Robert Plant aka the Golden god is the singer. And Jimmy Page is an actual guitar GOAT. I know that term gets used loosely nowadays but he is considered one of the greats.

Obviously, the main focus of many people is Robert’s vocals and Jimmy’s guitar licks, but you cannot overlook the unbelievably talented John Paul Jones on bass and keyboards. Then last but certainly not least, the late great John Bonham (Bonzo) keeping the time with masterful skill on the drums. The greatest rock band in history.
    ♥️✌🏼😎

This video is not Led Zeppelin , its only Page & Plant from Unledded in 1993 after Bonham had passed. John Paul Jones didn't join them for this tour cause they knew the fans would be deeming it a Led Zep reunion. The bass player & drummer were from Plants solo band - Charlie Jones on bass , Michael Lee on drums. I was too young to see Zep in their hey day (8yrs old in '73) but i did see both of the Page & Plant tours as it was the closest to Zep as i was going to get to see.

Studio first, then the live version from the soundtrack from The Song Remains the Same concert movie, will show the best versions of this song. If you just do MSG 1973 you could end up with an alternate version, the one they picked for the movie is the best live version.

  • @garystover7129

The technique you referred to, of the singer singing and the guitarist playing back in response is an old blues tradition known as "call back." It's been used since maybe the 1920's and solo artists would often use this also.
It was rough playing in some of these joints. Beer bottles being thrown onstage was a common practice, so common that these places began stringing chicken coop wiring to protect their musicians.
And this practice wasn't limited to the Mississippi Delta bluesmen. Country and Western swing bands like Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys performing in, say, Fort Worth or Lubbock, experienced this as well.
One man you could do a comparison with LZ is Huddie Ledbetter, much better known simply as Lead Belly. His music would be lost if it weren't for John and Alan Lomax, especially Alan. They were referred to as ethnomusicologists and recorded many artists in the Mississippi Delta and Appalachia. Alan went on to record musicians all over the world. Everything John and Alan Lomax recorded is now permanently registered in the Library of Congress. They began their careers working with UT at Austin.
OK, enough of the history lesson. The song I'm going to mention is referred to as Traditional. It's been around forever but no one knows who wrote it. This one is English in origin. Lead Belly's was the first recorded version. He called it " Gallis Pole" and on Led Zepplin III they also recorded it as "Gallows Pole."
LeadBelly and his 12 string Stella guitar sound pretty good, even against the arsenal of instruments, amps, and special effects Led Zepplin has.

Jimmy Page guitar, Robert Plant vocals and harmonica, John Bonham drums, John Paul Jones bass and organ.

Watching Britt thirst over Robert, is something I didn't know I needed!

Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were into the occult and black magic in the 1970's. Jimmy owned Alistair Crowley's estate ( Ozzy did a song about Alister called "Mr. Crowley") in England. He was the big occult leader in the 1800's in England. The cover of Led Zeppelin 4 shows Robert's two children. in 1980 the original drummer John Bonham died at the age of 36. Then soon after Robert's 5 year old son died. They believed the two deaths happened because they were playing around with the occult. They promised not to put Led Zeppelin back together again because of this. Fast forward to this band called Page and Plant in the late 1990's. The drummer on this video had the exact same style as Bonham so they hired him. At the end of this tour, he died at the age of 36

Yes that is scatting and that is Robert. Jimmy is the guitar. Also they go together like PB&J so fairly interchangeable. 😂

If you like that violin played like that you should check out Tina Gau with Joe Bonomassa " woke up dreaming". Epic chello.

That fantastic curly hair belongs to Robert Plant and on the guitar is the inimitable Jimmy Page.

Yes the '73 MSG version is great, but the 8+ minute YT vid is much longer than what Britt wants. NOT her fault for those making negative comments! I like this version too as it has a rockin' violin section, and Robert and Jimmy show that they're still GOATs! 💥

Robert Plant is lead singer and Jimmy Paige is one of the best guitarists of all times. This is them middle aged. The 1975 concert version is the best of this song!

Jimmy Page is a Guitar God, Robert Plante a vocalist Master. They were the main part of Led Zeppelin.

This is Robert Plant on vocals and Jimmy Page on guitar from the Led Zeppelin songs you've reacted to: Stairway to Heaven, Whole Lotta Love, When The Levee Breaks, and Kashmir. Robert's hair was even better back in the 60's-70's in Led Zep. I think this was about 1993. His hair wasn't quite as nice in 2012 when Heart did Stairway To Heaven in front of Barack and Michelle.
