I use a towel for drying my dog's paws when we come back from our walks, best thing ever so the house does not get too messy. Love you are adopting a rescue, ours is one as well! I have the car buckle as well, the safest thing to do! I would recommend compostable bags, bit more money but a lot less plastic! Go you enjoy your new pup!! Looking forward to meeting her here on your channel!
So excited you’re getting a rescue. When I first saw you were expecting a puppy from another state I wondered if it was a breeder but so glad to hear it’s a rescue service! I have two rescue pups and they’re sweethearts
Yesss she’s our little southern girl! My mom’s rescue came from Mississippi and she’s the sweetest, gentlest dog! This rescue specializes in shepherds, which we’ve been talking about getting for around 5 years now so it’s crazy that she’s going to be here in five days🥰😭
Quick note (and this is purely just based on my experience) you might want to have a smaller crate for her when she's a puppy, only big enough for her to stand up, turn around, and lie down, it discourages them from peeing or pooping in their crate and helps them house train quicker. They view their crate as their den/safe space when it's smaller and have a place to retreat to when they need it. If the crate is too big, they'll have less of a problem going in the corner of their crate and just staying at one end of it.
The crate actually has a divider so it becomes much smaller with that! And then can expand as she grows. She’s been crate training with her foster mom and has become really good about going in the crate at night and hasn’t had an accident in a couple of weeks so that’s great. We’re definitely expecting her to have an adjustment period where her training progress may stall or revert backwards since she’s coming to a new home, but from the videos we’ve gotten she’s SUPER smart, we’re so proud and excited haha 🥰
@@TheNightOwl1212 was just going to say that about the dividers! This way you don't have to keep buying crates! However, careful with the rope toys. There have been issues where the dogs chew it up and swallow long strands and it causes issues. (check online for some of those stories!)
I'm so happy for you both, Kaylee and that your puppy will probably love her new home with her new family. I couldn't imagine this world being devoid of the accompaniment one receives not only from Dogs and Cats, but from all species.
A 6 in 1 leather leash should be mandatory! Congratulations on your new fur baby. Get a great Veterinarian. PUT electric plug covers over that set of plugs, unless you want a fried dog (in kitchen photo of crate) A Great Pyrenees is going to be a handful. She won’t like being in the crate. My heart belongs to Rough Coated Collies and I’m picking up my new Collie in two weeks! Chewy dot com is great for supplies. Get another baby gate to go above that gate. A Great Pyrenees can WALK over one gate. Get the largest KONG which you can fill with dry food for her to chew on while in a crate. Chewing is very calming for a dog. My dog is my service dog, so I am with my dog 25/7.
My mom's dog trainer said to not get the extendable leashes for a bigger dog. It's harder to control them if they jump up at something, like a car passing by or another dog and human, or another human. Put the loop on your wrist, holding that part of the leash, use your other hand on the side you want your dog to be on, about halfway down. You can slack it if they need to go to the bathroom or to sniff around, or if there aren't too many people around. Helps them learn what you want them to do on a leash so much easier.
If you use an extendable leash make sure you don’t wrap the extendable part round ur hand because sometimes it can damage your hand if it is a wire type one
King of rock pop and soul fan I was test driving a new service dog and the dog had one of those, the dog bolted and broke three of my fingers! 6 feet should be the furthest away a dog should be for safety of dog and others.
Congratulations! I rescued my German shepherd/ husky mix, and I love him! Beware of the shedding of the Great Pyrenees/ Shepherd. I can only imagine the hair everywhere! I have to vacuum daily in my own home, and my dog’s hair is still everywhere😭😭
Oh my god I am bracing myself for the hair 😂 two notorious shedding breeds in one🙈 we’re putting a really nice vacuum on our wedding registry, I have a feeling we’re going to burn through the cheap one we currently have haha!
@@TheNightOwl1212 I recommend getting something like a Roomba or a vacuum like it to help spot clean the hair as well! My mother has a nice Roomba at her house and got it just because of my dog XD I also have a shark (Roomba like) vacuum to help spot clean during the week. It Really helps!
Congrats! Can't wait to see her! Might want to get some lint rollers lol. They will be your best friend when it comes to dog hair on your clothes. We have a white dog that sheds so bad!
You’re the second person to mention this! I actually didn’t know this, we had extendable ones for our dogs growing up and never had an issue but I’ll definitely keep that in mind!
@@TheNightOwl1212 I never knew this growing up either, but my friend is a dog trainer and she told me about this. Definitely sticking to normal leashes from now on :)
I’m so excited for you guys!! We got our dog two years ago and she has completely brightened our lives! She wasn’t a rescue, but where you’re getting yours at 4 months old, there’s still lots of time to get her used to everything. Can’t wait for your next video and to see little Gypsy!! 💕
Yes we love that she’s still a puppy so we can have those experiences with her and watch her grow up 🥰 my fiancé is so good with dogs. He can’t wait to get her into puppy classes and take her to the beach and hiking, etc. We’re lucky we were approved for adoption in the spring so we’ll have ample time with her outdoors before winter comes back. Then she’s going to see snow which will be interesting to say the least😂
TheNightOwl that’s so exciting! I remember when we first got our dog out on hikes and took her swimming! She loves getting to run and around and is a total water dog! I know you guys will have an amazing time! The first snow is always entertaining. Our dog was so confused at first but loves it now!
