Back in the day, Pops Oasis was home to "Bonnie and Clyde Death Car" that you wanted to see a couple of weeks ago. I used to stop there to have a cold one on my way back from furniture deliveries out around Sandy Valley and Pahrump back in 1974 or so. Worked for American Furniture (long gone) on Charleston Blvd. The owners (Cliff and Rosemary Truesdale) owned a place next door to Wayne Newton's Casa De Shenandoah in Paradise Valley. In the summer they went north to Rapid City to escape the heat and we hung out with their daughter around the pool. Every once in a while, Newton would come up to the wall and invite his neighbors (us) to a party at his place. Most of the headliners in Vegas showed up when they were in town. It was pretty cool for a 25-year-old truck driver to rub elbows with people like Wayne Newton and Robert Goulet! In fact, I ran into Goulet in the bar outside the showroom at old Sands. I mentioned that my ex-mother-in-law was a huge fan, and it was her birthday. It was about 1 am, but he picked up the bar phone and called her. He spent about 5 minutes trying to convince her he really was Robert Goulet, but she hung up on him, so he had the photographer take a picture of the two of us and signed it, "It really was me! Bob Goulet! Unreal!!!

As a former truck driver, i use to like to lay over at the Nevada Landing. The truck parking was close to the entrances of the casino. I loved to eat at the counter in the coffee shop and one night i tried their minestrone soup and it brought treats to my eyes, It reminded me of my mom’s. I call back a few day later and asked to speak to the chief and told him about their memorial soup. I asked if there were any particular day of the week they made minestrone soup. I wanted to take some back home to my brother and sister. He said the soup changes daily depending on what they had left over. Only had that fantastic soup once, but I’ll always remember it

I'm Canadian and love the American southwest. I've stayed at the Gold Strike a couple of times! Some may consider it a dump but I found the rooms to be clean, it had a Denny's on site and it was a perfect place to crash after a lot of driving. Last time I was there was about 5 years ago and after fighting my way out of LA freeway jungle and about 6 hours on the road, I was so glad I didn't have to fight Vegas traffic and the Gold Strike was like an oasis! I hope they don't tear it down! Have some fond memories of Jean and the Gold Strike!

Back in the 90s, that whole place, Whiskey Pete's, Buffalo Bills, Primadonna, Gold Strike and Nevada Landing was the bomb! They offered a ton of free stuff, had an awesome roller coaster, fantastic prime rib and cheap rooms. The good ol days of Jean and Prim.

OMG, my lead co-worker, was the building manager for Nevada Landing, the last one, for 10 years. When it closed, he packed up family and church, and returned to his home in NE Wyoming. The man could do anything building or electrical. The man credited his skills to the pitiful condition of Nevada Landing and having to keep it operating.

Pop’s Oasis was located on the east side of interstate 15. It was a small casino that had a 3/4 size craps table. The casino/hotel Gold Strike used to have a small champagne brunch venue that was very nice. And there used to be a free shuttle between the Nevada Landing and the Gold Strike. Both these casinos had single-deck 21 that paid 3:2 on a blackjack.

My son and I were out there in 2019 just a few weeks before Covid hit for the Mint 400 and went through that old casino and they had a pretty big display of old desert race cars, trucks, and motorcycles in there! It was pretty cool! The Terribles have been part of a few off road videos as well. One of them they had a 750 motorcycle engine powering a blender with a slick form a go-kart on it.

Gold Strike and the Landing catered to charter busses out of LA. Pops Oasis was a family owned Smokey casino back in the day. I flew my glider out of Jean Airport in the 80's and 90's. There use to be a post office and a few residents. Now I think there is just the prison and plastic bucket factory.
Flew hang gliders off the ridge north of the dry lake and hot air balloons over the dry lake.

Back then in the 70's, 80's and early 90's there wasn't much between Primm and Las Vegas. I can remember getting gas in Las Vegas and it was never near the freeway or the strip. And it was, you guessed it Terrible Herbst! Much, much cheaper than anywhere previously mentioned. There are a number of Terrible Herbie's out in the Mojave, like Palmdale, CA, and a few others.

Visited the Jean airport Nov 2005 and saw there were sailplanes parked across the runway, used for slope soaring on the hills behind. Sad to say, no rides were given that day.

I worked at the Letica plastic factory, 3td shift, spent many mornings at Pops after work, if you bought the plastic mug you got 25 cent beer refills, at least I think I remember it that way lol

When I used to go to CES, I stayed at the goldstrike hotel and drove into the MGM to park and took the monorail to the convention center. This saved me a bundle of money.

Jean, NV looks like a nice little place for such a large population and a large truck stop. Those rocks moments look like marshmallow to me.

The Nevada landing looks so much like the old Colorado Belle Casino in Laughlin NV. Maybe they were both owned at one time by Circus Circus?

I used to drive an eighteen wheeler through that area on my way to Vegas and I routinly stopped in at Nevada Landing. It was great they had a really good restaurant there where alot of truckers would stop for breakfast or dinner and it was allways so good. I was really sad to see that place go. It looked just like a riverboat, it really stood out and was kinda sureal looking. I allways looked forward to stopping in there.

I'm sure that I am Not the first one to get a Kick out of you going into a Chevron Station, wearing a Mobil Cap. I found that funny. But that's my sense of humor. I love traveling with you, even if I am permanently stuck here in St. Louis, Mo.

Nevada landing is/was the only casino I ever won at. Maybe that's why it went out of business?
I drove a truck and passed by there several times a week. Walk in with $5 and leave with $100 fifteen minutes later.

Go to Jarbidge, NV. Your kind of place. "Jarbidge" morphed from the Shoshone word for Evil Spirits because it was believed that giants roamed there and ate braves. Be careful on the alleged "road" if you do. It will be a great story. If you don't go between June and September, you better go by dog sled. If you come from the north, recommended route, Rogerson UT and you see a sign "Pavement Ends" stand on the brakes or there may be a looooong drop to the Jarbidge River. Death Valley and the rest of NV are woosie compared to Jarbidge.

As a long time Vegas dweller who's definitely traveled back and forth to Southern California. Lots of exploring and off-roading in that area. That road side randomness has always been a hoot, and history fades away.

Yep, it’s caput for good. I just watched an abandoned video about this place, it’s all broken up and busted now and still full of furnishings. Of course I had to see if you made a video here and sure enough, here I am. You should do an update now.

For any runners who may read this, in January 2005 the last Las Vegas International Marathon was run, replaced by the current version. The Int’l Marathon started in Jean by the post office on LV Blvd. We were bussed there from Luxor (in school busses), and ran to Sunset Park by then-McCarran Airport. It was a fun run, though some found it boring. The current version is run in LV proper. Fun memories of standing around inside the casino awaiting the race start.
