This is such a breath of fresh air amongst the borderline shovelware “kid thing but scary” games and I love it.
Turns out gameplay matters in a game rather than being 'chased' by 'spoopys' all game.

a game that uses the actual game to show the lore of the game
instead of making unrelated spinoffs, tens of books that bring nothing to the table or movies that don't seem all that necessary, it knows that you can put the game's story inside the game itself, which nowadays seems to be a pretty radical concept
and while animated objects in indie games are usually the result of possession, robots going rogue, or some sort of evil corporate experiment, the game doesn't even explain how the damn puppets work as if it wasn't considered important

@@spaceacepl4636 Considering the Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood/Sesame Street style, it's practically implied this is completely normal for the game's world. Heck, the backstory itself is pretty simple-the network shuts the studio down due to declining money and ratings (at least I think I remember ratings playing a part), and with no adults to filter what the puppets watch, they see some pretty messed up stuff on TV (especially since the War on Terror seemed to be around that time frame since Gordon's a war vet) which they can't comprehend due to being children's show characters and having no one to talk them through it, and thus end up a little crazy... with the Unfriendly Neighborhood being comprised of the puppets who completely _broke_ from it and accepted being mean. Thus, Ricky trues to reach out to Gordon to fix the antenna, with him ultimately helping the puppets out with their issues, at the same time overcoming his own issues in the process, and in the best ending, goes on to become the Fred Rogers of the series. That's part of why I love this game; like a certain hippo once said, not every story has to have significance.
I bet the voice actors had a field day saying random weird shit for the enemy puppets' dialogue.

I liked seeing people play this game speculating "What is the HIDDEN DARK LORE behind these LIVING PUPPETS?" and how it just turned out to be a "Who Framed Rodger Rabbit" sort of situation. There's just living puppets around, everyone's like 'yup' and that's that.
I love it's never questioned and It's just how it is.
Yeah, Game Theory with FNAF ruined everything lol. Not everything has a "hidden dark lore", sometimes things just are. I mean obviously the game is kind of a metaphor, which it spells out in the end, but that's all there is to it.

Love the game for it being both scary in its levels and the antagonists being sincere and friendly
This can't be the next huggy wuugy because it actually plays like a videogame and not a walking simulator with government mandated jumpscares
The big thing that sets this apart from a lot of the other mascot horror games is how sincere it feels. It's trying to tell an interesting story and provide a unique message about how important idealism is, instead of being a trend chasing, by the numbers product designed to sell toys and NFTs.

i can see why this game isn't under the current Elsagate wave like Garten of BanBan and Poppy Playtime. This game is actually good, but also not easy to digest like fast food, therefore not Elsagate material. Good, this game is a gem in this damn mascot horror genre.

For people who are interested in it, JelloApocalypse (who directed the VAs) has played the game and posted the vod on his youtube VODs channel. He talks about how fun it was to direct and how nice everyone was, I recommand it ^^

Among all the other good stuff in this game, I really like Gordon as a protagonist. He's relatable, down to earth, and I love his slow arc of allowing his gruff demeanor and emotional walls to slowly come down as he bonds with some of the puppets.
The new format of leaving out [Vinesauce] in the title feels like the end of an era.

The enemies feel quite good in my friendly neighborhood, seeing is how they act doesn't break immersion. They aren't attacking because they've gone rogue or are posessed or something done a thousand times over; they've been echo-chambering their insanity without someone normal there to keep them in check. They also aren't some stereotypical "hidden murder bot", they're just doing what would be a funny gag to do with a puppet, though quite painful for a normal person to get shook and thrown around.
Man, Pikmin 4, TTYD, Metroid Prime Remastered, now this. Arlo is WINNING.
Plus, as an unironic FNAF fan I’m really happy to see this game straining every muscle it can to rescue the mascot horror genre from its current pit of shameless marketing and convoluted lore dumps. It’s got puppets that are genuinely likeable characters, a video game that feels fun to play and isn’t just a walking sim, and again, funny Pikmin guy is here!
It’s just refreshing to see a horror game made for passion’s sake again, and not just to spawn bootlegs at a carnival.

Honestly this story is really sad and the puppets feel like they are supposed to be seen as children and how children absorb everything around them. If you put a child in front of a TV that has politics, war, and real world events, it will effect them just like everyone else. They saw the world for how it truly was, and that broke them. Its just like how when kids grow up and they slowly see that everything isn't as great anymore, and they spiral down into depression.

This. This is the sign of a fun dev. The fact they took a glitch and made it an actual feature in the full release is gold. They could've just immediately fixed it and called it a day, but they loved the reactions people had with it and improved on it. It doesn't need to make sense. It's hilarious, and that's all that matters 😂
Thank you for the edits, Lenky, these were what were missing from Vinny's videos for a LONG time.
I had such a blast with this game. In a way, it's kind of a subversion of mascot horror, and it also helps that it's a solid Resi-like too. And of course, the dialogue was woven by the Szymanski brain-worms, and it's so damn magical.
As for Smeg, it is indeed a brand of toaster, AND a brand of fridge.
I remember hearing about the SMEG toaster on Top Gear UK on one of their christmas episodes, showing off funny auto themed or inappropriate gifts.

This looks actually pretty good. I love the message at the end, that's kind of exactly the reason (afaik) why people hated stuff like Barney (or insert name of positive happy kids show here, obviously alluding to Seasme Street, Muppets, and Mr Rogers directly), and why stereotypical masculine guys in particular (represented by the main character having a gravely voice) want to reject/hate things that are cute/happy/positive/etc (you literally go around shooting them, I mean can't be more explicit than that). Plus the gameplay looks pretty good, and the puppets make the funny haha sounds.
I totally mistook this as just another fnaf-clone/wanna-be, didn't think it would actually be art.

What makes this game work is that it's not even really that "Scary". It's very consistent about the tone of being a Sesame Street/Muppets ripoff, and the ending absolutely ties it all together.
Honestly never seen this game before. Looks a lot better better than most “mascot horror” games that have come out recently. Shame this didn’t catch on but crap like Huggy Wuggy and Ban Ban did

Weirdly vindicating hearing Vinny talking about all the effort that went into getting Kermit to ride a bike. A family member was the set director, and that specific effect involved 3 full-sized cranes, which only offered an hour or so per day to be able to shoot without casting conflicting shadows.
This game is what BATIM should’ve been. Fun game, interesting gameplay and hell, a fucking awesome and clever story. We needed a inspirational message like this after the past three years.
