
Yeah man that’s completely normal
@@monkmoto1887 thank you so much I feel more better now😊
@@bekhaledkaissar8463 yes sir, mine makes the same noise. there are various electrical components that make a whirring noise that is completely normal, some even have little fans of their own like in your computer. Ride safe brother, enjoy the Z
Its wheelie a loot more easy then zx10r more grunty and fun🔥🔥✊
Where did you find the seat?
Sargentcycle.com, they still stock the third gen. Tbh the orange isn’t the most perfect match but standing back a few feet it looks good and you don’t have to have that colored. Good material though, it’ll form back nicely have had it for 3 years with minimal if any wear
@@monkmoto1887 Thank you so much.
Running a 2013 with Ivan tune def not getting great MPG put good fun! I agree with the down low pull compared to the CB1000R or FZ1 of the same times
Is the yamaha Fz1 better than this Kiwi z1000 ?
Is it still the best to own z1k ?im thinking to buy used 2012
For me it was the best based on a list of my preferences, broad useable torque from the bottom to the top. No rider aids cable throttle and there’s nothing on it I can’t fix or maintain myself. It’ll hang with anything on a back road. It’s a simple and pure distilled sport naked bike experience. If you’re into tech and gizmos though it might not be the bike for you. Also I’d recommend riding any used one before I bought it, these transmissions don’t like clutch less shifts, with or without an aftermarket quick shifter, and 4th gear is known to go out under hard use. That’d be my biggest concern with these.
@@monkmoto1887 thanks for the reply..I still in love with this bike as i also own yamaha r6 and aprillia rsv4 but this sbk not suitable for me. I need a something like sports touring with monster look..this z1k or z8 i had in my mind. Do you have any issue with the original engine and what about the valve?do you have any problem?
@@fibolover7422 I have about 23.000 miles or roughly 37,000 kilometers and the valves sound very quiet and seem perfectly in spec although I haven’t opened the head yet. Many people on the forum have opened the engine at 30,000 miles to find them completely in spec. These bikes are definitely of the sport touring the vein, everything’s built a little heavier to stand up to the miles on the road. The only major problem I’m aware these things have is that 4th gear issue if you’re hammering clutch less shifts on the track. For what you described I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this bike to you. Also the z800 isn’t half bad either.
Interesting facts for a considering buyer, did you know the 2010-2013 has better performance potential than the 2014+. It has a hotter intake cam that puts a solid 8 or 9 extra hp to the ground. It also has a better geometry with a slightly shorter front and taller rear. And lastly with no abs it’s lighter and easier to modify the brakes (which are more than adequate on the streets). With stock wheels and a full exhaust my bike was 456lbs on a pallet scale at work which is pretty good!
@@fibolover7422 other tips, the wheels from the ninja 1000 (z1000sx) fit with a spacer and are like 3 or 4 pounds lighter combined. If you buy one the rear will feel super super stiff stock. If you’re in the 150-200 range I wouldn’t mess with the preload too much but I’d pull the rebound damping out the shock, it’s cranked to the max stock, learned this from watching another z1000 owner do a track day with Dave moss. They also added a little front preload, which I also copied and seems to work great for me. Many people will tell you the spark plugs are impossible and all this. All you need is a short extension or two to stack together. The one under the frame isn’t easy but I can pull the tank and airbox off swap the plugs in under an hour.
Motul or Motorex best oil✊🔥castrol and belray not so god on gearbox etc
i had one for 8 years
looks awesome, amazing engine, good brakes
but i never liked the handling
not flickable, needs to be held down and force to go into curves nicely, i dont like that riding style
nice!!!!!!!
thsnk you sir !
Nice dog 🐕
Get rid of that exhaust and get the straight tip sound ways better
The header is literally on order on my brother, there goes my stimulus lol
@@monkmoto1887 my pop and sound insane just a simple straight tip no headers or cat delete. It’s pop and rumble every time I down shift or slow down
Just put a video reviewing the full header and tune for the bike up, at the very end is a clip you’ll like, brother
Beautiful Machine
thanks bro!
I remember my first bike.....
First 1000 and first modern bike. Have owned several dirtbikes from a kx125, kdx175, kx250, cr250. First streetbike was a vulcan 500, the one with the little ninja motor. Had a katana 750 for a little while and there was a summer I traded my old jetta to a friend in exchange for his f4i. We traded back at the end of summer. Best deal ever lol. Then I had a year where I didn't ride at all and bought this with 3k miles on it in Feb 2019, 1 year to the day I started my current job.
