I have been asked several times how I painted these little flowers. I painted these many years ago, and I believe Sunset Peonies - is where I gathered inspiration for the Poppy on the left. Although I give everything my twist, and we don’t paint the same, I loved the wide flat, and side-facing Peony. Check her out; she has some cute little bunnies and Whimsy too!

My Meeden paper suggestion is 100% cotton, has a really great texture and is finer grade. My Artisto paper recommendation is student grade, handles lots of water, (still good for wet on wet) and is a bit less expensive.

I love how you do this, Debbie! 🧡 My paint seems to dry up before I get the next colour in. And when I make it a bit more wet for the first colour it gets too puddly and then the second colour spreads too far. I can’t seem to get the balance of water right. 🤷♀️ Lots of practice but little success so far. You make it look so easy. 🥰

Water control is one of the most challenging techniques in watercolors. Once you get the feel of that you are ready!
Before you bring your brush to paper, make sure to tap off on either a paper towel to get excess water, or on side of paint well.. Its not just about the water on your brush either, if you are going onto wet paint or paper, that's even more water. This is where I share to only apply paint or water on paper that is shiny, vs puddly. Hang in there if you can get this part, the rest will come and you will be so excited! Have fun show yourself grace :-) I bet you are doing better than you think xo

Yes, its a challenging concept to "Save/keep the whites" I will be sharing a post or tutorial on just that soon. (Since I get asked ALOT) Meanwhile, it may help to lightly pencil in those areas and paint around them, then as long as you didn't paint over the pencil lines you can erase them. You can use Guoache to paint in the whites, or even masking to remove after painting. I like teaching the technique of "leave the white spaces" first as I think its such a powerful skill. You will get it! Happy painting friend.

This is astonishingly beautiful! I’m no artist but I’d love to try this. I’m fairly okay at line and wash so it may turn out well. I tend to use coloured pencils and brush markers to add detail. It probably won’t look anything like yours.
Oh I bet you will do better than you think, whatever works for you fine details is good! Its good to practice those fine line brushstrokes just using the very tip of the paint brush and light pressure, (although if I have too much coffee forget it!) I love my Princeton round brush long 6, (not affiliated with them) Princeton Velvetouch long round 6

I'm trying to recreate this gorgeous piece of yours but with the red poppies (gift for my daddy for Memorial Day) ~ do you happen to have any advice? I'm worried all the red will lose the petal edges and don't know how to circumvent that (I'm a beginner). Thanks for yet another great video!!
