I played this piece twice, once as a rearrangement right when it came out. Again a couple years ago for a small percussion ensemble activity. This rendition sounds like how we imagined we were playing. Watching y'all play this with such accuracy and musical execution brought me right back, reminding me of the joy in creating music. Thanks y'all for keeping the fire alive.
Drum set adds a crazy amount of groove and feel. Major props to the 3 of these guys

The pocket is so tight. The mallets selections are so spot on. This made me fully regret no perusing my music degree.
I don't think it's ever too late to restart pursuing your music degree..if you love something go after it..

The use of drumset blends so well with what Ivan Trevino originally wrote, me and 2 seniors at our high school are getting ready to perform this in a few weeks and we gotta say nothing but thanks for producing this and putting it out there for us to find.

Yes! The snare tuning was kinda unique but I feel like it fit the style and groove really well. :)

Composer Ivan Trevino's 1983 Marimba duet, Catching Shadows, has been magically arranged by the percussion ensemble Trio Colores, by adding a trap set. After listening to the original version, which was outstanding on its own, I was won over by this augmented arrangement. Bravo Trio Colores musicians!
Catching Shadows was written in 2014. Trevino was born in 1983
I enjoyed this arrangement so much that, not only do I watch it daily, I just realized that it’s 8+ mins long. I got so lost in enjoying the piece that I never realized the length of it.
Both of my band teachers preformed this at a percussion ensemble we were at. It was a Saturday and it just made my day that he played the song (I loop the song about 10 times a day)
This was absolutely stunning. The music, the lighting, the camerawork, everything - insane!

Great Adaptation! I was in an ensemble that played the full sextet; and specifically enjoyed your version because of the blend between using original parts from the piece and the new ideas introduced in the Drumset part!

I watch this nearly every day, and love it. The collaboration between the musicians, their skill and talent...plus the video captures those nods and communication between the musicians. I have listened to other renderings of this piece but even the composer can't beat this performance of it.
Seriously loving the interpretation for the multi-percussion part. It’s by far the most complimentary and effective writing for Catching Shadows I’ve seen. Most importantly, well done with the keyboards, I’m in love with the mallet choices used in this performance.

this is a good way to reminisce about a fantastic piece i never got true closure on thanks to covid. the drumset part reminds me of a time i was playing along with my duet partner on drumset and playing some beats that really complimented certain parts of the mallet parts. thank you for this!

-I think when you hear the Trevino/Burritt original, and then the Eastman Percussion sextet version, it really cries for this kind of adaptation. The drummer to rock out! :)

jingshan zhao Hi! Thanks for watching our videos! Actually it‘s not really a snare drum. It‘s kind of a mini timbale with little snare wires underneath the top head from Meinl Percussion. The drum has no resoskin is super high tuned and littlebit muffled with a tissue. :) give it a try... stay tuned
