My wife and I moved from AT to Gold Coast in last year and we also find it a bit too busy for us. Sunshine coast is great but it gets really hot anywhere North of Brisbane.
I think every area has its own profile, for our "lifestyle" Sunshine Coast is just a 100% match
The countryside around Byron Bay is very nice. Unfortunately, Byron Bay these days is very crowded and over priced.
