  • The 1960s and the Schwinn Bicycle Company together were responsible for a bike that was to revolutionise the industry; forever changing the types of Push Bikes that we were to use from that point onwards.
    Schwinn, the dominant Push Bike company in the USA at the time, went on to produce the Stingray; their biggest selling bike in history. The Stingray, which were produced in numerous varieties, also evolved into the Schwinn Stingray Orange County Chopper in the early 2000's.
    This is the story of the early days of the Schwinn Company through to the creation of the Stingray and its evolution into the Chopper form.

    These Choppers are about $125USD used on Craigslist…the adult chopper from the same era was The Spoiler…one is seen briefly in pink in your video…I have one of each and the Chopper looks anemic next to The Spoiler….

    Great video man. I'm 17 and came across one of these at a neighbors house a couple years back. He let me ride it before putting it back in storage. That got me hooked on the OCCs. I'm in the US, Ohio specifically and they're pretty abundant here. currently there's 10-15 for sale in a 30 mile radius of me. I've got 3 currently. One is a mint black with regular orange flames. It has the front and rear color matched fenders. I also have one similar to yours I'm restoring on my channel. My last one is one of the more rare stealth stingrays. Its lowered 5 inches in the rear and has a bigger front wheel. They're definitely cool bikes. I plan to get more in the future. If you want to keep up with my restos and soon ebike conversion sub to my channel. i may not be the best but I'm going to be making some content on them.

    It belonged at the dump. Everything about them was DISMAL JUNK!! Worthless bearings, bearing cups stamped from tinfoil, barely functioning brakes, chrome that started rusting the first time it rained, stickers that checked and cracked if you left them in the sun more than an hour. Bicycle shaped garbage.

      @@antoineadams4627 I guess you like bicycle shaped objects then, and not actual bikes.

    • @another3997

      It's a shame you're so bigoted. Bikes come in all shapes, sizes and price brackets. Riders come in all shapes and sizes too. Not all bikes are designed to be everyday transport, speed machines or off road monsters. Some are designed just for fun, to simply enjoy riding around, and perhaps be a little bit different in the process. If people enjoy riding them, and they get out and about, who are you to judge? I have expensive cycles, cheap cycles and some unusual cycles, but I enjoy riding them all.

    • @another3997
      @another3997 ปีที่แล้ว

      And yet people liked them, people bought them, and even today, people still want them. You can hardly compare really cheap "fun" bikes with more serious ones that cost several times as much, they're totally different markets. A bit of simple maintenance will keep any bike running, even cheap ones. If people have fun riding them, who cares if you think it's "junk"?

    • @miguellott9038
      @miguellott9038 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@another3997 Yep, a whole lot of people love junk bikes. Anything sold at Walmart is a BSO. Bicycle shaped object.

      Those are Pacific Cycles just owns the Schwinn name nothing more. Schwinn been gone since 1991 but 2nd owners Schwinn Cycling and Fitness were truly loyal in Schwinn's heritage. Sadly, they folded in 2001 and now owned by current Pacific Cycles.