I agree with other comments about retractable leashes. Keep it to a 6 foot set leash. Also you can look into a play pen for her once she is a little bigger. When my boyfriend and I are at work we keep our pup in his crate with the door open and the play pen around it! Lastly, for once you're training her I would get the easy walk harness(www.petsafe.net/easywalk), it hooks in the front and since she is going to be such a big dog that will help with pulling on walks!
Because she is a great pyranese mix I would suggest getting large breed puppy food, it has extra calcium and vitamins to prevent bone/joint issues as she grows. Also extendable leash is a bad idea for a large dog, they have a tendency to snap and break which can injure you or the dog.
We’ve been given tons of instructions from the rescue as to what’s best for her 😊 I’m in regular contact with her foster mom who grew up with Great Pyrenees dogs and she’s given us several joint supplement brands to look into as she grows. I’ve never heard the thing about extendable leashes and have never had an issue with large dogs using them if trained properly, but we won’t be using one for her at the moment regardless.
Girl this is perfect timing I got the call today that I’m approved to adopt a certain puppy this weekend! I’m so excited and can’t wait to get the final call so I can buy him things! 🥰😭 Mine is coming to New York from Mississippi, it’s a black lab mix I’m gonna name him Jonas!
Yayy! Congratulations! That’s how I felt waiting haha I just wanted to start getting Gypsy stuff but we had to get confirmation first. It was tough to wait it out lol
I have the same tether seatbealt for my rescue, and it works great! Not only does it prevent Kaya from trying to jump in my lap while driving, but there was an incident when I had to slam on my breaks when a car drove out in front of me, and it kept Kaya from flying off the seat and slamming into the dashboard!
Our dog (also a rescue, we've had him since 2016 when he was about 1yr) also hates baths, but only if the water is already in the tub? He will literally climb my mom if there's already water in the tub (he's a smaller dog, so he can do that). He does just fine if we put him in the dry tub and then turn the water on, tho. Idk why, lol, but he's a weirdo. I have so many stories. Anyways, I'm excited for you guys to get Gypsy! I hope her transition to her new home goes smoothly and I can't wait to see her in your next video!
That’s too funny! Apparently Gypsy did okay in her puppy pool bath the other day, but the hose has to be on low with no sprayer attached hahaha. Luckily we’re coming into summer so we can do the outdoor baths for a bit! I can’t wait to post next weeks video! We’re so excited to meet her ❤️
Ohh that’s actually in the kitchen! So we bought it at Walmart back in the fall and replaced the pot about two months ago because it grew so much. The pot is hanging on a hook that was already in the ceiling but you can get them everywhere they sell plants. The vines are growing up a piece of fishing line that we connected from one hook to another! We also used miracle grow soil when we changed the pot and it’s growing so fast haha!
What is with the shepherds and Pyrenees (sp?) breeding? My coworker's has one of each (had a litter) and I have heard of a few other mixed breeds with those two as the main breeds. Hope you have fun. It will be an adventure.
Oh that’s funny! We don’t know where she originated from since she was found but they think that’s the mix she is. Soo cute, she’s such a doll, we can’t wait to meet her ❤️
Thank you! Adopting is so amazing, I got emotional when we got both of our cats, I can only imagine when we meet the dog 🙈 And yeah looked into Blue Buffalo as well! My fiancés dog when he was growing up had that brand😊
You would be better off crating the pup as often as possible in the first 2weeks you have him. Dogs are den animals. He will learn to love it. I've been a trainer for 37+ years.....should you have any questions.
She’s already four months and has been crate training very successfully with foster mom so fingers crossed that continues when she arrives here! We’re definitely going to crate her while away at work and as she gets older she’ll be gated in the kitchen for shorter periods that we’re away. Thank you so much for the advice😊
dont spoil the dog, as difficult as it will be to resist it, you need to speak "dog", think of the "pack", they dont speak spoil, they speak "leader of the pack". i recommand you to watch the series
She’ll be well loved 😊 I use the word spoil to mean she will be provided with all the care she needs and more, not meaning we’re going to let her do whatever she wants haha
One quick tip, one playing with her do not sit on the floor and let her run and jump into you, because when she gets bigger she doesn’t know the difference so she will continue to do that while you sit on the floor and she will come running towards you. I know it’s really fun to do that when she’s little but they don’t know the difference when they’re little or big.
I use a towel for drying my dog's paws when we come back from our walks, best thing ever so the house does not get too messy. Love you are adopting a rescue, ours is one as well! I don’t recommend extendable leashes for big dogs as an everyday walking leash, it’s really hard to control them on.
So excited you’re getting a rescue. When I first saw you were expecting a puppy from another state I wondered if it was a breeder but so glad to hear it’s a rescue service! I have two rescue pups and they’re sweethearts

Dont get an extendable leash!!! If the dog runs around and gets tangled she can lacerate you or herself! Normal leashes are much safer!

If you watch them then it's not a problem. I walk someone else's dog and I use an extendable lead on him and he never gets tangled.
On an extendable leash (or my one) there is a lock so you can keep the leash the length you want

Also when your dog gets bigger you might want a raised feeding station
