Happy to help! You will get a lot of misinformation on a place like this....only because of jealousy. Find a few nice points....post a video.....a few people will try and ruin it. But this shut them all up....LOL
I called the state where I live, and they said that all of the land within something like 30ft of a moving body of water large enough to float a canoe is public land/right-of-way. You’re free to pick up and keep anything you find. However, anything that involves digging or pumping water over soil on public property/right-of-way is illegal. For private property, on the other hand, you only need the landowner’s permission.
Edit: maybe it was 50ft. I don’t remember.
As for hunting (deer, for example), the animal has to be on that public property/right-of-way when you try to take it. If it dies on private property, you’re supposed to ask the landowner for permission to retrieve it. If the landowner declines, you call the conservation department, and they will send an agent or warden to retrieve it for you.
Well none of the land here is public property. It is all private land. He did a video on this before he started youtube. Just did not have the time to post it. It does vary from state to state. It can even vary on different bodies of water within a state. There are places that are public and federal land on the river he hunts, that he cannot look. I should have put those clips in this video. But I am in a future video. It is only a few places and those places are marked with signs. Some states have totally different laws. This is just for this state. You need to keep that into consideration. Even on some states where they say it is illegal, it really is not depending on where the land deed shows property lines. One some rivers they say it is illegal to dig artifacts. But it is not if the property deed shows the property line going 10 yards out into the water. You have to do research. That is all. I know Rock's had contacted an attorney before he started doing this years ago. And keeps up to date on it yearly. The recorded call in this video was done this month. He has done one every year since he started.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Like, if it runs through a State Park or wildlife refuge, that’s different. But here, the navigable bodies of moving water are considered to be routes of public transportation. They can fall under several jurisdictions, including the Army Corps of Engineers. The laws here have very old roots, going back to when it was only territory, not a state, and American Indians, settlers, trappers, traders, farmers with grain, etc. still used the rivers for traveling and transporting. That’s why you’re even allowed to build a campfire on the bank, so long as the wood was collected from the bank.
We have 2 properties. One of them borders a river, and has a creek and a few springs on it. The river is the only one navigable by canoe. So if someone came walking up our creek, they would be trespassing. However, where the creek passes next to our road, on the other side of that property, a similar rule/law applies. I know this for a fact because my grandma called the sheriff on someone who was trapping minnows from the pool of water beside the road. The sheriff contacted the department, and learned that he was not breaking the law so long as he didn’t go any further than where he was.

Also, the area on our deed that is considered to be publicly accessible varies depending on water levels. Our property technically extends a little past the other bank. How much of our property is open to public access depends on where the water line is. Right now, the river is about 7ft deep. That’s about average. If the river goes down or up, the area that is legally accessible to the public shrinks or expands.
We covered some of this lightly in one of my classes, too. I have a degree in ecology and wildlife conservation. Agencies that have varying kinds of jurisdiction on the area include:
Missouri Department of Conservation, Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Sheriff’s Department, the Highway Patrol (believe it or not), U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, state and federal Department of Transportation, the Department of Agriculture, the Environmental Protection Agency, and I’m sure that I left some out.
I always just contact our state’s Department of Conservation on these matters. They are in contact with all of those agencies, are very knowledgeable, and several of their agents and game wardens are old classmates.
I haven’t seen you do anything on here that I would consider to be illegal. The instigator May be thinking about laws in other nations, e.g. Egypt, where ancient artifacts are claimed to be property of that nation by historical right. Who knows?

Last thing. I’m a new subscriber, and as said, I haven’t seen you doing anything that would be illegal in my state. If I do, I’m just going to give you the benefit of the doubt and say that you know what’s legal and illegal in your state. No problems from me ✌️😎
@@riverman9360 well man all i do is call the DnR every year. I usually call in January....I will next year in January to make sire laws have not changed. I just called this year when I recorded that call. And the same idiots on here that harass me....turned me in along with countless other people. Hell that guy told me....i do not need permission from the land owner to sift in the water anyplace on the Ohio river. And I have landowner permission to dig where I do....so does everyone else here I have talked to. The land deeds go way out in the water however. The one place I sift and have permission the property line goes 15-20 ft out in the water. Far deeper than I could even sift. So it is private land--all of it. I just hope someone does not get in trouble doing this in other states where it is different. Because on the one call....they told me multiple people were turned in in multiple states. Get the word out if you see someone sifting in a creek or anything like that.
If I had this all to do over....I would have made a video like this my 1st upload. And I had a call with these guys recorded a year prior to even starting this channel. Me posting this....RUINED some people.....Did they deserve it....probably. But who wants to do crap like this....or deal with it on any level......NOT ME. I just want to enjoy my day...and be left alone.

