I think its form factor is a legacy of the days when there really were no helmets that were both light and provided any serious protection. In the 70s/80s a lot of secret squirrel types would literally be clearing buildings in off the shelf bicycle helmets.
While yes, we have adopted the more mediocre Ops Core, we did so as late as 2016. I have been conscripted in that time, and even then I haven't seen a single Ops Core helmet. We made do with our Kevlar Helmets from MSA, and even then, we didn't had enough for all to go around, as a few individuals still had to take the even older M75 steel helmets.
I don’t see the point on these having cut out ears the Royal Marines are starting to use these but in combat shrapnel is inconspicuous it will probably hit the soldier there it won’t hit the helmet
I think it’s ridiculous too, but it has some benefits like not obstructions your sight and hearing as much but that’s about it. I would rather have the coverage.

High speed, low drag is the way to go, but real operators use steel pots and chicom rigs.
Some of the people with the highest kill counts in the world use steel and old Chinese and soviet canvas for sure

Your going to need to get more specific then that there different helmets suited to different situations and environments
crye did not design ocp, ocp is a knockoff of multicam, and the army did not have any variants of it prior to ucp
Both patterns are actually patented by crye along with a multitude of other variations.
