    its wierd ive rolled with wrestlers who does jits and pure jits guys in no gi and the biggest difference ive found is that the guys with wrestling backgrounds MOVES YOU and the pure jits guys MOVES AROUND YOU.
    also a wrestler's explosiveness is on another level.

      Great comparison. One of professor always tells me to move myself instead trying to move them into position

    Perspective changer. When he says something along the lines of if you're training a ground martial art you want to get it to the ground quickly and efficiently, with wrestling.....

    • @jwicks100
      @jwicks100 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hung Nasty Are you implying wrestling is not good at getting people to the ground?

    • @nastygopher6776
      @nastygopher6776 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Lance Ballstrong No. I am implying that wrestling take-downs are the missing link to next level attack style submission driven jiu jitsu. I think it would be sick to watch a mma fighter who attacks submissions, just owns. palhares-espue but with wrestling slick....

    Great philosophy on the art of BJJ and applying it to the real world. Focusing on take downs to bring the fight to the ground where you are the most comfortable is the way to do it. Starting from the knees is useful in some cases, but take downs should stay very important for self defense AND competition purposes

      Greg Giraerts very true. Another thing I love about bjj is how open to interpretation it is. I'm a kickboxer who tried folk wrestling and got destroyed. Then when I found a bjj club, I had a higher appreciation for grappling. Guys have many different and unique styles.

    I agree 100%. Takedowns are a huge component of self defense. 'You better be able to find a way to get the fight to the ground', That is a great quote. If Tonon spends half the time training students to take someone to the ground, I am going to go start training at his BJJ school. I wish more instructors had his mindset.

      +Chuck Hayes Even that won't prevent it 100%. I'm currently dealing with it, I got a hematoma a week ago in competition, got it drained the next day by a doctor, and again two days later. It looks mostly fine but there's a definite loss of definition and it's noticeably thicker. Sometimes you do everything you can and you still get it.

    You can really tell the difference between submission grapplers who've done (amateur) wrestling before they've learned submissions. They're on a different level. Like our boy Tonon right here. He could basically be an old time professional wrestler (before it turned into this fake show wrestling we have today).

      +Mata Leao I'm sure AJ also took down Gary. They were showing Tonon's highlights of the training session. It would've been a bit odd if they had him talking and showed video of him getting fucking shrecked by people.

    • @303badassboxer

      Garry would serve AJ in a sub only match

    • @natedepigeone
      @natedepigeone 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      303badassboxer They already competed in one with no time limit, Garry won but it was a war that went quite a long time. Anyways they're mostly training partners nowadays.

    • @303badassboxer
      @303badassboxer 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're not "mostly training partners" these days. AJ is Gracie Barra and Garry is Team Renzo. In fact Gordon is trying to get a sub only match with AJ as we speak...

    • @natedepigeone
      @natedepigeone 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      303badassboxer That's interesting because on social media AJ often posts pictures of him training at Renzo's with Gary and I think Gordon as well.

      There is. At 3:55-4:00 he has what is called a 2 on 1 "Russian" tie up. It is an extremely common set up at the College and Olympic level for wrestling.

    • @xjoshsaucex

    • @52000rightwing

      At 3:56 his left hand is holding onto his opponents left wrist, and his right arm is jammed underneath his opponents left tricep. He then uses that setup to take his opponent down.
