- Beautiful model railroad layout at the Slim Gauge Guild.
The layout located in a 2000 square foot basement.
The HOn3 layout is based on the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad and the Rio Grande Southern with specific prototype scenes.
The Club is located at: 300 S. Raymond Ave. Pasadena, CA 91105

Spectacular scenery!
I had a brief association with the club in the early 80’s. Even back then the modeling was superb. They would acquire pictures of the area they wanted to model and try to recreate it to the smallest detail. At that time they had a very realistic and plausible albeit compressed model of the Georgetown Loop among other scenes. The projected layout at the time was very ambitious and never got fully realized. The club was in an upstairs floor in Pasadena and they were forced to dismantle the layout and move. After that I lost track of the club. So glad to see that they are still in existence and the modeling is as wonderful as ever.
I was a member of the Guild from 1995 until 2020 when I moved back to Texas. I really miss it, thanks for the memories. When I first joined I was working on the HO/HOn3 side, then I gradually moved over to the S/Sn3 side. Early on the Sn3 side needed a lot of plaster work, I think we must have used a ton of plaster on those mountains. Remember this building used to be the old China Factory where they made porcelain figures and they used a LOT of plaster, so we had a lot of bags left over.
Do you know if the club was dismantled? I went by the other day and I didn’t seem to be there?
@@Calispeedboi You mean you went down stairs, and through the first door and then the second door and into the train room, and you did not see the layout?
@@billbeverly2864 no there’s just nothing on the exterior of the building. Idk how you even get down there and the website isn’t any help either.
Love this much better than the city scapes with all the busyness.
I can’t get enough of the spectacular scenery as I continue to watch this video, awesome job. This is a video I could watch several times, thank you.
I hope that there will be day that all of this will be expanded on or tell a story of what everything that you see here will tell that story of the past. In an engineering view point of how everything was built. As I would love to help with this, because I know of many things of the past. Love this vid to no end.
It's a talent to recreate the railway depot of the past years so realistically!!! Thanks so much to the author for such painstaking work! Good luck creating the following videos!!!
Very beautiful layout. I love these mountains and trestle bridges. The painted backdrop gives more depth to the layout. Very good job 🤩
This is in my top 5 favorite layouts. And I've viewed thousands. And being very familiar with the Georgetown loop up here in Colorado, you guys nailed it! All I can say now about this layout is simply WOW! Thank you for sharing this.
I have never seen rocks as realistic as they are on this site! Wonderful!
I can't find enough words to express my appreciation for this gorgeous masterpiece !
I like that you take the time to show scenery and structures along the way. Some just follow trains and skip the surrounding area.
Thank you very much!
This is unbelievably awesome and absolutely jaw-dropping scenery!! WOW!!!!! :-)
Amazing layout in every respect! Excellent video, as well! Thank you for transporting us back to RG and RGS glory days! ❤
Great video. I love how your show all the beautiful work these folks do. Not just pass it by following the train. On other channels I'm so often, "Wait. What! Go back I want to see that!" Nice job
Thank you very much!
Awesome layout! Fantastic scenery! Impressive bridges! Weathered rolling stock and running at scale speed. Perfection!!!
Attention to detail is amazing!
That's exceptional. Thanks for bringing this to us! I really appreciate this.
Wow what a beautiful layout. Right to my taste in Rio Grande narrow gauge. Amazing!
Amazing layout in every respect! Excellent video. Thanks Toni
Thé rocks ,thé river are realistics! Super! It's a pleasure

🙂🙂🙂😁😁😁👍👍👍❤❤❤
very nice layout ,,need some shading and contrasting on the mountains they look like piles of clay ,,dark with lighter highlights
Very enjoyable video with a great looking detailed layout.
I found it especially interesting as I am modeling a mountain Colorado type road with wide vertical separation of tracks and I enjoy scratch building bridges in HO scale. I believe I have almost 30 bridges scatch-built at this point. Besides loving mountain type scenery, my big inspiration was John Allen.Thanks.

amazing detail, great job
Schönes Wideo!!!👍👍👍
Beautiful layout. I can bet there was and still is many, many hours invested but well worth it.
Superb modeling! 😊
Great layout. I sense a touch of G & D in some of those shots.
What a layout! Colorado is gorgeous
Excellent layout, but the sound of locos is better than the „music“!
Beautiful job!
I love mountain RR layouts, and this has got to be one of the best. The detail is great; excellent rocks, awesome water and surprises like the little suspension bridge under that spindly trestle bridge. Where can I see a track plan?
Thanks for sharing 😂❤😅😊!
Wow ! Love your layout!!
Lots of Blackstone mudhens.
Wow, awesome layout.
:))
Definitely amazing 👍
A job well done to this club! Also a fantastic job on the editing of this video, and personally, I like the "off set" shots as I'm currently building my own layout and seeing how others tie their layouts in with the ceiling, fascia, and lighting, those close up shots are a big help! Keep up with the amazing work, you have a new subscriber today!
Thank you so much!!!
So so nice! Looking forward for more 🚂
Thank you! more is coming!!!
@14:46 that bridge looks like it is so spindly it's going to collapse.
I've never heard someone refer to narrow gauge as "slim", or is there a difference between the two? Good layout
Very cool 👍🤠👍
Thanks!!!
Very nice modeling, mostly stable camera/smooth moves & reasonably good depth of field. Only distraction from realism is shooting "off set" (ceiling/lights/people/fascia at edges of frame). This is not like analog days when you had to allow about 10% on each margin for Overscan. Just tighten the shots a little bit for more realism...
A great job that the smoke generator deserves.
Great video. Loved the background music. 👍
Thanks!!!
Where is this located? Private or club? Is there a website? Great video