He has 3 different ones. He has one recorded from 3 years ago when he started. I just chose this one because he did the clips with the squirrel instead of just standing in front of a pc. This was recorded this month, so it is the most recent too. I do not think he wanted the trouble in the past. But kind of had to do this now because other people were not going out to try this, because some people on here were telling them they would go to prison. This is not Rocks, he is not here. I am just doing video's for a few days. It was time to post this. I told him to. I watch video's on here as well. And I was discouraged by some of the things posted. I called around for him and got a list of the people who made complaints. It is more than one. I think several of them are on here with channels.
Rocks has explained the legal aspect of hunting the land outside the water before and he has stated that you need the landowners permission when hunting the banks of the river. He has been honest about it all from the git go. I hope he finds one of these morons on HIS property and sends them to jail. Happy hunting and God bless.

I used to fish it......but it is more like a creek. It would be a place you just walk and hunt gravel bars. I dobt you would find anything sifting

Well Joyce. This in all honesty has been one of the worst experiences of my entire life. The worst I would say. But I will not quit. To many people are depending on me to get on videos and pass on what I know. And I will continue. You know if I did not have this phone call recorded with a D N R Agent....this would have never stopped. So many people have been cheated out of fun on the river by a few bad apples on here. Artifact collecting in the water of the Susquehanna river is totally legal, digging on the islands is not. Just my opinion from Pa.
Yes......same here. Some places Wayne National Forest own the shore as well. But they post it with signs. Even the islands here.....they have signs every 20 yards that SAY "No Arrowhead Hunting". You cannot even pick up an item over 100 years old on the islands. Some of the DnR officers even sift arrowheads here.
Someone will try and give you crap however on here....only because of jealousy. After you start finding nice stuff......you have a channel.....other channels get jealous. They SURE do here. This video shut them up however. I let a few of these guys run their mouth for a year on this......and I had a video like this when I started the channel. ahhaha

Its not like they can keep saying it is illegal now....LOL. This has been going on for 2 years. This guy even called back and told me the guys who called and reported.....got the same answer after all the complaints. And they still are trying to discourage others here. They even knew.......then tried to call other offices and report it there. Now all they did was PO the DnR. The guys up here called agents down there. I would say they are in for some trouble.

You just do not have a clue of how bad this sucks man. No Clue. I get accused of it all. And have. And if any of it was true....youtube would suspend me. No doubt about it. But this is the thing....I have made it now. My channel is strong enough.....google is recommending my videos for free. People are watching. Those guys can keep complaining all they want. I hated to even do this. But so many were discouraged from trying it. And even if I would have done a video talking about the laws.....i would have been a liar. Now What can they say................nothing. Here is a few months in March....I will be on here livestreaming like 1 or 2 times a month for give aways. All the other uploads and everything will be done by a 3rd party. That means double the videos. So those guys will not even be able to harass me anymore. I will not be here.....LOL

What has be PO'ed is getting slandered on multiple platforms for over a year.......telling every one I was illegal digging. Rocks I own a quarter of a mile of Sycamore creek and I have been told that anyone can walk up the creek legally as long as they stay in the water 💦. I have given permission for people to hunt on the creek banks.
Last week I found a burn-pit 6 feet below the surface, I dug around in it a little but I haven't found anything yet. I'm hoping to get back to it soon when the weather clears up.

