    Driving myself 2002 c270 elegance estate. Excellent driving. No faults, but a bit at arches. No electric problems. Fast enough, and by far more comfortable than most other cars. Economic. No need to speed it up (tested 6.6 litres of 100km). About as fast as e220 cdi new 2018 version, and therefore faster than other car brands up to 200cc and even above. Beside, driving in Britain, not in Germany... What else on Earth do you want? Extremely comfortable. Quiet. Changed front suspension, fuel pipes into metal (one of the main faults...but no more :-). New back part of exhorst. Got air-condition, Media center, including Mp3 etc. Gold silver metallic paint, creme leather interior. Often (Mercedes) occuring wiper fault has been sorted with a small electric bridge (cable and switch). Have check it inside out, and ...Northing... Driving that Mercedes till the end...

    this is the elegance you can tell from the wheels and chrome around the car and the wood trim

    Got an 02 model myself just had a Premier Remap done supposedly only to 200 bhp,but the torque is up by around 50% well enough to dislodge the 18/ 225 rubber on the best dry roads,even driven quite hard, combined mpg 35 plus.A transformation -best upgrade

      I did consider the re-map myself, but I didn't keep the car long enough to get it done, nice to know it's an option if I ever get another One though. That's One of the nice things about a Diesel saloon, it seems it's far easier to get some gains from a decent re-map, Petrol cars don't seem to benefit as much IMO.

    The "black death" problem affects all Merc diesels of this age range (220 4cyl, 270 5cyl and 320 6cyl). I had it bad on a 2004 E220 CDi. Having said that, my local garage completely sorted it for £170. Got the black residue off with oven cleaner, and replaced the injector seals only (injectors themself were fine; it's the seals that fail, causing the fuel leak).

      Yes as you say... very common, but sounds like there is a cheap fix :)

    I got a very basic C270 in blue and black interior as my first car. Its a manual. I upgraded the headlights to the Tungsram H7 MegaLight LEDs, they shine better then the halogen H7 from hella. Its a Hungarian brand so I am not sure if you have it in the UK or the rest of Western Europe. I left the high beams untuched. I can pass MOT in Serbia with theme on the car (the MOT is very strict for the past 2 years to the point where they check your door laches)

    Hi. A friend of my father has recently died and his widow is selling a C270 CDI from 2002 as this one (he was the first and only owner) always kept in a garage, with only 42.825 kilometers (26.610 miles) on the odometer, and always serviced in a Mercedes official dealer here in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The car is mint with all origianl accesories (never used, even the spare tire is mint) and manuals (never read). What do you think?

    Elegance trim has wood. Avant Garde has brushed aluminium or carbon fibre interior trim.

    Yes,do the remap it will improve this motor no end & still return 40 ish mpg,but do ensure your boost pipes are well tightened if you have a heavy foot as the extra psi from this tune can dislodge them! otherwise keep the oil & filter changes regular & it should give no problems,I got one @130k & have put 35k on it with a remap it 's still purring.

    blimey, you sure know how to buy good examples, great story on buying it. Really nice looking car, was never keen on the headlight cluster, but a classy shape saloon nonetheless. Go for the remap. Also, try your hand at vinyl wrapping over the horrendous wood interior trim, silver brushed aluminium effect perhaps? I m in my early forties too so agree with you, not to go overboard, however, who are the target buyers for such a car?

      I actually ended up selling the Mercedes, it was just a little too "grown up" for me, and although I appreciate the quality and luxury of the car, it simply wasn't what I needed right now. I ended up selling it to a guy who had recently crashed his Volvo (which he had owned for the last 12 years) and he could not actually believe how great this car was up close, he left here a VERY happy man in his new Mercedes and I got to experience having a luxury saloon for a few weeks :)

      Hi George
      I haven't had the chance to drive a "New Merc" yet, so i can't really comment
      But they drive far better than their age might suggest
      A hell of a lot of car for very little money now :)
      (but I wouldn't want to have to fix any major issue's on it)

    oh dear, good luck with this one. I have to say this does look like a particularly well kept example but these cars have a list of common faults both electrical and mechanical longer than your arm. And a bad reliability record, I would not touch one with a barge pole. Don't even think about the repair costs, I am not so sure these make good taxis around the world, that was the old generation. If I were you I get rid asap before the fault lights decorate the dash. if you do keep it I hope it serves you well.

    • @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes
      @Budget-Cars-And-Bikes  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TBH I don't think I have ever purchased a car or bike which didn't have a list of "common faults" it seems the way things are now, they rush a new car out of the door, before testing it in the real world, then within a few years the faults begin to appear, I don't imagine this is any different than most cars out there regarding common faults? after all it's lasted 16 years and is still an amazing motor, so with luck I got One of the good Ones lol, but you guys know me, I never end up keeping a car or bike for long anyway haha :)

      @leegreveson 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Budget Bucket List Cars And Bikes for the sake of fuel efficiency, injection systems, turbos, electrical this that and the other, car's have become overly complex, peoples demands or rather expectations of a machine that initially got us from A to Be and we were happy enough with that until we desired electric windows, air con, cruise control, ( not sure who decided electric folding wing mirrors were necessary) but you get the point. Nowadays an estate car is not enough, people want SUVs and touch screens. Me, I'm happy with the basics, but what goes on under the bonnet puts the fear of God in to me, and yes I too am old enough that my first car was a 1.5 75bhp saloon that I could service myself, spark plugs, distribution ignition system, knew how to adjust timing to stop pinking etc... I only open the bonnet now to top up the windscreen washer!!!! The future, so we are told, we won't even need to drive the damn things. Now where's the fun in motoring?

      green grass you’ve probably found a bad one, the c220 cdi with the OM611 and the C270 cdi are both one of the most reliable Mercedes, all around Europe these are found, taxis to everything these cars are very reliable when maintenance has been taken care of.
