    My wife and I processed into our wedding Mass in 2001 to an instrumental setting of this. Then, when everyone was in place, we sang it as a congregational hymn. 22 years later, we sung it twice in three weeks at a funeral and then at the wedding of a niece who was 3 months old at our wedding. This music and the text have inspired so many tears in me.

      My daughter will be processing into this on her wedding day in September. I hope more brides will use this in the upcoming years. It starts out the ceremony praising God. What could be more perfect!

    I hope my people see this: I want this sung at my funeral. God willing, that's far in the distance, but if anything, this is the message I want to leave you all with. Bless God at all times and in all ways and He will bless you. Death is only temporary for those who remain faithful. Run well the race so as to win, as Paul tells Timothy, and you will join the angels in their hymns and adoration after this life and at the end of time.

    This is so glorious. Our God is so powerful and awesome that He is beyond all praising - yet we still sing to Him with love and thanksgiving. “And whether our tomorrows be filled with good or ills, we’ll triumph through our sorrows and rise to bless you still.”

    Love how this was the theme of Gustav Holst’s Jupiter.
    Composers really take others idea and make it into something new.

    • @TommyGuy1988
      @TommyGuy1988 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Holst actually put "I Vow to Thee My Country" together with his music and was grateful the lyrics match what he wrote for Jupiter.
      This is standard for hymns with matching meter lyrics, like "God Save the Queen" and "My Country 'Tis of Thee." But really, this is an excellent arrangement.

    Absolutely majestic, the beauty of God’s world put into music. I do say, Gustav Holst has earned a special place in heaven for this amazing piece of art.

    I vow to thee, my country, all earthly things above,
    Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love;
    The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test,
    That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best;
    The love that never falters, the love that pays the price,
    The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
    And there's another country, I've heard of long ago,
    Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know;
    We may not count her armies, we may not see her King;
    Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering;
    And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase,
    And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace.

      Finland, behold, thy daylight now is dawning,
      the threat of night has now been driven away.
      The skylark calls across the light of morning,
      the blue of heaven lets it have its way,
      and now the day the pow'rs of night is scorning:
      thy daylight dawns, O Finland that we own!
      Finland, arise, and raise towards the highest
      thy head now crowned with mighty memory.
      Finland, arise, for to the world thou criest
      that thou hast thrown off thy slavery,
      beneath oppression's yoke thou never liest.
      Thy morning's come, O Finland that we own!

    In the Catholic hymnals we have, there is usually only one part to sing, with the occasional addition of a descant. Very boring and hard for altos/basses. I love the Catholic Church, but miss the four part hymns of my youth.

      Hi Alex. I'm guessing but it(melody) is probably of Anglican origin. High Anglican and Roman Catholic share a very similar repertoire for service/mass. This is performed regularly at both Christian traditions as well as many more e.g.Misererei Dei Deus{RC) sung at both now.