None of it bothers me anymore Cynthia. I made it here. I make enough to pay my bills off videos and buy food.....and look whenever I want. Now others can try and not be scared to go out on the river because of a few bad apples. This is the video i am MOST proud of. I am proud to have been a part of this. I am. No more videos like this....or negative stuff. After 9,000 subs I am only going to be on here twice a month to live stream give aways and do chats with subs for like 2 hours at night. So those guys wont even be able to harass me. I am going to look double as much....travel....fossils hunt....dig arrowheads, metal detect.....you name it.... I will do it. I am even going to travel like aquachigger and metal detect with other people. It is about this now. Nothing else. I have a while till 9,000---then 10,000 the museum in Wheeling gets a display. That is why i am getting coa's on all this stuff. That is what is going up there....The Token...The clovis......all those fine serrated points. It will help the channel even more. It doesnt bother me at all Darrell. The thing is when they turned me in....they turned in all the other people looking on the Ohio river and sifting too. Along with other diggers (but i did not get in what state).....so some people may be in trouble over this. Because a few people ran their mouth. If you know people digging on here....I would say something to them and make sure they call and know exactly what they can and cannot do where they live. Some places the laws are far different

Well, it looks like those guys are the ones breaking the laws, This is not rocks, I just work on uploads a few times a week so he gets a break. I watched this too and edited the video clips.
It's pure pettiness and jealousy, I wouldn't even give them the time of day. They're probably the same ones who are selling fakes on Ebay, just mad at you for exposing them. I've gone through almost the same thing from a landowner along the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania, except he was telling me he owned all the way down into the water. In Pennsylvania, the waterway is owned by the state up to the high water mark on top of the bank. I also pulled his deed from the public courthouse website and it showed he only owned up to the top of the bank, not into the channel. I don't even sift, just surface walk or metal detect, but once I called him on his BS the next time I was there, he changed his tune and hasnt bothered me again. It is far more than that. This is not Rock's I am working on video's. I will be here like another day. Then he will be back. I think he should post some photo's of finds today on on the the sections. This is not even the half of it. But this video had to be done, so other people will not be discouraged from doing something they are allowed to do. The metal detecting and arrowhead hunting on the river, is excellent. And in the water on sand bars when the water is low, is excellent. Anyone can wade in the water, metal detect and sift. And it is fun
This is rocks now. And thanks buddy. That was Bill my friend who does videos. And I know man. None of this bothers me at all. This kind of did. Only because it discouraged a BUNCH of people from doing the same stuff I am. Who cares what those guys say. I would think they would be humiliated by how fast by channel took off/because we had about the same # of subscribers when this started. I do not like maybe 5 or 6 channels here. That is it. Oh it is ok man. It hasnt bothered me what they say for a long long time. Why would it. I pretty much "Mercy Ruled" them. LOL. I did. You know I did. Everyone here knows I did. It has to hurt. I just had to post this video. So many people thought it was illegal and were afraid to try it......and I want people to try it. Others should not be cheated by the actions of a few. They gave me the names of the people who called in, and when they called in. It is more than 1 person here. And they all have really low level channels. It is jealousy. To tell you the truth...I do not know why my channel took off. But it did. And I just want to do my best from now on. I have help now.....and that changes things. It does. I have good help from a good man and woman. They will keep me on track. I am sure of it. This will be the last video like this ever. People know the law now.....and that is a good thing to be totally honest. I hope others who were afraid to look for arrowheads....metal detect and sift...will now try. When the water is down.....ANYONE can sift in the water...........anywhere. You heard the guy. ANYWHERE on the river. I hope they create channels...and I get to watch the videos. Ah.....it hurts these guys bad. People here know who it was. I have another video coming that is THE DAGGER in their heart. It ends it.......this is low man. And they started turning me in over nothing.....but envy. The one guy cussed me on video......called my finds all BS......then deleted the video. Threatened me......and the thing is.....I am the MASTER of the LONG PLAY I have had this info on video for like a year. I have let the one guy call me a criminal on here to anyone who will listen......for a year. LOL. Now I am going to wait a few more months.....and post another one like this......that is going to destroy both of their reputations beyond repair. They should have not started messing with me.....that is all I have to say. I have them BOTH dead to rights now
I believe these laws apply for the whole country. Where I live you have to be rich to afford property on any River. Now how get permission? Lol
I am not rocks. I work on video's on the weekend while he hikes around for new places to hunt. He has other clips on getting permissions, but it will be a future video. You can find out who owns any land by calling your local courthouse. I think he drives to see the landowner and asks , in person. Tells them what he does. I know some of the places he digs bottles he knows the people or his parents do. He then takes them box's of bottles and stuff on a regular basis. On the river it really does not matter in most of the places he looks, He stays in the water. And anyone can do that. One the shores he does the same thing. Asks. He told me when I started working on this video, he has never had an issue, not one. With any landowner, with any river agent. With anything the entire time he has hunted for anything.
The only issue he has had is hiking into peoples land with permission and people trying to follow him without permission - meth cookers on the land illegally - moonshiners - and Pot Growers. And i would guess that could turn ugly if you are not careful

