      @@electro_yellow9295 Personally my professor sucks so I have to look up all the topics he tries to explain in class and teach myself. We don't even have a textbook, he teaches through handouts. So it's not that they aren't a good student, probably just a bad teacher. The fact that they are watching this video, trying to learn and understand it makes them a good student. 🙄

    I just want to mention that the bond angle for trigonal pyramidal molecules, starting from NH3, is 107*. As you go down and to the left on the periodic table, elements get larger, meaning PH3 is larger than NH3 and AsH3 is larger than both PH3 and NH3; AsH3>PH3>NH3. Because these are larger molecules, their shells are further apart, making the bonds longer and weaker. This subsequently reduces the bond angles as the molecule gets larger. Unfortunately, just gotta memorize the numbers, but realize that it is NOT 107*.
    NH3 = 107*
    PH3 = 93.5*
    AsH3 = 91.8*

However, when I search the structure on google as well as in molecule structure situations it is always with 2 double bonds. I imagine this means that Sulfur has an overfilled octet because that is possible for sulfur. Can you explain why you draw it like that, is there a reason why it all 3 atoms should follow the octet rule(in your drawing), or should Sulfur be overfilled?

    At 9:57 he said, "a trigonal planar has 3 lone pairs." Did he mean "atoms surrounding the central atom" rather than "lone pairs"? Im confused

    How does trigonal planer structure contain lone pairs? Aren't lone pairs not involved in bonding?

    Why isn't I3 bent?
    Edit: it's not bent because it's EGG is trigonal bipyramidal, and so the lone pairs will be as far apart as possible and the farthest angles are the 120° ones and so all the lone pairs will be on the "planer" part of the shape, leaving only the axial bonding pairs 90° from each lone pair so the molecular geometry is linear. Idk why he mentioned it with the other one who's egg was linear and not with the other trigonal bipyramidal

    AX/AXE/AXE2/AXE3/AXE4/AXE5/AXE6/etc...: Linear (no angle)
    AX2: Linear (180)
    AX3: Trigonal planar
    AX2E: Bent (120)
    AX4: Tetrahedral
    AX3E: Trigonal planar
    AX2E2: Bent (109.5)
    AX5: Trigonal bipyramidal
    AX4E: Seesaw
    AX3E2: T-Shaped
    AX2E3: Linear (180)
    AX6: Octahedral
    AX5E: Square pyramidal
    AX4E2: Square planar
    AX3E3: T-Shaped
    AX2E4: Linear (180)
    P.S.: Lone pairs take up more space than other electron domains, so bond angles will be smaller than the predicted amounts if there are lone pairs
