I thought I was the only one bothered by Legendary Dimitri's art, this artist did an amazing job on 3H, but on Heroes I much prefer the Brave and Fallen Dimitri.
Controversy time! When it comes to this series, I am not a fan of most of her work. Granted, she is quite skilled at drawing. Certainly a lot better than the stuff in the first two games and her designs look more modern than the ones in the SNES era games. Also, not even Legendary Dimitri is quite on the same level as truly bad stuff like the standard designs for Olivia, Cordelia, Ursula, Ogma, Jagen, Rebecca, Gwendolyn, Lloyd (easily the worst in Heroes), and summer Noire. However, I will say I find that many of her designs do not fit the series. If anything, the majority of her characters look more like they left the Shin Megami Tensei series. I feel she would get better work at Atlus. However, if you must know if there are any Three Houses character designs I conceptually like; those would be timeskip Claude, timeskip Dimitri, timeskip Edelgard, Bernadetta (both pre-timeskip and adult), timeskip Hilda, timeskip Marianne, timeskip Lysithea, and gatekeeper.
Conceptually, L!Dimitri has always felt out of place. High Lord Dimitri is generally the 'insane' personality and is redeemed along with his promotion. This latter is B!Dimitri. Legendary Dimitri is just a repeat to his B! alt when they definitely should've made him more deranged, of course it invalidates a F!Dimitri alt but I've always disliked his wasted potential. Especially since part 2 Dimitri is most recognised by his insanity but instead they do another redeemed Dimitri but somehow more bland...

My gripe with the Camilla one is that her arms are so skinny. Like mega frail looking. In her art in FEFates she at least has *_some_* muscle definition to justify her large bust and also how she's a axe wielding dragon rider. If she really had her arms that slim she would prolly be a healer.

Lloyd has the worst art out of any character in Fire Emblem Heroes. They massacred him and I'm waiting for an alt or a resplendent to possibly redeem the poor excuse that we have of him now.
Honestly, I feel like resplendents would be a lot better if they at least made the buffs free. Locking that behind a paywall is unacceptable. Every time I see or hear the word "resplendent", I get angry because of what IS pulled.
I agree with most of these, I honestly don't think Athena looks nearly as bad as Eliwood although it definitely took a while to grow on me, she definitely deserves a resplendent though. I was also surprised to see base Ninian on here as that's one of my favourite pieces of art in the game. My least favourite that isn't here is probably Petra, it just looks super off to me. The skin tone is too pale, her face just looks weird, like she shaved off her eyebrows and then drew them on again with a thin marker pen... It's not awful but as a huge Petra fan it does disappoint me a lot. That artist did go on to do Desert Nailah and Arete though, which are both solid, they've definitely improved since drawing Petra.
Well I don't exactly hate Ninian's art, I just said I wasn't a big fan of it lol, Elincia though... that's a different story. And yeah you're right, Petra is pretty bad but I didn't put her here cause every other character drawn by said artist is really solid
Personally don't see the hate for Eliwood/Athena's artist. It's heavily stylized, but is by no means bad on a technical level. Also - fun fact, the artist for them draws 4 unique poses. It's extremely subtle to tell the differences between the normal/special attack poses, but trust me it's there. Due to the more traditional art style, I imagine they traced over a sketch of the same pose twice, leading to very minor differences, but still 2 unique drawings nonetheless.
Arthur is one of the very few Fire Emblem character that makes any sense to draw in a super hero style. Also, I still think that Resplendent Male Robin is better than his standard design. Sure, it's not on the same standards as some truly great ones like Eldigan, Micaiah, Elincia, Chrom, Ishtar, Takumi, Tailtiu, Raven, and Niles. Or heck, even nice ones like Flornia, Minerva, Sanaki, Olwen, Delthea, Sophia, Linde, and Sothe. However, I do like the design enough.
For me, resplendent Robin is worse, I'd rather a somewhat generic but at least normal looking Robin over Mr. Jelly man Robin who looks silly as hell, especially with how self-satisfied he looks.
I feel like the aggression against gaou was really uncalled for. I checked their Twitter and I didn’t really find anything I’d classify as “loli shit” (unless you think cute anime girl=loli). They just have a very “moe” artstyle.
Yeah I completely agree, as someone who does has a ‘moe’ style & drawing just cute characters it’s insulting. Cause I actually kinda had someone basically tell me this with my Yor Forger drawing ‘why did you make her a loli’ or whatever. It’s just really frustrating sometimes
I personally think whoever did Lloyd's artwork in heroes actually committed the most atrocious war crime and IS is doubly wretched for not fixing it, heck even ALLOWING it in the game considering who originally drew him for fe7 but thats just me
I think it’s really cool to look at all 3 of Dimitri’s timeskip alts side-by-side. They each really capture where he is in his character arc. You’ve got Fallen who’s full-on revenge-consumed monster, Legendary who both looks and sounds very remorseful and conflicted, and then Brave who’s grown from his past and is now a confident leader. Feh did an awesome job of capturing all 3 of their demeanors imo.
As a Niles fan Im already a-okay with his art but I also do love Yura's way of drawing hair. I also do love Eliwood's art style for nostalgic reasons in the same way Bantu's artist is, but I get why people dislike it. Also YES thank you for defending Arthur! His art is so fitting for him and with the history that guy had working at IS, Arthur was realistically his only chance of ever getting to work on FEH. :c Comic book bold is cool
For me Arthur was designed with "the most american superhero" idea in mind, his art at the bare minimum deserved a mention cause I personally believe it's good

