    Your videos are sooooo helpful. Also your natural thinking out loud is somehow comforting. I don't want to forget that dry sense of humor also. Thank you and great work. I have heard there is a special toll for those damn clips so after watching you I ordered one from Moss.

    Hi Elin! Thank you so much for your instructive and deeply personal videos. I'm impressed with your systematics and perseverance, especially considering how small your audience is. I saw the first ones 3 years ago and you gave me courage on my first project: a body off restoration of a 1958 MGA from France. Now I have split a 1972 Triumph TR6 from California, and am well on my way to reassembling it. Your videos are worth their weight in gold and save me a lot of hassle. Best wishes to you and your family in the new year. Regards Birger from Sweden.

    The inner, brush seal.....put the clips on the seal first, then use the clip tool to pul them up into position on the door.

    Thanks for your comments on the convertible top hardware. That gives me some idea what to look for on my Spitfires.

    I'm in the process of installing finished high gloss Red Wood door tops. Was considering replacing all the door seals while I'm at it... After viewing your video, its clear to me there is no way i'm going to do that....I understand the easiest way to sort those clips are to pull the door off of the car and replace while the door is on its side.....I'll save for the next restoration...great video.

    When I installed the outside door seal to my TR6 I took a quarter to half inch wide strip of steel and bent it in a U at the end. I used it as a tool to pull the clips up from below onto the rubber seal. It worked pretty well but I was using old clips which might have not been as tight as the new ones that you had. I fitted the seals after the glass was in place as the bottom metal strip needs to be fitted to the glass before the window is installed in the door and the door won't fit past the rubber seals with the bottom runner attached.
    Also if you glue a new rubber strip folded in a u onto the bottom of the glass then the metal strip piece can be tapped over the rubber without the need for any adhesive. Just don't break the glass when hammering the metal piece in place and get it in the correct position on the window edge. I never broke a window glass but I put it edge down onto a thick blanket and held it vertically while I tapped the metal strip over the glued on rubber strip. The rubber strip that you have on the bottom of the window glass right now is old and has lost it's thickness which is why the glass is lifting out of the metal strip (bottom runner). A new rubber strip glued to the bottom will be a tight hammer fit

      Well, I used wrong clips as it turned out later. I am sure if I had the right I would figure out a way to install them. Maybe next time :)

    I do not doubt for a second that the tape will hold but it is possible to put the clips in. Drove the door glass all the way to the bottom of the door after removing the bottom stop. Unbolt the window tracks and let them move around. Use the tool sold by the Roadster Factory, bend it a bit s curve for better fitting in the door and open up the area where the clip fits a bit. Get a clip and with two needle nose pliers open up the clip a bit. Put it in the tool and go to a slot on the rubber and while pushing hard on the rubber pull hard on the tool might not putt on completely use a paint can opener to pull it home. With practice can seat all clips on a door in 10 minutes

      Thank you! I am sure it would work well. I also used wrong clip as it turns out so next time I will be better prepared

    Thanks again brother for this great video! I had not a clue how the top latched. Great tip on the door seals too. I wrested with the seals on my Spitfire. I installed a tiny screw in the ends and beat the clamps in place from below. Stupid design I think. I am making a play list of your work so I can have a reference to your tutorial. Again, Thanks very much!

    I did this job on my Spitfire by installing the clips on the seals, placing the seals into the door, then PULLING up on each clip with a J-shaped tool to snap them around the metal edge, trapping the seal. It was tedious, but it worked well. The clips are different for the inner and outer seals. I wonder if you were using the right ones? Mine grabbed the seals very tightly....so tightly I had to open them up a little bit to get them to snap into the metal edge.

    Elin the door clips are actually different for the inner and the outer seals .I told you it was going to be a bear to get them in good thing you have that super tape .

      @RustyBeauties  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, you are right. I didn't know that :) I wish I could read the comments before I post a video LOL. Anyway, it worked OK with the tape and if there is an issue in future I can always go back and install it properly. Thanks for the tip!

      Ralph is correct. You were using the clips for the inner piece on the scraper.

    Can you imagine the poor guy at the factory who had to install those seals every day?

    Should have got the clip tool, you could have fitted the seal properly then.

    what kind of tape did you use? I'm having the same issue as you - loading the trim pieces in and then trying to lower the glass. Also, the glazing strip on the bottom of the glass - do I have to get the strip from moss? Or is there an off the shelf strip I can use? My old strip on the glass was completely perished/petrified.

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyler Werrin it is a 3M double sided tape. I do not use a strip at the bottom if the glass. I just fill up the channel with polyurethane and insert the glass.

    My new windows seem to be a little loose due to the rubber channel seal possibly being thinner.
    What adhesive did you use to mount the glass?

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      polyurethane sealant! Just keep it away from your fingers, it doesn't wash off for days

      Elin Yakov's Rusty Beauties Thank you SO much for the 3M tape trick. I
      tried in vain to get the fuzzies to grab but no joy. Didn’t have much problem with the rubber outside though.

    Is it possible that you put the window clips on backwards.

    • @RustyBeauties
      @RustyBeauties  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, actually it turns out there are different clips for the outer seal. Well I found out too late :)
