Advancing Fabric - First Week Microsoft Fabric Q&A

So the dust is settling after Microsoft Build last week - Fabric was announced, a world of content was suddenly let loose into the world and there was a global pandemic of information overload. It's fair to say people had questions!

It is good that MS keeps innovating and developing new services and new stuff, but at the same time i think the cycle is a bit too fast and user like enterprise and us can not keep our pace to follow and adapt those new stuff into production. Like synapse, for large company, we need a lot of time to adapt in production ecen MS needs to deal with bugs for a period of time as well, but suddenly Fabric comes up, and we need to do research again at the time we just finished implementing synapse…

Does One-lake site in the same region as your Power BI premium workspaces or how do you find the region where one-lake is located?

Good to know there is new stuff... but I'm still cynical tho. I'm really annoyed that they are not fixing synapse. Synapse is so promising, but has so many annoying hangups and quality of life / version control problems. Some of the connectors are so flawed and broken. We started moving to databricks which has its own pains and lacks connectors but is much more flexible and seems to be on a better trajectory imo.

Haha, oh I thoroughly encourage the cynicism, just trying to give some perspective from the research we've done so far. Lots of promising things, lots of things promised that aren't there yet 😉

Can we read warehouse tables from the lakehouse? I wasn't able to do that. But yes, I can create a lakehouse shortcut in the warehouse.

Good to know about Microsoft fabric and all its features and capabilities . How about Write back capabilities from PBI?

Do you know if Synapse Spark will get support for V-Ordering when writing delta/parquet?

Synapse Spark in Fabric already writes with v-order by default when writing Delta :)

Can we "prepare" the transition to Fabric by turning on V-Order there?
