More to the F=MA, you are taking that Kinetic Energy and focusing it down to a small impact surface. Pressure=force/area. Now you can that and set to Kinetic Energy = (1/2)mv^2 and get your Newtons. You guys are nuts and Amazing. Edit, of course one must factor in the other guy's KE for the Final Answer.
these guys know the permanent damage they are taking to their brains, and continue to do this? This is even worse than football. those impacts are pretty damn powerful and have the power of a horse behind them concentrated into a tiny area. I'm surprised there haven't been a bunch of fatalities or people with TBIs.
You’re right. This sport is a recipe for CTE. Even when you aren’t unhorsed and don’t have your head whiplashed into the turf-every hit is the type of sub concussive impact that after repeated exposure accumulates prions in the brain. There’s also the chance of landing on top of your head and breaking your neck…I’d say this is at least as risky as playing American Football.

@@charlottepeukert9095 The security problem inherent to this era is surely the thing that must have been the most problematic and scary for the people of this era.The Middle Ages were marked by a certain political and social instability, with frequent conflicts between kingdoms, lordships and rival factions. Feudal wars, barbarian invasions, succession struggles, and territorial disputes were commonplace, and personal security could be precarious for many people, especially in times of unrest. Peasants were particularly vulnerable to the ravages of war, as they were often the first to be affected by looting, burning, and forced requisitions of food and resources by moving armies.
That kills me to see jousters without the best armors. Some of them look cheap, and i still haven't seen a properly affixed helm, or a frogmouth one. Of course they get injured, they don't wear proper protection
Frog-mouth helms are made specifically for jousting and were the primary helm used in tourneys in the 15th and 16th centuries however The first recorded reference of a tournament was dated in 1066 and refers to Godfrey de Preuilly, who is described as having invented the medieval tournament and as we know frog-mouth helms were simply not around yet and jousts still happened on the regular using traditional battle field helms. AS for the helmet affixing my guess is they have leeway because if you fall on your head it and its tightly affixed it wont slip and the rest of your bodies momentum will be transferred through to the neck and it will break whereas if the helmet is slightly loose it can shift with the impact and disperse it over a wider area? i dont know that's just my best guess.
@@wariv7746 well no, if the helmet is loose, then you can see how their head is thrown back then they take a hit. That's extremely dangerous for the neck. The frogmouth appears in the end of the 14th century, at the same time of the arret de cuirasse, the lance hook. If you take a lance hit in the head with your helmet free, it will snap your neck instantly. That's why frogmouth helms were bolted to the chestplate. Even if you took a lance hit to the head, the shock would be absorbed by your chest, and your head can't be thrown back, wich is a good thing too when you're falling, as your head and neck are entirely protected and kept in place by thick padding.
@@jeanladoire4141 Hey i said it was my best guess i didn't say it was fact and no it wont snap your neck instantly as there are clips from this very channel of people taking direct helmet hits and because it wasnt secured the helm came flying off and absorbed most of the impact also yes appeared at the end of the 14th but did not become wide spread until later and back to your original comment do you think there were no injuries or death in traditional jousting?

Real knights used hollow lances in Joust competitions to prevent injuries as it was a sport These guys are playing it as though they want the other man to die !
You are partially correct. Historical Knights used hollow or fluted Lance to avoid injuries as they were more interested in putting on a show. We are trying to bring this to a modern form as an Extreme Sport. We have many safety regulations and have no interest in killing each other. However, it is a dangerous sport. To say we want the other man to die is the same as saying that competitors in the UFC also want to actually kill each other, which BTW is illegal.
Wouldn't (1/2)MV^2 would be the appropriate formula, not F=MA? If you're not accelerating then your force would be 0? Either way, they take one hell of a blow