That way it wouldn't feel as, I dunno, de-aged(?) as it does and would be much more passable. Basically, I don't think her resplendent is entirely unredeemable, just that had the artist made some different calls on certain aspects in how her build looks it would have been much less disliked and would have fell more in line with her other arts.
@@EnergyBurst2 because it was in a completely different art style from an artist that can either draw really old looking characters or young looking ones. just look at etrian odyssey for instance, no one is calling their interpretation of the demi-fiend a little boy or something despite him and lucina being similar in age. either way, feh just showed thet you cant really do anything too interesting with the art, which is why so much of it is pretty standard with the occasional big titty girl to break the monotony.
14:53 just a little take on this. I don't think Asatani Tomoyo designed the characters (specifically the Legendary ones). I think IS have their own batch of Concept Artists that design these characters, and then they just ask artists like Tomoyo to draw the artwork based on the final concept. So I can't fault him for the similar-design problem
I wonder is there a confirmation on that? I imagine the artists get a certain limitation to keep the characters as accurate as possible, but it would be interesting to know if they get a concept art beforehand
I wasn’t too bothered by legendary Dimitri’s art, and I thought Muspell’s art was pretty cool. Gotta say, Eliwood and Athena’s art makes me wanna hurl. Artists in this game have a bad habit of making characters look younger than they actually are, which I think takes away from the character
As someone who loves Dimitri above all that is holy and +10'ed his Legendary alt, it pains me so much every single time I see his neutral art. Inhaling intense hopium because they fixed H!Azura's art. I'm really hoping INT$Y$ fixes his art too or give him a resplendent. I do not care if he's a legendary or that he's already broken. I just want good art.
I disagreed with a lot of it myself. I can at least agree that base Eliwood and Resplendent Lucina and Noire are not that good, but I don't think Camilla, Loki, Gordin, Kana, Robin, Dimitri or Athena look bad. And I don't really see a problem with artists using the same facial expressions since faces are pretty hard to draw properly and them having a signature expression or pose is kinda like them signing the image and making it memorable as theirs. Edit: I think Mathilda, Mae, and Clair look pretty good, and I also think that peri looks good, or at least as good as she can. Gwendolyn I think is also good even regarding the lack of armor cuz let's be real, fire emblem never cared about proper armor. Personally I believe resplendent Sanaki should be in this video cuz it's honestly a downgrade from her base art.
Yeah I think Dimitri’s art is actually beautiful. I personally like this artstyle; my only complaint is that it should’ve been for edgy Dimitri as the vibe it gives suits him more. I don’t like Clair’s but I also think Mathilda’s looks fine. For the ones I don’t like that aren’t mentioned, I think resplendent Marth’s looks too childish, which surprises me as Tobi made some beautiful art, like for Clive, Klein, and winter Bernie. Also prefer Azura’s original art over her resplendent though the resp version doesn’t look too bad.
It's so sad and perplexing that such a talented artist messed up so much with L!Dimitri. I'm theorizing that the artist was rushed to push out the art for the Legendary banner or something.
I actually love the Mae art, I run her as one of my mainstay counter characters. I think the look serves her personality fairly well, and just calling it "moe" does a disservice to the artist.
Personally my big least favourite for Heroes art is Genny, because I feel like aside from looking completely moefied, her energy is also completely shifted She really loses that introverted, sheepish look she has in Echoes only to get the energy of a peppy, noisy little sister character. Just doesn't feel right to me. You should put her Echoes and Heroes art next to each other and see just how much she barely feels like the same character... .... Also, bonus nitpick, Azama normally has a bit of sideburn beard growth, but Fates's style of shading makes it hard to see. As a result, it seems like almost every time anyone draws him they forget this detail.
Big agree on legendary dimitri. He looks really flat and dull, which could work if it went the full "dirty feral man who has given up" route, like how he is right after the timeskip, but they didn't go all the way in making him look grungy, depressed, and tired. The other versions succeed in making him more kingly and feral respectively, but legendary dimitri isn't giving us much personality. He isn't horrible, but definitely disappointing
I said "ew" out loud when I got Mae in Heroes lmao. The art itself isn't even that bad and I like the colors, but the face looks too generic and the over-emphasis on the boob armor when she looks like a child grossed me out

