MOTORHOME TOUR - POMPEII - SORRENTO: Best place to Park Up!

- European Motorhome Tour days 27-29 takes us to Vico Equense where we explore Pompeii and Sorento. We stay at Camping S.Antonio which is ideally situated on the train line between Pompeii and Sorento. The steps from the campsite to the town are EXTREME but I think there is a bus service. The drive down to the campsite is ok, we made hard work of it by missing the turn in off the main road, don’t be intimated by the entrance to the campsite, it is fine, some of the campsite pitches are tight between the trees but the very friendly owner will come and help you. We were also able to book our boat trip along the Almafi Coast from reception. Definitely eat in the Campsite restaurant, its great food at a reasonable price.
On the second day we take the train to Sorrento, where we muse around the shops (not really our thing) and then hike off to Bagni Regina Giovanna, a beautiful oasis for swimming by the Roman Villa ruins.
Pompeii Tips:
1. When you buy your train ticket (not expensive) make sure you validate it in the machine on the station before travelling, if you don’t then you are effectively travelling without a ticket and will get fined.
2. Definitely use a guide, it makes a huge difference to your time there, it was fine in a big group because we had ear pieces, no need to pay for a private guide.
3. Take food and drink with you, there are water fountains which are apparently ok to drink from but we didn’t fancy it.
4. It can get really hot and there is no shade so choose the time of day you visit
5. Be aware some trains on this line are old and very busy
6. Allow plenty of time to explore on the day, there’s a lot to see
7. You can’t re-enter Pompeii once your in
8. If you are on a child ticket you will need Id

For a moment there eI thought I was on the Hstory Channel! I am so glad we went to Pompeii in the off season.
We thought we were just about in the off season going at the end of September, can't imagine what it's like when its really busy! Nice to be compared to the History Channel 😊 cheers...Andy&Michelle
I remember visiting with my Parents in 1974 as a hormone fuelled 14yr' old and not been allowed inside the brothel!!--lol.However i have been back to Pompeii twice since and it continues to be one of the most fascinating and atmospheric places i have visited on my various travels---Great to see it all on your video--thank you. Another trip beckons i think.
It sounds like it left an impression on you not being allowed in at 14, yes a very interesting place, we had no idea before visiting what an impression it would leave on us, cheers…Andy&Michelle
It’s Pompeii!!!!! Well that’s a campsite we won’t be visiting😬 chapeau Andy for negotiating it and also like the top gun reference 😊some bits we didn’t see when we there so that was really useful, I remember being struck by the tracks in the road and also how worn the steps were. Anyway great video as always and thanks for sharing and also thanks for your gesture to us on a sad day ❤️❤️

Great vlog again, we love the Almalfi Coast, when we did pompei the biggest queue was for the brothel,, nothing has changed in thousands of years 😂😂. Well done for driving the motorhome down there, it was bad enough driving a hire car 😂

We caught that costal train from Naples to Sorento after a 4 hour wait in Naples due to strikes. The train was heaving and we only got seats after my young son was sick into his hat. It was an experience!

Well, this is video is perfectly timed! We are booked to go to Napoli in two weeks time. Not camping this time, just have a week off, so flying and apartment rental for us. So excited, we were going to go last March, but by the time we got around to booking flights the prices had sky rocketed, so we went to Torino instead (which was lovely).
How much was the guided tour of Pompeii? Good to know about which entrance to take, so thanks.
Looking forward to your next video, as we are currently discussing how best to get up the volcano.
Also, my partner refused to look out of the window when we were driving in Italy. The first time we drove in Italy (I say we, but I do all the driving), she spent the entire time shouting "Look out!", "Lorry!", "Argh!", ""What are they doing!" etc. We have done it enough times now though that she knows that I know that the Italians are not to be trusted, and will do the thing you least expect them to do and I have factored that into my approach to the Autostrada. If in doubt, put your foot down and overtake them all until the madness is behind you. One of the advantages of camping with a fast estate instead of a campervan!
Hi Graeme, Pompeii was £35pp for the tour and entry costs, the tour is a must, we didn't take it around Herculaneum and regretted it. (don't go for the private tours, they are very expensive and the group tours are perfectly good) Our next video features the volcano, getting up is very straightforward , they do a coach shuttle from the train station, buy your ticket from the desk on the left just after you leave the station (expensive at €50 for 2 ) it takes you as far as you can go and then you walk the last steep bit. You get plenty time up there to see the volcano and have a drink. We found that the visibility was better later in the day, you obviously don't want to be there in the clouds 😀 hopefully the next video will be out before you travel 😀 Cheers...Andy&Michelle

@@stevenallen6606 Sorry...No drive to Positano Steve, we took the boat, I don't think Motorhomes are allowed. There were coaches there so the road can't be too bad, i guess they just don't want the congestion.

Finally got around to watching this! Pompeii looks amazing; I'll have to say, a bit too many "penis" references for my delicate ears, lol. I guess as it's a major tourist attraction, you'd expect the trains to be rammed. Very interesting, guided tour definitely looked worth doing. Just need to get to retirement, and we'll be off (well, and sell the house / buy a Motorhome etc)
