Nowadays if you go along the murraygate everynight around 430pm its like a ghost town go back 20 years ago the murrygate was jumping with people right up to 6pm its obvious the narrator is not from dundee going by his accent
@@barrypotterdundee684 well, the narrator IS originally from Dundee. I left in the 70s for Canada. I know how Dundee has changed as I had family in the city until the early 2000s and had been back a number of times over the years.
@@scottchristie6734 you're right about that. Have been to both many times. Actually got stopped from shooting video at Union Square right after Christmas and don't go there very often now.
@@SomeKidFromBritain I've spent a reasonable amount of time in Dundee over the years and agree with the pedestrian areas, but I was also looking at how well the area from the Wellgate and Overgate to the Tay has been designed. Comparing it to Aberdeen shows how well it has been repurposed and that City Square feels better used

I'm as guilty as the next Aberdonian for slating Dundee in the past, it wasn't the nicest place to visit but the money spent has obviously helped! My heart sank when you said Aberdeen was so quiet... I've stayed down near Glasgow for 19 years now, it's been so sad when visiting back to Aberdeen to see the decline in Union St, shops all shutting and the lack of crowds. Maybe making it pedestrianised hasn't helped but the pavements used to be mobbed with folk. It now looks very dull and grey 😢
It's simple geography. Aberdeen is way further north than Dundee, and much longer to get to from the central belt where the majority of people visit and live. Aberdeen is a city in the middle of nowhere so less people go to or stay there.
@@jonathancampbell5231 I do know that. The comparison was for other reasons, including showing a council that does more and more community involvement despite a smaller population. Also, I'm originally from Dundee.

A big difference to Aberdeen , there are very few shops on Union St. Dundee seemed to have more outside the shopping centres.
Dundee does have some of the empty shop problems as well, but nothing like what is obvious on Union St.

Both cities used to be massively busier. Dundee as quiet as a grave nowadays

Because its car free and a good way to walk between one side of town and the other.

People visiting the city center out of habit..reminisce of the old days...just walk?