I’m so bad at seeing small details so when I see characters like that who have multiple versions that look super similar, I literally can’t tell a difference 😭 I think I have the same problem with some of Edelgard’s arts

Idm Mae's design so much, as in the end its her personality that I like, but with Lucina, the loli-ness is wayyy too overflowing and hard to ignore and creeps me out, especially knowing that this is a specific change to her normal teen/adult body.
Yeah. Mae doesn’t really come off as “Loli” to me. She has definable breasts and doesn’t really have anything I would call “Loli” besides being cute. She’s honestly not too different from her original art. Lucina, on the other hand. Just a casual search of the artist on gelbooru revealed that the dude is a hardcore lolicon. I really like his style for the Etrian Odyssey games but he probably shouldn’t have done Lucina’s art.
Hot take: the "artstyle clashes too much" reason for Arthur's art being the worst is complete bullshit. We've got art with bad anatomy, bad color palletes, and bad designs, but ya'll wanna say Arthur's art is worse because it doesn't fit the aesthetic? I even heard "it doesn't fit with fire emblem" on a different list of this subject, which is even more laughable. "This artsyle looks nothing like the Fire Emblem aestethic and doesn't fit the brand, so it's bad". Oh yes, because Fire Emblem was totally known for settings with fairies, steampunk, and whatever's going on with book 6! None of that clashes too much with Fire Emblem, but an artstyle that's not anime-esque does? Bull. Shit. If you disagree with my take, that's fine. But if you want to convince me that Arthur's art is worse than Bath Camilla's bad anatomy or Zaza's bland faces, I want to see a real case for it, not a nitpick.
I don't really have an artist I dislike but one I really love is tobi (mostly because I really like kliff) but they made some really good art and of course hidari makes really good art too

I think Arthur’s supposed to have the heavy lines because he looks like a comic book character. Maybe like Superman or Captain America. He even acts like a corny superhero
As an artist, I totally loved a lot of the art you didnt, because it features a lot of really amazing feats that show the artists are proficient in their styles and show off a lot of really impressive technique. But I just now realized that.... Just because its impressive to me because I can understand the process behind it, doesnt mean people who dont do art professionally will still think it looks like shit - because to them, it does. Its kind of like how you'll get super profound movies with really strange shots that are impressive and technical and fun to analyze for film buffs, but nobody else is enjoying it. Totally taking this idea and doing it myself
Legendary Dimitri is a real head-scratcher because the artist did the art for 3H and she was really good. It looks to me as if she was only did it either for appearance or for some quick cash. I mean, the "X" cut on his armor looks sooooo bad and his weapon looks awful. If we can complain about Tomoyo's Eirika being cloned (with changes) 3 times, let me point toward the blatant copy-pasta jobs of Olwen and Reinhard 😳 Overall, one thing that I cannot stand in FEH is making characters younger than they are. Resplendent Lucina is very very bad, Catria is very bad, Lachesis is horrible.
In regards to other artwork for the sequel, you really need to cover Ursula's standard design. The artist for that focused too much on her beauty and ironically messed up her face as a result. At least her summer alt fixed that and gave her a rather haunting looking special. There aren't really a whole lot in Fire Emblem Heroes I truly have a strong dislike or even hate towards. However, there are meh designs (in my eye) that I could also see making it into this video series. Designs I either know are hated or I suspect are hated. Those being Surtr's regular design (conceptually he is fine, but could definitely use some refinement; at least his pirate alt is better), summer Lorenz (his pre timeskip design will never look appealing; so his summer alt is hardly any worse), summer Ingrid, resplendent Reinhardt, standard Odin (even though his design was ironically always a step down from how he looked back in Awakening), standard Henry (at least he has great alts), standard Sanaki, standard Lyon, standard Tailtiu, Arden (even if I find his face to be epic), standard Sophia, standard Hector, standard Raven, standard Micaiah (ironic too, as she is one of the most beautiful women in the series), standard Chrom, standard Corrin (both; at least they actually have good alts), standard Eldigan (at least he has spectacular alts), standard Takumi, standard Leo, standard Quan, masquerade Quan, and spring Tharja (she looks kinda off; though some would probably claim that was the point. At least spring Sonya on the other hand looks great). Heck, I could see resplendent Alm, resplendent Julia (though I do like the special art), resplendent Aqua, and Supreme Samurai Ryoma making it in just for looking a bit too similar to their regular designs. Even if I personally don't see any of these as bad in their own right.
Where’s Summer Caeda? That’s easily the worst art in the game for me. I don’t know what went wrong, but I seen fan art that looks way better than this… It just looks so cheap and lifeless, and well below standards.
i think that Arthur was made to look like a old comic book hero because he kinda is, hopefully he gets a resplendent to give him something more in line with the rest of the game.

