The Rand Club in Johannesburg, founded in 1887, is one of the city’s oldest and most iconic institutions. Originally established as a gentlemen’s club during the gold rush era, it has a rich history intertwined with the development of Johannesburg itself.
In recent years, the Rand Club has undergone significant revitalization efforts to restore its former glory and adapt to modern times. This transformation included opening its doors to a more diverse membership, hosting various cultural and social events, and offering spaces for conferences, weddings, and other gatherings. The club’s stunning Edwardian neo-baroque architecture, designed by William Leck and Frank Emley, has been meticulously preserved, maintaining its historical charm while incorporating contemporary amenities.
These efforts have successfully breathed new life into the Rand Club, making it a vibrant hub for both historical appreciation and modern social activities in Johannesburg.

I think he was responding from a historic perspective, BLACK was a term used as a race classification, in fact the term is still used on official state documents.
Nothing much should be read from the use of the term.
      Thank you for watching... ðŸ‡ŋðŸ‡Ķ
