We had a member of Radio Canada do this with co-phased Imax antennas I believe...maybe a99. At the time Imax antenna were $90-120 bucks...now they are $260 here in Canada...worked well because locals were all in one direction. Love the video.
@@theboogeyman826 Someone will know the exact shape. Instead of a circle...more like 2 circles overlapping like an 8. He had about 300ft of elevation on me over 60 miles. The shape would also be affected by the ground plane or building it was attached to.

My favorite part of CB, in fact, all amateur radio, is building antennas to reach as far as possible. Have built several 10-11-12 meter antennas, mostly for CB, now trying for a multi-band for hams 20/40. Got to finish license requirements first. Good stuff, maybe hear you someday. Southeast TN.

Jack son! I want to try it as well with my 2 A-99's how well did your set up work? Did you use any ground planes or just the sticks in the air? I want to build one but need more info.
@@shanesmith3753 You can co-phase 2 A99's, but you need to have 18 feet between the 2 antennas. for My setup I had to use ground planes, But 2 A99;s will not need any additional ground planes to work.
@@shanesmith3753 it worked great of course somewhat directional , tested both with and without ground radials. As always the ground radials aided in decoupling from RFI underneath the antenna and also created a more desirable angle of radiation.
I did this in 1982 on UK FM CB using 2x end fed 1/2 wave verticals..it does work being bi directional. You only need to turn 'em 90 degrees for full coverage 🙂
Back in the day I mounted two 1/4 ground plane antennas off opposite ends on the house, Great DXer! And some what directional. The old Radio Shack ones with the gamma match used a tuna can and so239 s to split the signal.

Your radio is a TRC 474 and when you transmit it continuously monitor your SWR and a red diode will come on if any problem with the antenna ! Very interresting experience and result 👍

I used to have almost a complete Yeasu FT-101 series ham station, i love the Yeasu, its a very "Mechanical" transiever to say the least. There is a dude who has "THE COMPLETE" Yeasu 101 station and he has a website explaining everything he has. If i can find his website in my archives, ill shoot it to ya. Besides all of that, pretty cool antenna rig, that is my favorite part of the hobby, experimenting with antenna building.
You were getting a 3 db gain or a double of output. Every 3 db gain is as if you doubled your output and also your receive. If we get our gain from the antenna we also get the better receive. Thank you, I am planning to do exactly the same idea but on 20 meters on top of a 12 x 24 building with a steel roof. I usually end saying CBing at its best, but for you my friend, it is radioing at its best, not just CBing. I will buy you the study book to get your ticket if you will take 2 weeks, make flash cards of the questions with the answer on the back so you can also play on other frequencies, not giving up what you do now. You love the radioing hobby too much to limit yourself.
If you can get 6 102" stainless 1/4 wavelength whips, make the correct length boom, trim the whips to the correct length, you can make a nice 3 element beam. Use it vertically or horizontal. A good gamma match or beta match and put it up high and they work great. Have fun experimenting.
I have to be honest and give you credit where it is due! , and this is coming from another back yard antenna maker for use on Freq's anywhere from 2.4GHZ thru 140KHZ ! You have a VERY GOOD understanding of antennas and how they work! Good on you. There are many Cb'ers and EVEN hams who think they understand everything and knowing ALL of the answers, while in fact these people do not know anything about anything! LOL., as I am sure you have met or known the type? LOL. Tip try to make a U dipool upside down from wire 1.36cm to left 1.36cm down 1.36right 1.36cm down ugly balun by feedpoint 5x 11cm from coax and hang horizontal on 2.35 m/2.65m this is for 27.205mhz vertical polarization or make all side's 1.39m hang on 5meter abovegrond it is horizon polarization for 27.245mhz
2 monnth ago i bought Cobra highgear 2000 HG antenas with golden coil .. But SWR is 2.0 .. What do you think about make a dual system of this two twin antenas ... how many inch ( cm must be beetwen him ) I have this tiny replica of rubber duck truck on a base suzuki jimny .. but this antenas wrong does on 27mhz ... on spectrum analiser good SWR is 28..30 MHz but are to short (main wire ) ... must try to add one two inch ..
Them goofy super air coil antennas are just 1/4 wave whips, while the Firesticks are 1/2 wave or some are 5/8 wave, those should be on top, for the double 5/8 wave, horizon shooting gain lobes, which I would not think works as well when they are ground side, but that may explain the wide, low SWR's ! 4 5/8 waves, and set it flatside, you got a nice sideband shooter.

Yesterday i bought in Poland 90's vintage cobra twin antena on magnet with copper coil ... i have spliter but A or B with switch. How is possible A and B antena and 50 ohm impedance and good SWR ... ??

You'll find that a greater spacing will give a stronger broadside, bidirectional pattern. People often space them 9ft, but the pattern will still be close to omni. Half wave and over will give some real usable gain.

See, there you go. Use your coily antennas for driven element, they might give you better bandwith. Then make a 18'6" reflector and you have a 2 element yagi. Enjoy, 73

@mowerjunkie i just came across a few cb radios at a yard sale for SUPER CHEAP and i pulled them all apart to check them out and the one is a uniden grant am-ssb transceiver with a am usb and lsb knob and im no expert but this thing looks like its been juiced up and its got 2 random switches on the back one is just a up and down swtich and the other is up middle and down... You can! 2 A99's 18 feet apart, and connected with a 75 ohm Co-phase harness would work very well.

Why do you say that? The losses associated with an SWR of 1.5 or 1.7:1 are negligible. And you're not going to blow the final on that radio.

Ive gotten hawaii and somewhere in latin america both were trippin on the CQ im.NW louisiana 327 JUNKMANRADIO. my stations down right now though.