I LOVE Yamada's art. People just hate it because it isn't the hyper-flashy anime garbage that most FeH characters are drawn as. Yamada also draws 4 poses per character instead of 3 with an edit, which is respectable. I won't just sit here and excuse blatant anatomical mistakes - HOWEVER, I think some of the weird anatomy combined with the old style reminds me of Medieval drawings of people. Definitely agree it doesn't fit the rest of FeH, but is that so bad?
How about a video that focuses on the former rather on the later? There is so much good art pieces in that game. Honestly I feel like its a very objective topic, considering many artists got shit on just because their art doesn't fit the character while having incredibly amazing art, like Mae for example. It should always be taken into consideration that IntSys is the one reaching out to the artists commissioning the art and not the artist choosing for which character they draw it and for heroes exclusive characters most of the time they have to stick to a very strict character sheet/sketch/idea. As an artist myself I believe a much more interesting and respectful way of making a video like this would be perhaps showing the character with unfitting art and propose a different heroes artist that should have drawn it or proposing different characters the unfit artist perhaps could have represented better. Like Resp. Lucinas artist perhaps being much better off with lets say, Male Kana in the future as additional character or just sticking to Fae, who they actually draw incredibly good in my opinion. Other than that, keep your humor, its very funny to watch! :)
“Azura, a character I hate.” Finally, someone else that hates her as much as I do. I’ll always have Fates as my guilty pleasure game (don’t even bother trying to tell me that my opinion is trash because I know it has problems, but I just cannot bring myself to hate it), but I just hate how they portray Azura as a Mary Sue, the character type that is universally despised.
I just don't like how Fates paints her as this incredible character without flaws but is incredibly boring, has no charm and is only there to find the most convenient solution to the plot's obstacles
Legendary Dimitri’s attack and special art are good, especially the special art (I love it so much that I daresay it surpasses his brave and fallen versions), but goddamn that idle art is terrible. His lance looks like a banana, his head is photoshopped to his neck, the body is flatter than Lucina’s chest, and his torso might as well be one of a dwarf. Just awful. His damaged art is close to being ok, but I feel like it could’ve been better with a few more artistic touches.
Noire's artwork, which the only one in Heroes is her Summer outfit, is real bad anatomy. Worst part is it's from an official Intelligence Systems employee. How the hell did this happen
The art that baffles me to this day, is the Summoning altar itself. It looks like a tentacular alien with a huge brain, evil eyes, a skull-like hole for a nose, and claws on the side. It's probably supposed to depict Yggdrasil, being a world-tree connecting realities together, but did nobody really catch it before approval? It's been 5 years and I still can't unsee it!
Time to judge this properly. As an artist I want to see your takes on the flaws of the characters, so I'll edit this comment as soon as I finish the video. ALSO just for you information, I have NO IDEA about FE because I haven't played a game, so this is my take of the characters without knowing about them at all. Edit: Time for Judgment. With Eliwood I agree, it seems like the art is dissonant (for the lack of a better word), I think the artist had in mind to evoke the feeling of an old illustration form a snes game, since the painting reminds me of the character portraits of FF7, also, the eyes are weird since they are not balanced with the artstyle, it's not only you. Besides that, the whole piece is not bad, it's pretty good, ngl. With