Just crank the tech budget to 100%, you won't have to use the tech prioritization much. Use the prioritization sparingly and spend on tech you want/need.

Starting in 1890 can be easy! You dont fuck with anyone, dont build a single ship and rush the dreadnought hull. You get it at around 1895 If you prioritize it. And are able to produce a proper dreadnought in 1898 get them up to at least 8 ships and begin building the escorts. Then go and let the others know what hapens if they fuck around.
The best result so far is a detachments of 8 dreadnoughts sinking 112 ships of which 10 where battleships neting me joust over 76'000 victory points (enemy 950), killing joust over 24'000 sailors (550 lost on my side) with only 2 ships sustaining medium damaged and not a single ship lost on my side. I sunk around 80% of the enemys ships in 1 battle with 8 ships.

You absolute hero, cheers for this. The game is in dire need of a tutorial for the campaign .

  •  ปีที่แล้ว +22

Another tip for begginers is that if they start a campaign and they select "create your own fleet", make sure you first design your fleet then you build it before you hit "Next turn" otherwise you will have to wait months before you finish your ship. If you do it before your first Next turn they take 0 months for completion.
This tutorial came right in time for me, I played campaign only once in the past but now I see they brought new stuff. What pisses me off is that I came back to the game and found it in a more buggy state than it was when I left it. For instance, many times I design a ship and have to delete it getting some empty barbette error or "cannot place secondary tower in front of main tower" nonsense, I abused the bug report button hahaha.

When v1.0 released and they introduced task force scale battles the game was basically unplayable for me. Ships would lose their A.I. and drive in circles or just fuck off in some random direction halfway through the battle. Thankfully they fixed this. Formations are still iffy to control and I had a bug 8 years into my 1910 U.S. campaign where I had an infinite load next turn but overall it is in a pretty playable place.

I usually use the research priorities to sharpshoot techs that are nearly done. Once they show an eta in months and what the tech is, if I care about it I'll slap a priority on it so that it will hurry up and complete sooner. Other than that you definitely want to leave them off so that everything progresses.

This is a very good Video.
I do want to add some comments and questions.
NEW CAMPAIGN -- SELECT A NATION
It would be nice if the Player was to be able to look at the World Map, during the Selection Process, to see what the National Territory looks like; and, what other Nations are nearby.
NEW CAMPAIGN -- AI OPPONENT: HISTORICAL / RANDOM
The Random Option also results in Technology Development not following Real Life Historical Development.
Example: A Real Life 1940 Technology may be developed during In-Game 1890; while, the Real Life 1890 Perquisite Technology for the Real Life 1940 Technology is developed during In-Game 1940.
NEW CAMPAIGN -- FLEET: AUTO-GENERATED / CREATE OWN
The Auto-Generate Option have the Game System randomly generate a Player-Controlled Warship Design for each Player-Controlled Warship Type.
The Game System generally produces poorly designed Warships for the Player and for the AI Controlled Opponent Fleets.
The Create Own Option is recommended for Players who are familiar with the ULTIMATE ADMIRAL: DREADNOUGHTS Warship Design Game System; and/or, for someone who is familiar with Real Life Warship Design Theory.
I recommend doing the NAVAL ACADEMY SCENARIOS before attempting to Create Own Warships for the CAMPAIGN SCENARIOS.
The Third Option requires the Player to Start The Campaign with the Create Own Fleet Option selected.
With The Third Option, when The Campaign Starts, the Player has the Game System Auto-Generate each Warship Type; then, the Player modifies each Randomly Generated Warship to one's own satisfaction.
"BrotherMunro" does go into detail how The Third Option is performed by the Player.
During the Warship Type Design Phase, you need to pay attention to the Warship Construction Costs.
Battleships are The Biggest & Baddest Warship Designs within your Fleet; thus, they will be the Most Expensive Warship Type within your Fleet.
Unless Torpedo Boat Types are available, the Destroyer will be your Smallest & Cheapest Warship Type within your Fleet; and, the Destroyer will be your Primary Torpedo Platform.
With Mine Warfare being A Thing, you should have a Destroyer Design that is dedicated to Mine Seeping and Mine Laying.
With Submarines being A Thing, you should have a Destroyer Design that is dedicated to Anti-Submarine Warfare.
    07:15 - 11:52
ALTERNATE SHIP MODIFICATION FOR PRESENTING THE THIRD OPTION CONCEPT
I do like the 19.3-Inch Gun Concept; but, the Barbettes are too small for the 19.3-Inch Turrets.
However, I dislike Odd-Inch Measurements like 19.3-Inch Guns; thus, I would Re-Size the 19.3-Inch Guns to 19-Inch Guns; and, I would replace the Too Small Barbettes with Size-Appropriate Barbettes for the 19-Inch Turrets.
Concerning the Deck-Mounted 8.5-Inch Triple Turrets that are blocking the X-Turret Field Of Fire, I would move the 8.5-Inch Triple Turrets towards the Bow, snuggling the 8.5-Inch Triple Turrets between the Y-Turret and the Aft Superstructure.
This will require Repositioning the Smaller Secondary Deck-Mounted Turrets withing the Aft-Midship Deck Area.
    I would Re-Size the 8.5-Inch Guns to 8-Inch Guns. I may not replace the 8.5-Inch Twin-Turrets with Triple-Turrets.
Depending upon the Gun Size of the Smaller Secondary Guns, I may Re-Size all of the Smaller Secondary Guns.
I would Reposition all of the Small Secondary Gun Turrets.
I may, or may not, change the Small Secondary Turret Types (Twin-Turrets : Triple-Turrets).
    13:11
¿What is the difference between a "True Battlecruiser" and a "Cruiser Killer"?
As far as I am concerned, categorizing a Battlecruiser-Type Warship Design with various different Ship Classification Terminologies is purely Semantics.
    13:18
The Game System does create various different Warship Design Concepts before presenting the Player with a Competed Warship Design.
The Game System should just create one Warship Design Concept for presenting to the Player.
If the Player rejects the Presented Warship Design; then, the Game System would randomly select another Warship Design Concept from a variety Warship Design Concepts; then, present a Randomly Generated Warship Design from the Randomly Selected Warship Design Concept.
    CREATE FLEET -- FLEET COMPOSITION
I recommend that each National Port should have at least 1 Destroyer present for "In Being" Status to serve as Port Defense.
For Austria-Hungary, I recommend 1 Battleship Per Port.
For other Nations, 1 Battleship Per Port may not be financially feasible; because, you will want other Warship Types in your Fleet.
BBs and BCs are Power Projection Warships.
BBs are The Kings Of The Seas.
BCs aren't competitive against Battleships; but, are major threats to every other Warship Type.
CAs tend to be the Big Hitters of your Fleet outside of BBs and BCs.
CLs tend to be used as Fleet Scouts and as Merchant Raiders.
DDs tend to be used as Torpedo Boats and/or as Anti-Submarine Warfare Warships and/or as Mine Warfare Warships.
TBs are Torpedo Boats Proper; but, aren't available for most Campaign Scenario Years. TBs tend to be Coastal Defense Warships.

