  • Part 1 • Escape And Evasion, ES...
The 2 Rhodesian War vid are meant as a historical reference only in terms of survival in a society that has broken for whatever reason.. The focus of "Escape and Evasion for the Rural evader" takes its content from a vast array of sources, and topics focusing on tidbits here and there, wherever they can be found. Examples vary from perhaps how a specific piece of kit may be used, to how a rifle should be CAMCON'ED, to how to track small game and field dress ones harvest. Its always practical and never political. Hunger, starvation, death from the elements or OPFOR have nothing to do with race, color creed or religion when the end result comes for you. . If you put your emotional political spin on these vids, thus cause a row- this is on you. You will be banned and removed for life.

Boy that brought back memories. They used to call some of those (K-Car's). Along with the Scouts you had the (RLI) and some motorized units called (Black Devils) if my memory is right. and the bomber in the video is a British Canberra that they used very well. Thanks Brother

When I was 14 & 15 (late 70s) I worked as a groundskeeper/porter after school and weekends, at the apartment complex where I lived. I would sometimes clean out apartments when people moved out and help the maintenance man on occasion. The maintenance man would talk to me about his time in the Scouts in Rhodesia as well as a LRRP in Vietnam. Was probably a big influence on me going into to the military. I think he moved to Alaska from there, was talking about going to live in the bush up there.
When I cleaned out his apartment after he moved away, I found a big box full of Soldier of Fortune magazines, some patches including some Airborne wings and loose ammo. Kept all that for a long time, up until I went in the Army.

Just looked up the Rhodesian Airborne Wings, the ones I remember from the box of stuff left behind were Rhodesian Light Infantry wings. White embroidered parachute with down swept wings on a brown cloth backing. Other patches that I don't remember. Wish I still had them.

Less than 5 US Citizen ever served in the Selous Scouts (to my memory 3) but a couple of 10.000 bought SOF Magazin. SOF Convention ( in the 1980ys) in Las Vegas every 2nd "served in the Scouts"...I was sitting next to one at the Bar (Oasis Hotel), of course in Rhodesian Uniform and he told everyone that "after" Rhodesia he was a "hitman" for Israelsi in Lebanon , lol

Rifle pt and combat cut offs. I thought my old UDT shorts were skimpy. Gotta love the grit of those men. Love the vintage stuff you share. Stay strong.

All good stuff. No matter the army , the war or the time period soldiers are always just getting it done and always keeping en eye on the men beside them.

It seems like a different world. As a child in NZ I knew several Rhodesians and NZers who served in the Rhodesian war. I worked with one South African man (Cape Coloured) who served in the Selou Scouts, lovely man with lifes scars and horrific story's.

"Cape Coloured in the Selous Scouts"...unlikly. Backbone of the Scouts were Blacks (Shona/Matabele) "Comrades" who got trained and educated as Communists "Freedomfighter" and got turned by the Rhodesians. Black locals would never accept a Coloured as "Comrade"....you had some Rhodesian Coloureds who joined the "Struggle" but not in the Bush as Fighters