Mae I have some mixed feelings. I see what you mean but in this case it could be the fact that she's an older character and because moeshit sales, that's the main reason why she got lolified. I don't like huge boobas on super small waist characters that look like they're 12, so, that's a personal no for me, but at the end of the day, they prolly wanted to make it appealing for younger players of FEH, so I understand the reasoning behind the art. I 100% agree with the lucina one, IT'S FUCKING GORGEOUS but why make her look like a child who is just becoming a teenager? why? Elincia, sorry but not really. I agree, she looks like she's a teenager but, it's just a personal preference on style, the art is not bad, maybe the colors are too washed out I guess? but overall it's on point on how a character who looks like a warrior should look like, just a tiny bit innocent and moe influenced. Rebecca looks like it belongs to another game, not even the eyes, it really looks different, Eliwood vibes about her, nope. Gordin for me looks like an Archer Kirito, and I hate Kirito, too much Garu Stu vibes, you can see on the generic anime protag who is overpowered for literally no reason whatsoever, I don't like it and I guess this is your reason subconsciously. Matilda is just personal bias, I see that in the original art, there's a few instances of textures here and there, and also the same issue you had, every art you judged so far as lifeless is basically bland colors to the illustration, the poses are better and have more expression than just a girl standing there, menacingly (?) At least in every art I've seen about him he looks like being meguca is suffering, which is nice. Also you like the other one because of the saturated effects, and saturated colors, change my mind. Gwendolyn is shit. Huge ass armor for that tiny waist? no balance in the composition? no thanks, bye. Clair: Too simplistic, lack of the vibes it gave on their original illustration, looks like a different character tbh. Booba girls too boring 4 me, lack of hornyness. They are barely clothed and they are mid to me, so no. PUNKSTERNE POPPING OFF, GO OFF SIS! And yeah, same. Looks like it's lifeless. Child corrin guy? no. IT's trying too much to be interesting? thanks but no Arthur looks like a walmart all might, NEXT. Ryoma doesn't look bad? But that was a fun addition so I'll give you a pass on him. Hotspring Camilla is the definition of Tits McGee, moving on. Musphel is not bad, but again, I have the same issue with the Eliwood syndrome: HE BELONGS IN A DIFFERENT GAME, the artstyle is way too different, he looks like a character from FGO tbh. Valentine Robin should be the default, change my mind. Legendary Dimitri looks like his eye is half hanging off his face, I hate it. I do like the moe style, it makes sense to me if the character is young or supposed to be cute, like Nino. But for characters that are supposed to look powerful or regal, like Elincia, it doesn't fit and it's a let down. I don't like Resplendent Lucina's art, it doesn't fit her in my opinion, but at least it is an alternate costume that can be turned off. And I totally agree on Summer Noire and Spring Loki. I would like to add Hostile Springs Ryoma to that list, especially his hurt art; he looks like a caveman. :p
I do not hate Moe as a whole, but I have a strong dislike for when artists use Moe to hide what is awful art. Like for example as I said on the video, like the artist has a same-face syndrome I still really like their Ninos, Myrrhs or Lysitheas, they fit so well with the characters And yeah! I also hate Hot Springs Ryoma, easily PenekoR's worst job and I really like that artist
glad you touched on Navarre at the end, he's supposed to look cool and edgy, but instead he looks like some edgy cosplayer instead and the shine on his hair makes it look incredibly oily imo. Ninja Navarre just makes me hate the OG art more because his ninja alt is exactly what he should've looked like.