I feel like Assigning rearch priority should really only increase the research times of the other treees in its given branch. So prioritizing big guns should only slow the other techs in the naval gunnery row.
It just represents that you have multiple, independent R&D departments in your government better, and makes focusing less crippling and more strategic. Still keep the 3 priorities limit though.

  • @MrMichaelBCurtis
    @MrMichaelBCurtis ปีที่แล้ว +1

you need to max shipyard all the time, and research and transports. Shipyard doesn't just increase the size of the ships, it increases the capacity of ALL your shipyards, so they can hold more fleets AND it increases your shipbuilding. So if you need to build a lot of ships at once you can. Research needs to be max, if you fall behind in tech you will lose. and transports increases your naval spending and research every month.

    • @BrotherMunro
      @BrotherMunro  ปีที่แล้ว +3

Maxing all the sliders at once is ideal but not always possible! If you have to prioritise then I’d say transport cap first as it grows your eco, shipyards so you have ‘enough’, tech, crew training.

    • @MrMichaelBCurtis
      @MrMichaelBCurtis ปีที่แล้ว

@@BrotherMunro I usually don't max training. until my economy is strong enough from the transport increases. I have not found a scenario yet where that wasn't enough, but i usually play 1890. I usually have my training down around 25 percent. I build a lot of battleships and Heavy cruisers to start, then DD when mines come in, I only build light cruisers for mine laying., But I have not got to late game yet. I have never been able to build enough ships to use all my crew in my reserves. When you get to very advanced in research and you have 7+ max task forces the game stops fighting you. you get no battles that matter. You just start invading everywhere

I have a question regarding naval funds. At the start of the game, building your own designed ships cost you naval funds, but after the game starts, building new ships no longer deducts from your naval funds pool, but only costs maintenance during its build duration and then its operating costs after finished, is this supposed to be normal? Seems weird that my naval funds keep building up and the cost number when designing the ship doesn't have much significance. I am using the balance mod

    • @BrotherMunro
      @BrotherMunro  ปีที่แล้ว

That’s normal yes, the funds at the start are your initial build budget, try to spend nearly all of it! Later on the naval funds are used as a bit of a cushion, you can dip negative in income and build some ships out of your capital spending. Some events will also give you the option to swap naval funds for prestige, GDP, relations etc

¿Are the Build Shipyard Slider Numbers universal between all Nations?
¿Are the Build Shipyard Slider Numbers universal from 1890 thru 1950 for a given Nation?
Because you were Spazzing Out on the Build Shipyard Slider, I had a very difficult time seeing the various Setting Numbers that the Slider did have.

