I have the 686 Silver Pigeon with the Vittoria option - it has a Monte Carlo Stock that is higher than the regular stock. It was designed for female shooters - smaller grip and shorter length of pull as well. As a small woman this was the first time a gun fit me properly. I love it.

I have a 2018 686 Silver Pigeon and it's been 100% problem free, except for the Fit. After purchasing a well used 1992 vintage Browning Citori I discovered that Browning's fit me much better. However I purchased the 686 as a reward for surviving open heart surgery so I am rather attached to it. My solution was to purchase a "spare" stock from Beretta's US parts supplier. The stock is an adjustable comb stock for the 682 Gold E and it is old enough that it's hand checkered with EELL quality wood. Lacking the Shooting School system in England I had to spend a year experimenting how to get that comb set so it shoots like my Browning but it's now dialed in perfectly.

Got my 686 SP1 Game 30 inch in 12ga about 4 months ago. I LOVE it for shooting clays. Only thing I hated was the factory recoil pad - it is sh*t. I swapped it out for a Limbsaver and now it's a complete joy. I considered disabling the auto-safety (it engages safety anytime the action is opened), but after using it a few times I've realized it's not too difficult to disengage after loading to shoot clays be it for trap, sporting clays, or skeet. For field hunting the auto-safety is a good feature in my opinion.

    • @RichardEnglander
      @RichardEnglander 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love auto safety.
Always used them and don't think about them when it comes to turning it off just before I mount the gun.
If you are used to it then even double gunning works because of when you switch it off, and then you are safer should it get dropped or fingers count inn the trigger somehow grabbing it to stop it falling.

Well, I ended up removing the metal tab that provides the auto safety. I removed it nondestructively so I can put it back....but I bet I never will. One year in I still LOVE it.

I have a 2007 beretta 686E although not a silver pigeon it’s in the same 680 range , brought it as my first gun, second hand in 2019 use it for clays and game and love it! No complaints

  • @rudyelizondo1935

I own an older 686 and the new ones have longer forcing cones, shoot smoother (less recoil) and are lighter by close to a pound. The machining is great and very comfortable to handle. We are not chubby fellows with chubby cheeks so all is great for our fits!!! I have owned beretta over n unders (3) for over 27 years. They work wonderfully and never had a problem with any of them. I’m going to pass these shotguns to my children but after I can’t shoot no more. I love them better than the heavy logs of Browning.

I have owned my 686 F/C for 33 years. It has a beautiful stock and it handle as sweet as a S/S game gun. I've used it for rough shooting. pigeon decoying and driven game. ( pulled down some very high pheasants) and of course occasional sporting clays. It's not the only Beretta that I own, 687 EELL, al391, but it's my main gun and it's never let me down. I bought a field/ game gun, not a clay gun. Make sure that the model of gun that you buy suits what you want to use it for. I have several guns in my cabinet, not one of them is a clay gun. as I so far I've had little use for a clay gun. Now that I'm starting to get older ( 75 years) I will start to shoot more clays. so I will buy a heavier multi choke competition gun. Beretta of course.

Started with a silver pigeon 1 and must have put at least 20, 000 shells thru it without any issue ever, now have a silver pigeon three 2021 model and love it even more, nicer engraving and much nicer wood, and still a beautiful shooter, I have put an adjustable come on it, but not to raise the height but to bring it closer to my cheek on the Mount, this has improved my scores no end, can’t fault the silver pigeon range, they are great guns.

David often talks about comb height. In this case identifying the 686 as being a little low in the comb. But compared to the 525 it is 1 3/8 compared to 1 1/2 . Height at heel 2 1/4 compared to 2 3/4 (for the 525). So which is higher in the comb?

2 of these in the house, one is 30ish years old, one about 8.
The old one has a little better wood to metal fit, the metal on the old one seems a bit less prone to oxidation.
The wood on the old one was oil for yourself, it's nicer than the new standard.
The schnabel? Foreend on the old one is nicer.
The extractors are a tiny bit better fitted on the old, better tolerance than the new.
They are low on the comb and need a little cast.
    Excellent value for money.

    Beretta vs Browning
Browning is an American company and like their cars say a mustang or an f100 they are big rugged and great in a straight line, Italians only make cars like Ferrari, Maserati, and Lamborghini….. there is a cultural difference, and it also comes through their guns.

Yes, I learnt that Mr Browning was manly a gun designer selling his successful designs to the likes of Winchester but he recognised the merit of his auto 5. Instead of selling the design he wanted to license the right to manufacture the gun and take a cut of the profits, FN Belgium accepted the condition and the rest is history, having said that I stand to be corrected.

handled a fair few 690 series guns at work David and personally thought they were soulless. very chunky, felt very machine made, average quality wood. however, my 682 gold is a lot slimmer to the touch, full of life and is much more a joy to shoot... wouldn't give it up for any other gun! older berettas have my heart.

I have a 2018 686 sporter and have had to send it in for warranty work which made it bearable but definitely did not completely fix the issues. The trigger was not resetting for the second shot which is frustrating. The selector also moves after shots and gets jammed between the two selections which in turns locks up the break lever. Not sure if I will be keeping it long term.

Looking for a new gun some years ago I fancied one of these to replace my ageing worn out Miroku 3800. I was loaned an old one by my RFD to try but he pushed me towards a Miroku MK38 sporter which was a better fit. Fit being very important. I liked the Berreta but in the end my friend bought it and I the MK38. 5 years on, both guns still handle well but honestly the MK38 was by far the better buy.

Never owned one , shot one once and it was new and a bit stiff so had to force the barrels down to load shells . My own gun was a Miroku MK38 which was smooth as silk and opens and closes like the changes of a Jaguar XJ auto gearbox . Maybe I should have shot a broken in Beretta and the comparison would have been fair . I should get one in the future if the funds allow 🤔

I've had my 686 28 inch sporter for over 35 years. Put 100-200 shells through it a month, it's miss-fired once, do you think I can claim on the warranty? It shoots where I look and I use it for sporting, skeet,DTL,compac, and generally finnish with a respectable score. I've looked at replacing it but can't bear to retire old faithful.