I hard agree with the Clair art. She's so elegant and graceful in her SoV art but Clair in heroes is really bland and I don't really like her face. I'm hoping she gets a resplendent to give her fairy wings to reference her official art and to fix her face
I’ll only say a few things: bug eyes is the first thing that comes to mind with Rebecca, toothless old man is what comes to mind when I see Lloyd, and Arthur looks ugly while trying to be Discount All Might from My Hero Academia.
I am one of those people who didn't think Lloyd looked that bad. Maybe his color palate needs to be darker but aside from that he was alright. But Fck Muspell and Nifl's arts, I refused to believe it was the official release until I saw them in game, which honestly sucks because I liked N!Laevatin art. Yura's art on the other hand. I LOVE the Navarre art so much I think it's the best art they made, every other character looks rather average. Except for Niles, I dunno what happened but they fcked his skin tone really bad.
I like OG Caeda's art. So it makes me sad that anytime it's talked about it's only because of the special art. Yes it's lazy but to rank the art as a whole among the worst in the game just because of that feels kind of unfair. It looks good besides that imo.

I have (i think) all of them that look super similar, and I always get mixed up because they literally wear the same outfits, so I have to go by weapon type, which I usually pair with the art in my memory so I usually just spend 30 minutes looking for the right one.
EDIT: Ok I didn't watch the whole video, thank you for including them. Their art physically hurts to look at. Why aren't we talking about Ueda Yumehito (who drew OG F!Robin and Cordelia)? Their art is plain bad from a technical standpoint. The anatomy is awful. I looked at my old folders and their art is comparable to the art I made when I was 13 or 14.
For Arthur I can get the idea behind it, he's supposed to have this comic book art style. Mainly because he acts like a superhero. Though I still admit I get why people would say it feels "off" compared to most FEH art.
I was gonna comment all the ones I disagree with but the list got way too long. For now, I'll just say Athena >> Eliwood, base Elincia is great, Clarisse is good, and I can't see Amagaitaro's same face problem. Plus, Asatani Tomoyo is the most prolific artist in Heroes. I think Legendary Eirika captures the proper vibe for a Legendary perfectly. It's like the base form but more standout in every way. At least we are all united by Lloyd. Also, huge shoutouts to Yamada Akihiro for being the only artist to draw 4 separate poses, and Kozaki for innovation by making the special and attack poses different and attack and damage share a pose.

I actually like her outfit. It fits her as a character and it would look quite good on regular Lucina. However, I can certainly understand people really not liking Resplendent Lucina. Easily the one Achilles heel with the design is the major age regression. While this version of Lucina would have looked at home in Etrian Odyssey (and that's even assuming that Etrian Odyssey gets a reboot; with a different main artist to boot. Though imagining the series without dual screen functions is difficult), it does not fit in Fire Emblem Heroes.
15:22 I have this problem with Dimitri's and Claude' alts, too. I can't stand Zaza's art and I'm very glad s/he hasn't returned to FEH. On the other hand, I couldn't disagree more about Yura, who is one of my favorite FEH artists. Reyson, Leanne, Navarre and Shigure are absolutely gorgeous and among my favorite character art in FEH. Normal Niles and Subaki are the only characters drawn by Yura who I don't like. Niles looks like he came back from the dead and Subaki is too angular.
Hard agree on Winter Hilda being one of the best artworks in the game. Not only is she a fantastic unit, but she was available at 4 stars. Holy hell, wish FEH did that stuff more often. But some other good art, Fallen Berkut (Even the sprite is fantastic). Brave Camilla I think is her best alt, the outfit and poses are gorgeous. Legendary Edelgard has absolutely beautiful artwork. Pirate Surtr is just amazing. Resp. Eldigan and uhhhhh.... Summer Freyja for.... reasons... As for the disagreements. I kinda personally like Mae, but that's probably just because I'm a fan of the pink twintails. I also don't think Athena is that bad. Eliwood is awful, for sure, but Athena it's mostly just the eyes that are bad, the rest is pretty good imo. And I also personally disagree with Mathilda, her other ones could use some work but I think the portrait is quite nice. I agree with everything else though. Last note. I really want a Peri Resp.... please. She really REALLY needs one.

Kippu is my number one favourite FEH artist and I do agree that she has improved as the game went on. Summer Gunnthra is still my favourite to this day.
I used to have a bad impression of Kippu that at first I couldn't believe Duo Peony was drawn by her Kippu totally won me over with Valentine's Sonya, incredible in every single aspect

I am genuenly surprised that so many people hated legendary Dimitri's art. I prefer that one over the brave by a lot. Also, there's a unit that surprisingly isn't in the video, but everytime I summon causes me to feel violent towards it. I DON'T KNOW WHY. It's Bartre's art. I can't stand it.

Bro, agreed on most of these except one thing that didn't get mentioned. I think Mila has the worst art in the entirety of heroes. Went from Shadows' amazing art to a Michael Jackson/DK looking ass moldy potato hand Kremlin.
At least one thing I do like about Mila's design is that when you compare her with Duma's regular design, you get a rather different feeling from both characters. Besides, there are worse designs. Lloyd's design is easily the worst in the game. We also have Cordelia's standard design, standard Olivia (her Performing Arts design is a big improvement), standard Gwendolyn, standard Rebecca, Miyu Athena&Eliwood (ironically, I like the watery color pencil look. What ruined the two pieces are their faces), kawaii Lachesis (I may not be a fan of hers, but even I know she is supposed to be genuinely proud and tough. Even when she was younger, I can't imagine her having ever been all that cute), standard Ursula (at least her summer alt fixed her face and the art for her special looks rather haunting with the jellyfish in the background), and summer Noire. Heck, the artist who drew Mila has easily done worse. Ogma and Jagen are his worst in this game.

