    Have done the suspension upgrade on the raptor, went with Mikes shock shop and the re valve. Gained about 40mm in height front and rear with front/rear bars, rock sliders, winch, roll cover and short bed rack with some gear on it. About 30mm once loaded up fully. Lost some initial small bump compliance which you notice on the street but letting air out of tires on dirt bought that back and I don’t notice much difference in the big bump suspension response. Worth it to me to get a bit of extra clearance while carrying the weight (1440kg front, 1400kg rear fully loaded to go). Going to need to keep an eye on front of my tub with the rack now.

    • @rb25detMitch07

      Also got mikes shocks relvave to suit lifted springs. Definitely a worthwhile option for sure.

    I’m in the same boat as you with the suspension I believe if you put airbags in your springs you will get the comfort and be able to stiffen it up under a heavy load I have a bull bar on the front and winch have raised 2 inches but gone a heavier spring I really want to keep the ride comfort if possible love your show keep sending good videos thanks buddy

    Years ago, we used to use 3 inch exhaust pipe as a snorkel - when we couldn't afford the ridiculous price that the only maker at the time - Safari - used to charge. Now the 'special' metal tube snorkels cost at least twice that of a Safari - go figure! No surprise about the rims, since the toughened sidewalls of the M/T style tyres generally scrape along the ruts. Sidesteps are meant to be sacrificial - surely better than hitting the sills! All in all your relatively stock Raptor performed well. I like that OzRoo rack - I have seen other TH-camrs with those; pretty cool. Like a Rollcage - should be no give in the tub with that rack; forces between chassis and rack? I had the same thing with my trailer plug - that departure angle can be severe on the low slung bits lol. Currently cable tied higher up! Thanks for the vid mate, you are in an excellent location. Cheers mate.

    I have the same winch bar. It adds surprising weight. Nothing is removed and things added, where a bull bar at least saves some weight with all the plastic gone. Would advise against zero rated front springs, she'll sag in the nose. I went with small bull bar and winch springs and all good.

  • @jadmacrae
    @jadmacrae 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    thanks for the vid. i'm in a 2017 ranger xlt and curious how you went with you battery and fridge in the tub. did you have any issues with water ingress into the tub (around the tailgate) during water crossings? my fridge is set slightly lower than yours (maybe 100mm above the tub floor on a platform/slide) and i am worried about it getting flooded.

    • @RoundTheFire
      @RoundTheFire  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Water does come in the back but at a much slower rate than I would expect, no issues with the battery getting wet. my fridge cops more water from heavy rain than anything else.

  • @BravoFox27
    @BravoFox27 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    7:09 Most definitely the rack causing the crack. The tub is not designed to carry load there.
    8:06 My South African model did not even come with covers!
    How does your rear shocks' reservoir covers look? The Plastic "FOX" covers? Mine is taking a hammering from driving dirt roads and I know of 2 Raptors that lost a shock from getting hit by a rock...

    Hey Damo, like others i really enjoy your honest reviews on the Raptor, which has got me thinking of getting one. My only concern is it'll be my daily drive towing 1500kg trailer, and then when holidaying, a 2 ton wind up van. Outside of towing we do trips to Vic High Country and desert trips etc, so Raptor would be great for that. Do you think the Raptor would suitable for both work and play? Concern is really the towing constantly on a daily basis. Cheers Mike

    Would you consider one of the new long range fuel tanks for it?

    • @RoundTheFire
      @RoundTheFire  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a brown davis 150L in my 2018 raptor, but again without the suspension upgrade there was a lot of sag in the rear. Also the DTE and fuel gauge don't line up after installing a long range tank, I needed to find someone in brisbane who had access to ford scan to adjust the parameters in the computer.
