The BROWSE permission did not fly well with one of our teams fearing that now everyone sees what they have and it's gonna rain access requests.

Hah - well the data enthusiast in me sees that as a good thing, people wanting to use and get value from the data!
But if they don't want it discoverable, they don't /have/ to grant BROWSE access to any groups!