I'll be honest I was holding my breath worrying if mah boi Merric was gonna show up in this list since I recall his base art getting made fun of for looking like a cereal mascot or something back in the day even though I thought it looked fine, glad to see he did not get mentioned. I will say I think Linde and Ninian looked fine, but do agree about Elincia, however I dunno maybe it's due to never playing Shadows of Valentia, but I always liked Mai's art and even seeing her official art that you showed I still think she looks fine in FEH especially when put up against many of the other character arts in this video, also I never disliked Male Robin's arts, but I do think base Male Grima's could have been done better. Save maybe the Ninja art I've never much cared for Camilla or her various alt arts, but on the topic of hot springs Camilla, I think what bugs me about the art and is the main issue that makes it look bad is how Small her head seems since it makes the whole art look really off kilter to the point of ruining it. I'll also say that I think it's very interesting that so many of Eirika's arts are just her in the same outfit, but a slightly different art style, since it feels realistic even if that realistic aspect isn't well suited for a gacha game like FEH, also on the topic of Arthur I think his comic book art style look is really neat and in a vacuum doesn't look bad at all, but that it does clash with the general style of pretty much every other unit and the game itself which makes it almost unpleasant to look at.
I think you have some pretty bold opinions. I disagree with Dimitri, but a lot of the others I can really get behind. You also love Christmas Hilda, which makes you a gentleman and a scholar.

I agree with most of this video, but I would include Cuboon, but only his most recent art. Compare his latest piece, New Year's Dagr (I believe), with one of his earlier pieces, base Palla, there is a degradation in his art and I hate it, I preferred it when there was more depth to his art than just making the booba extra big and shiny, or when the colors were much more varied and colorful. Maybe it's because I do art myself so I can recognize it easier, but how much his art has changed makes me sad, I miss his old art :( (Ps Me encanta ver otros Fehtubers que hablan español, excelente video en general! I thought I was the only one bothered by Legendary Dimitri's art, this artist did an amazing job on 3H, but on Heroes I much prefer the Brave and Fallen Dimitri.
Controversy time! When it comes to this series, I am not a fan of most of her work. Granted, she is quite skilled at drawing. Certainly a lot better than the stuff in the first two games and her designs look more modern than the ones in the SNES era games. Also, not even Legendary Dimitri is quite on the same level as truly bad stuff like the standard designs for Olivia, Cordelia, Ursula, Ogma, Jagen, Rebecca, Gwendolyn, Lloyd (easily the worst in Heroes), and summer Noire.
However, I will say I find that many of her designs do not fit the series. If anything, the majority of her characters look more like they left the Shin Megami Tensei series. I feel she would get better work at Atlus. However, if you must know if there are any Three Houses character designs I conceptually like; those would be timeskip Claude, timeskip Dimitri, timeskip Edelgard, Bernadetta (both pre-timeskip and adult), timeskip Hilda, timeskip Marianne, timeskip Lysithea, and gatekeeper.
Conceptually, L!Dimitri has always felt out of place. High Lord Dimitri is generally the 'insane' personality and is redeemed along with his promotion. This latter is B!Dimitri. Legendary Dimitri is just a repeat to his B! alt when they definitely should've made him more deranged, of course it invalidates a F!Dimitri alt but I've always disliked his wasted potential. Especially since part 2 Dimitri is most recognised by his insanity but instead they do another redeemed Dimitri but somehow more bland...

My gripe with the Camilla one is that her arms are so skinny. Like mega frail looking. In her art in FEFates she at least has *_some_* muscle definition to justify her large bust and also how she's a axe wielding dragon rider. If she really had her arms that slim she would prolly be a healer.

Honestly, I feel like resplendents would be a lot better if they at least made the buffs free. Locking that behind a paywall is unacceptable. Every time I see or hear the word "resplendent", I get angry because of what IS pulled.

