I've worked in hotel management since 1985 and most of this video is just tosh, I've worked in a wide range of operations from big corporate operations, country houses, city centre hotels, airport hotels and historic inns, I've never had kitchen staff work through the night to produce breakfast, yes city centre hotels do overbook to try to maintain 100% occupancy but as a General Manager I have never followed this policy as I am more concerned with yield per room and overall profit delivery.

Nothing particularly crazy at a hotel but I was at a party in a hotel suite in Cyprus when me and 4 other people all fell asleep on the balcony patio sitting around the table
Woke up to the sound of breakfast being put on the table at 7 in the morning (that coffee saved my life!)
It was surreal seeing that we had all just dozed off in our chairs and we carried on the conversation as if we hadn’t all been asleep for 3 hours or so

Excellent be proud of hotelier industry ...

  • @dukespencer1640
    @dukespencer1640 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Dear Readers,
Hi I love Alux videos- they are some of the best truth in our faces. However this video title brought me excitement as usual and because I am a hotelier myself but this video not as expected in the title.
However here are few things I would like all of us to know about Hotels:
And I put this with experience of work and living in hotels:
    1. Given the fact of no shows there are times when hotels are actually fully booked and will not be able to provide unless they have a early check out room.
    2. Always book in advance before months only and only from trusted websites or directly with the hotel.
    3. Trust me- When I say this- Do read reviews and read the facilities carefully to check if they match your expectations- because while you check in and over expect things- the hotel really can not do anything about your issues and you would left with apologies and maybe sometimes with apology amenities.
    4. Do not be a jerk with staff at reception or restaurants in hotel- always remember you are watched via cameras from every end and if the issue reaches police they will be able access you.
    5. We know of incidents of guest skipping payments and go undetected. One the staff who checked you in or made your booking guarantee ends up paying the expenses as the hotel revenue is generated and will not go back unless it’s a grave genuine case. So don’t screw up please. However always remember all payment skippers out there - Hotels do have a large and unimaginable network- and you will be caught for sure and that time police will be involved also you will black listed globally on the same brand and or even with all major brands.
    6. Carry your confirmation letter or a confirmation in your phone via email or pdf always and cross check your expense right when you check in- don’t end up paying more or less.
    7. Always get enrolled with major brands but ensure you book through their direct website or directly with the hotels of the brand as you will be recognized treated well and you will count. Remember once you enroll example through a a brand but you again book via third party websites like booking.com or Expedia you will never get your stay points at all as that’s the whole point of being brand hearted.
    8. Always carry physical IDs required as per the country law of the hotel you checking in.
Trust me while you feel all works out if you have a pdf or picture of your ID on your phone- BIG NO NO- for example UAe has pretty strict law about passports and IDs physically carried - you won’t be allowed to check in or visit your friend in the hotel room without. There are countries where in Police and Criminal branch officers walk in for sudden inspection and if you without ID and you checked in - the hotel and you both end up paying heavy fines. There is no escape.
    9. Do not over expect your room type and don’t up for you ask for upgrades and freebies. That moment you do that the staff tags you in their begger category 😂 or tag you in all their reports as annoying guest. So on the interim even you have a genuine issue- you will be not taken seriously.
    10. Always have your bed sheets changed on the second day of your check in and you can always ask for a Do not disturb knob in case you working and don’t want to get disturbed by any one knocking. However all countries law ask the hotel to open and check the room post 24 hours DND and a 48 hours DND is a serious issue. This is done in suspension of you being dead or a criminal activity suspect. So don’t lock yourselves up in DND.
    11. Hotels nowadays almost all of them have safety lockers in the room. Use them at your best but don’t forget your items there.
    12. Like Alux mentioned Vloggers and bloggers. Although the concept I’ll expose you if you don’t treat me well works- but as I mentioned earlier soon after you do this. Your profile will be investigated and you maybe not a given a room in most hotels locally or globally brands- networking and gossip spreads faster thru emails and messages than the Vlogs.
    13. Don’t and don’t ever book rooms through your sit down local travel agents- if you unlucky and end up in a hotel not meeting expectations- the hotel will straight ask you contact the agent or wont do much.
There are several cases of frauds because of local travel agents.
    14. Read the cancellation policy properly before you book a room. Input a right working credit card in the web while you book because if your payment doesn’t go through don’t be surprised that your booking is cancelled and you worst hotel actually has no rooms left and you end up in streets or a struggle to a not so very good hotel.
    15. The duty Manager at the hotel can take decisions faster than their big boss the General manager- trust me - but don’t ask the Duty manager or manager for every small thing and right away or you will end up not seeing him or her when you actually require.
    16. When you talk to a hotel staff - Sure be clear what you want and be firm but not rude.
You do not do a favor by staying at the hotel.
In today’s world it’s a double sided game. You have enough hotels to choose from and the hotels have enough people who want to stay. So you don’t actually matter.
    17. Always give feedback based on your stay on your check out. It helps clear things and if you want to choose the hotel again. As your feedback does get recorded.
    18. Do not try to sleep and have sex with hotel staff. While some agree and put their jobs in jeopardy. Some always log complaints of harassment and you will end up in a bad soup.
    19. Remember the front desk, your housekeeper and the security they always know you and keep an eye 👁 on you.
    20. Room service is great as mentioned by Alux. It’s actually nicer than buffet but expensive than it. Minibar is overly expensive unless it’s a luxury hotel and has great choices and it’s worth.
So Pay, Enjoy and hotels are homes away from homes.
    Byeeeeeee

I once spent a night at the Ipswich Motel in Grand Junction, Colorado. If you like wine I do recommend a winery tour as Grand Junction has some kick ass wine offerings.
But I do not recommend the Ipswich Motel. Our room came with the biggest horsefly you've ever seen but it did make for an evening of cheap entertainment and some decent exercise especially if you count belly laughing like kids well after our stay there and, pun intended, that fly was permanently grounded after I got done with him.
Live like a fly, die like a fly. There's a bad movie script for you to finish.

I paid for a stay at Byron Bays’ Byron. Then I didn’t stay. I had cancelled but not refunded from the Agent. I received a few telephone calls to ensure I was alright and that the room was still mine, to take another flight and they’d assist with arranging all of the details. So nice of them. I suppose they profited and I know their service is always high standard, for my next stay there.

Hello Alux, there's a lot of funny things i have done in the hotel but most memorable one is when i made a guest to pay some one else's bill. To me it's quite crazy because i wanted to keep the first payment on me for my daily upkeep since it was a low season with less tips.