That sucks you have people trying to get you in trouble. If it wasn't for people like you these artifacts would just get washed into the river and nobody would get to enjoy them. Keep doing what you're doing and thanks for sharing your knowledge
This is not rocks. I am doing uploads and shipping out finds for him on weekends. Everyone deals with this on social platforms. My wife has a cooking channel and she gets it even worse every few days. It is nothing to worry about. He had a video like this ready to go when he started doing this and just did not upload it. He does one like this every year. This is the most recent from this week. I do not think he wanted to talk about this at all. But I thought I needed to post it. People were scared to hunt because of some of the things that were said on here. And that is not cool.
Good call Rocks! Awesome that you cleared up a gray area for a lot of rock hunters. As you know, authorities have been known to confiscate entire lifetime collections from collectors for questionable provenance. It's a downright shame that some are attempting to make accusations to authorities concerning your methods when they themselves are completely unfamiliar with the laws. Furthermore you're SAVING artifacts from being lost to the river forever. Good for you to take the high road, rise above, and educate other enthusiasts all at the same time. I like your style. All is great Mike. This had to be posted. I knew it was legal....but because of the actions of a few on here...a bunch of people wasted 2 summers wanting to try it....and thought it was illegal. I can care less if people think I am a criminal...LOL.......this was just holding some people back from having fun. Now they know......for sure. What they can do. And this.....this video... I AM PROUD OF....because of that. People are going to go out and experience the joy I have making these videos. and that makes me happy
@@rockscousteau I know Brother ! I've taken many, many kid's,newer friend's, etc. out field hunting when I had the best around. They'd accuse me of "putting that there" or something like it just because it blew their mind to see a Real point sitting in their row they'd picked to walk...like I knew where they would be looking exactly. I've lost friend's over places too, Sad ! .
Farmer would have water standing and I'd volunteer to keep it drained off(make a wash) found out ol buddies would swing by and check it every sprinkle of rain.

The thing that sucks is....multiple people wanted to try this....and wasted 2 entire summers not trying it because a few idiots told them they would go to federal prison. LOL. That is what sucks. @@rockscousteau I learned about the Raparian Rights from a very good State Police friend of mine. I metal detect far more than I artifact or dump hunt and there are a lot of great sites on the water as you very well know and I have been threatened with arrest numerous times and arrested twice for trespassing of which I was found innocent due to Raparian Rights. The judges have to look it up and some state archeaologist and historical society people think that all the items that all of us history buffs save from destruction should belong to them for thier own collections because like some of the slime that want to try to get us into trouble because they are either to stupid or to lazy or both to find anything on thier own. Now with that said there are more good folks than bad so it usually works to our advantage. I post very little and talk very little about about what and where i find things. My grandfather told me if you dont have anything to sell don't advertise. I love your vids and understand your passion so don't let these people bother you get a copy of those Raparian Rights laminate them and carry them works for me. NUFF SAID!

It is mental illness Jane. The guy is obsessed with me. It is starting to get a little weird after I learned from a few people like on this call what has went on. But it is a good thing. Every arrowhead hunting video from now on, this will be in it. Linked in the description. This 1 guy has probably caused hundreds of hunters issues in multiple states. As obsessive as he is, I think he is abusing Meth.

The one guy spends all his time on my page.....I do not even know how he works. He has just made a total ASS of himself over and over. When this started I had 200 more subs than him. Now I have around 8000 more. I am being straight up.....the guy likes me. He is psycho. He needs to get on some medication for real.