Since Posting the Original Comment, I have been watching "newer" UA:D TH-camrs; and, I can see where the Minimum Shipyard Construction Time (6 Months to 9 Months) may be more desirous than the 1-Year Shipyard Construction Time.
There is an 1890s Nation that is just shy of having the Displacement Capacity for constructing a Battleship at The Start Of The Campaign -- somewhere between 1,000 Tons and 2,000 Tons.
By Building A Shipyard at the Minimum Time Required (6 Months to 9 Months), that Player Nation will be able to Construct A Minimum-Sized Battleship.
The reason I prefer the 1-Year Construction Time is due to Governmental Finances; and, Technological Research Development.

As of right now, the global campaign is quite bad. The game runs fine for the first 2 hours of the campaign, but once every nation has a fleet of 100+ ships and they're all at war with each other the game often takes 2 minutes or more to load each turn. On top of that, you can't declare war on your own and you're often forced to wait like 2 years in-game until some combat happens.

    • @hombreg1

    PLAYER-CONTROLLED CAMPAIGN FLEET GENERATION
The Battleship is The Pride Of The Nation; and, is looked at as being The Master Of The Seven Seas.
However, the success of Naval Power on The High Seas rests on Non-Battleship Designs.
Also, with Ports being captured due to Naval Battles; and, Ports being Mined by Enemy Naval Forces, the First Warship Design/s should be focused on Port Defense; and, Battleships should be the Last Warships designed; assuming, that your Fleet won't have Battlecruisers.
Submarines are now a Thing; and, Anti-Submarine Warship Designs should also be considered.
If you are into using Submarines for Naval Warfare; then, they need to be taken into consideration too; although, Start Of Game Fleet Generation may not include Submarines as Warship Designs.
Battlecruisers, being a Cross-Breed of Battleships and Cruisers, should be designed after you have designd Battleships and Cruisers.
Of course, if you have made AFK Plans concerning your Initial Fleet Conception; then, whatever order you do things In-Game may not really matter.
-- I do a lot of AFK Theorizing and Note Taking; and, I do Gameplay Note Taking for AFK Studies. (¿Anybody from NAVY FIELD 1 remember me?)
Early Game Port Defense isn't an issue; so, a Player could forego Purchasing Port Defense Warship Designs during The Fleet Generation Phase.
Each Nation has its advantages, and disadvantages, due to Port Locations Within One's Territory and Number Of Ports and Neighboring Nation Locations and Real Life Historical Relationships Between Nations (if Historical Settings are being played with).
How you envision Naval Fleet Management may be better suited for one Nation than for another Nation.
Britain is The Easiest; and, not just because of its Financial Power; but, because The British Isles blockades Naval Movement in The North Sea and in The English Channel.
Germany with its Superior Technology can't overcome its Geographical Handicap when at war against both Great Britain and France.
Then again, in Real Life, Germany was under Treaty Limitations that prevented Germany from acquiring the Warship Designs and the Fleet Sizes that were needed to overcome its Geographical Handicap.
Also, Real Life Treaty Limitations prevented Submarines Of All Nations from being utilized to their full potential as Warships.

To invade somewhere you need 100,000 tons in the correct sea region. Then go to the politics screen and select naval invasion & pick a province. The following month a mission will generate, move as much tonnage as needed into the circle around the mission to get the chance to 100% (or as high as you can get it)

1890 start hard? Nah, just get destroyer I, induced boilers, 3ex engines and 3 km torps. Put some Mk2 4,8" guns on it... 4 should be able. One double torp launcher (Tech luck is needed). And in 1893-94 you will have destroyers that can take on anything. Oh, put them on 35knts. I mean anything... just bum rush em. The guns are good at close range and the torps are deadly. Sure you lose some DD's... If you can kill a complete enemy's country fleet for a cost of 10 DD's that is a bargain.

My issue with playing as Japan (especially) is that, in reality, Japan has very few domestic sources of the things that are needed to build large ships--coal, iron, alloy-metals, rubber etc.
If the player follows a defensive/passive strategy, it really should not be possible for them to build a world-class, globe-spanning navy. Japan simply doesn't have the resources to do this, and can only attempt it by conquering regions that have the resources it wants.
But in UAD, the only limit to what can be built is "money," and even that is not-much linked to "empire size," as it's entirely possible to have high / growing GDP without expanding geographically.
It'd be like saying that, because California's economy is huge, California could build its own navy.

