      I actually have that exact bike. Love it, I have learned to ride with much higher gears and it makes even more sense. Coming from a 4-cyl that is a bit of a process to re-learn. 🙂 mine was equipped with the quickshifter, it is great when passing cars for example. 👍 mounted a puig touring-screen.

    I bought an adventure sports a couple of months ago and love it. Yes difficult to move by hand but great out on the road and dirty lanes. Over 3000 miles on the clock already around North and Mid Wales, much of that 2 up and loaded. Very pleased with it.

    Just picked up this exact color way and model (2020 model). Had just 4K miles on it from its previous owner. This is my first ADV and so far loving it. A Gorilla sized bike. Great review. I agree with you about torque over horsepower. Both my FJR and my GSX FA redline at 9k but both bikes have torque low down and are rocket ships. As far as competition I would say the Super Tenere. However owning a v- strom for gravel roads or very light off road I wouldn't change the strom. Thousands cheaper . admittedly not as well speced but a bulletproof bike. Stay well👍

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha indeed, fit me very well! Thanks :) Yep, on the road torque is far more important as it's not like you can go 200mph everywhere anyway.
      I didn't count the Super Tenere as it's being discontinued and hasn't been updated in quite a while, hopefully they'll replace it with something competitive :) A new strom is about the same here I think, that'd be a worthy opponent for this too :)

All the controls look SOOOO much better on the one you rode here! I love how it rode though, very fun bike.

    Great review. I have same one and love it. TOUR mode is actually Max Power btw. Honda logic is that more lights is more intervention to make life easy. Couldn’t agree more about the Adv Sports. I get 370-420k out of the 18.8L tank. Why carry all that weight around 100% of the time when you may need the extra range 3% of the time ... just throw on a 5L fuel bladder on the rare occasion you need it.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! :) Yeah I figured that out afterwards, no wonder I was having such a good time going around in tour :D Exactly, like if you were going on a proper mad adventure you'd have to carry extra fuel anyway, and the likes of itchy boots has gone some distance with a teensy tank so I really don't see the need personally.

    This kind of bikes are actually very reasonable for many people, they have good ergonomics and handle great especially on bad roads. It's not a surprise they sell well.
    I wouldn't mind having one... if I had enough space.
    As of competitors there are plenty. The BMW R1250GS is the king of the category and the reference to beat, yes it's bigger and heavier and uglier but has a more torquey engine and loads of tech.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly, they really suit Ireland very very well too due to our...ehh....interesting road systems in places :D
      Space and money is my issue :D
      The GS is great, but much pricier and heavier which does make a big difference to me. The tech I'm not pushed on, this had the right amount for me. I'd buy one of these all day over a GS for Ireland, if I was touring Europe a lot I'd get a GS.

    I test rode the first model of these 'new' Africa twins and really liked it, the reports about the spokes corroding put me off a bit, spokes and chain drive adds up to a lot of cleaning,
    think there's a new sports tourer type in the pipeline at Honda with this same engine, NT1100.
    if they make it with cast wheels and shaft drive could be a massive seller for them.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ive read that was sorted, but yeah it's a risk with them definitely! I'd actually love to have 50/50s on them and explore a little 😁 So spokes and such are ok!
      Yeah I've heard of the possibility of an NT1100, that'd be a superior road touring machine for certain. But the whole go on the odd trail does appeal to me a bit :)
      Defintely tho that engine in a nice road tourer would be badass

      Standard was actually fine for me tbh :) High seat would be a bonus :) An odd position for which? :) The T7 when it came out I really nearly bought one on finance, I reaaaallly like them, but now I think I'd go for this model Africa Twin, fits me well and I think it'd be better for me size wise :) The MT09 is an animal, I also reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallly like the new SP of those :) Haha every time man, it's mad to lift the front, doesn't actually lift but feels like it wants to :D

      @@TheGorillaBiker The new MT09, didn't like it, but new frame, bigger engine, slipper clutch from factory, realy nice. Tbh, the tracer 900 would be my ideal bike for the motorway to Dublin if I go back to the office, but I like that the T7, Africa Twin won't suffer much in easy gravel when in travel.
      The odd position I mean, me being a leprechaun and stopping in uneven terrain and forgetting that one side is lower or things like that.

      @TheGorillaBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think it looks as nice but I like everything else :) Tracer 900 would be lovely too, great engine and a lovely sound out of them :) I think if it was down to a Tracer or whatever I'd go for a T7 or The Africa Twin tho. The Africa twin standard is so light, I couldn't believe it really. :) So should be fine in the gravel yeah :) Especially with good tyres.
      Ahhhhh I getcha :) Yes, even with the low seat height I think the Twin would still feel very tall, the T7 is a nice bit shorter feeling.

    Ok...a weird comparison...offroad capabilities and modern features aside, how do you like the ride, engine power, handling etc compared to your CBF1000? I need to know if it would be a step up from my CBF1000fa (second gen) or of i would be missing the 'fun' of my bike...

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's honestly very hard to say. I don't think you'd miss any of the fun reaaaallly depending on your riding style. If you go very fast on open roads, maybe. The CBF is certainly a sportier bike. But the twin is punchy and just as fun on the road within relatively sensible limits..it honestly depends on your main use for the bikes really I suppose. The twin handles extremely well too. Even on knobbies.

Never had the chance to personally ride the KTM but know a few fellas who own them, savage bikes, but if you want reliable go for the Honda :) The 1050s can have a few issues too, nothing major, same as the KTMs really but out and out no worrying, the Twin. The only thing youve to watch on the is the spokes on the wheels corroding!

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It depends on a few things, no.1 are you a headcase? If yes, then no it's probably a bit too powerful. No.2, it's veeeery expensive as a first bike imo. Now if you can afford it then go for it. Just be prepared that as a 1st bike its a lot more likely to get dropped as you park it etc, so are you ok with that bill/damage as well. But it's not crazy powerful as a 1st bike. It has plenty of torque though and would bite you if you went in a bit hamfisted.
      Basically there's no perfect first bike for anyone imo. If you don't feel comfortable on smaller bikes and are happy with the 2 above things then I'd personally say go for it for what it's worth! Just take it handy!! :)

    I don't think it's a coincidence that they came out with a larger displacement adventure bike around the time that Harley has brought a new audience attention to adventure bikes. Great price in company to their competitors.
    In all reality, most big adventure bikes are in reality light touring bikes but I guess the term "adventure" is more marketable. I discovered that after buying my Tiger years ago that finding trails to ride larger adventure bikes was difficult, most off road parks were full of UTVs and kids on motocross bikes doing 80 on single tracks.

    • @TheGorillaBiker
      @TheGorillaBiker  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the driver was most like the GS getting the variable cam timing and the 1250 displacement! Harley are probably targeting that and the 1290 super adventure too. The Africa Twin is kind of between classes to me :) They were lacking that little bit of go and seem to have resolved that.
      Yep, 100% agree, most of them never see so much as a rough dirt road let alone a dirt track :) Haha yeah trails are almost always better tackled by mid size and lower off-road biased bikes!