    • @Trigm
      @Trigm 2 ปีที่แล้ว

But that's how it works, at least in peace.
If you have the money, and you haven't royally pissed someone off, you can trade for those resources you need. It is only once you are at war with your resource supplier that you have to worry.
It is important to note that Japan never needed to expand until the 1940s, and still managed a verry much world-class navy before that point. It was only once the US stopped selling them oil due to the war in China that expansion was needed.

    • @dougjb7848

      @@Trigm
That is true, but there is a very real difference in how nations that have deep domestic reserves view and interact with the world /vs/ those that don’t.
If a nation without its own reserves builds an enormous navy, shouldn’t its ongoing cost increase more than a nation that has them, because the nation without must purchase from foreign suppliers, at whatever cost the market bears, transport them etc.?
It just feels like UAD tries to model whole-world power politics while hand-waving elements that have a critical effect on whole-world power politics.

    AI AUTOMATIC WARSHIP DESIGN FEATURE
    ¿What is the AI doing?
I find it infuriating that the AI constructs a Complete Warship Design then Scraps The Warship Design a half dozen times; before, presenting a Warship Design for the Player to use; regardless, of Warship Type and In-Game Date.
I don't mind the process for when the AI is constructing AI-Controlled Opponent Warships.
The AI needs to have a Warship Design that is optimized for Opposition To The Player-Controlled Warship Designs.
What I think is happening is that the Game System has several Warship Design Models, for each Warship Type; and, the AI actually Randomly Constructs a Warship based on Each Model of a Given Warship Type; then, the AI decides on a Final Warship Design of that Warship Type.
I have no problem with this for the AI generating AI-Controlled Warships that are to be in opposition to the Player-Controlled Warships.
However, for the Player who wants to do Quick Battle; and, to forego Scratch-Designing A Warship, the process takes too long; especially when, the Player is going to have Multiple Warship Types & Warship Classes to play with.
Warship Classes are A Thing now; because, Minelayers and Minesweepers and Depth Charges/Hedge Hogs are now possible; and, it is best to optimize a Warship Type as either a Minesweeper and/or a Minelayer or as a Submarine Hunter; along with, the preexisting Class Concepts of "Torpedo Boat" and/or Gun Boat.
    -- "Torpedo Boat" Battleship
    -- "Torpedo Boat" Battlecruiser
    -- "Torpedo Boat" Armored/Heavy Cruiser
    -- "Torpedo Boat" Unarmored/Protected/Light Cruiser
    -- "Torpedo Boat" Destroyer
-- Torpedo Boat (which isn't available in all Time Periods)
I believe that for when the AI is Designing A Player-Controlled Warship, the AI should present the Player with all of its Variant Designs; so that, the Player can choose one of them; or, none of them.
If the Player likes none of the AI-Generated Warship Designs; then, the Player has the AI construct a New Set Of Warship Designs.
The Player could still tweek the AI-Generated Warship Design.
-- ooo ... This "Monster Gun" Battleship looks promising; but, I rather have it configured in this way.

    • @BrotherMunro
      @BrotherMunro  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Capturing territory is done in three ways:
      Naval invasion
      Land invasion
      Peace deals
All three of which are to greater or lesser extent RNG based. Similarly the way missions are generated is very RNG, you can’t go far wrong with letting the game distribute your ships around, leaving them all in port and set to sea control (in wartime)

@@bl-ni1iu as for taking territory the best way is to assemble a fleet of at least 100,000 tons (ideally more than this) that is mostly battleships and park them outside the port of the province you want to invade. Go to the politics screen, select the major power that owns that province (you must be at war) and choose ‘Naval Invasion’ then pick the province. Next turn you’ll see a mission marker with a circle around it, make sure your fleet is inside the circle. A tooltip will show you the chance the invasion will work, it’s a bit wonky though. Bring triple the ships you think you’ll need.

One thing I seem to have an issue with in campaigns is that no one likes me 😂
I'm currently playing as Japan and Austro-Hungary loves me as does Russia but everyone else hates me and I'm at war with like 5 countries
Another thing is that there was a HUGE British Fleet off the coast of Africa. 27 battleships, 2 battlecrusiers, 7 heavy cruisers and like 15 lights. Against 2 of my light cruisers. Needless to say that did not end well 😅

Ok so first off you need a fleet with at least 100,000 tons of displacement, but you’ll want more (see later) in the sea region of the province you want to invade. Next go to the politics tab and scroll down to the country who owns your target. The naval invasion option should now be available, press it and select the province you want to attack. The following month the game will generate a mission which has a circle around it. You must have your fleet inside the circle. If you hover over the mission marker it’ll tell you how big a fleet you need, but to ensure success just send as big a fleet as you can! You’ll also see how long it takes to complete the invasion.