I agree with most of these, I honestly don't think Athena looks nearly as bad as Eliwood although it definitely took a while to grow on me, she definitely deserves a resplendent though. I was also surprised to see base Ninian on here as that's one of my favourite pieces of art in the game.
My least favourite that isn't here is probably Petra, it just looks super off to me. The skin tone is too pale, her face just looks weird, like she shaved off her eyebrows and then drew them on again with a thin marker pen... It's not awful but as a huge Petra fan it does disappoint me a lot. That artist did go on to do Desert Nailah and Arete though, which are both solid, they've definitely improved since drawing Petra.
Well I don't exactly hate Ninian's art, I just said I wasn't a big fan of it lol, Elincia though... that's a different story. And yeah you're right, Petra is pretty bad but I didn't put her here cause every other character drawn by said artist is really solid

Personally don't see the hate for Eliwood/Athena's artist. It's heavily stylized, but is by no means bad on a technical level. Also - fun fact, the artist for them draws 4 unique poses. It's extremely subtle to tell the differences between the normal/special attack poses, but trust me it's there. Due to the more traditional art style, I imagine they traced over a sketch of the same pose twice, leading to very minor differences, but still 2 unique drawings nonetheless.

Arthur is one of the very few Fire Emblem character that makes any sense to draw in a super hero style.
Also, I still think that Resplendent Male Robin is better than his standard design. Sure, it's not on the same standards as some truly great ones like Eldigan, Micaiah, Elincia, Chrom, Ishtar, Takumi, Tailtiu, Raven, and Niles. Or heck, even nice ones like Flornia, Minerva, Sanaki, Olwen, Delthea, Sophia, Linde, and Sothe. However, I do like the design enough.
For me, resplendent Robin is worse, I'd rather a somewhat generic but at least normal looking Robin over Mr. Jelly man Robin who looks silly as hell, especially with how self-satisfied he looks.

I think it’s really cool to look at all 3 of Dimitri’s timeskip alts side-by-side. They each really capture where he is in his character arc. You’ve got Fallen who’s full-on revenge-consumed monster, Legendary who both looks and sounds very remorseful and conflicted, and then Brave who’s grown from his past and is now a confident leader. Feh did an awesome job of capturing all 3 of their demeanors imo.

As a Niles fan Im already a-okay with his art but I also do love Yura's way of drawing hair. I also do love Eliwood's art style for nostalgic reasons in the same way Bantu's artist is, but I get why people dislike it.

14:53 just a little take on this. I don't think Asatani Tomoyo designed the characters (specifically the Legendary ones). I think IS have their own batch of Concept Artists that design these characters, and then they just ask artists like Tomoyo to draw the artwork based on the final concept. So I can't fault him for the similar-design problem

I imagine the artists get a certain limitation to keep the characters as accurate as possible, but it would be interesting to know if they get a concept art beforehand

As someone who loves Dimitri above all that is holy and +10'ed his Legendary alt, it pains me so much every single time I see his neutral art. Inhaling intense hopium because they fixed H!Azura's art. I'm really hoping INT$Y$ fixes his art too or give him a resplendent.
I do not care if he's a legendary or that he's already broken. I just want good art.

I can at least agree that base Eliwood and Resplendent Lucina and Noire are not that good, but I don't think Camilla, Loki, Gordin, Kana, Robin, Dimitri or Athena look bad.
And I don't really see a problem with artists using the same facial expressions since faces are pretty hard to draw properly and them having a signature expression or pose is kinda like them signing the image and making it memorable as theirs.
Edit: I think Mathilda, Mae, and Clair look pretty good, and I also think that peri looks good, or at least as good as she can.
Gwendolyn I think is also good even regarding the lack of armor cuz let's be real, fire emblem never cared about proper armor.
Personally I believe resplendent Sanaki should be in this video cuz it's honestly a downgrade from her base art.

For the ones I don’t like that aren’t mentioned, I think resplendent Marth’s looks too childish, which surprises me as Tobi made some beautiful art, like for Clive, Klein, and winter Bernie. Also prefer Azura’s original art over her resplendent though the resp version doesn’t look too bad.

Big agree on legendary dimitri. He looks really flat and dull, which could work if it went the full "dirty feral man who has given up" route, like how he is right after the timeskip, but they didn't go all the way in making him look grungy, depressed, and tired. The other versions succeed in making him more kingly and feral respectively, but legendary dimitri isn't giving us much personality. He isn't horrible, but definitely disappointing

"This artsyle looks nothing like the Fire Emblem aestethic and doesn't fit the brand, so it's bad". As an artist, I totally loved a lot of the art you didnt, because it features a lot of really amazing feats that show the artists are proficient in their styles and show off a lot of really impressive technique. But I just now realized that.... Just because its impressive to me because I can understand the process behind it, doesnt mean people who dont do art professionally will still think it looks like shit - because to them, it does.
Its kind of like how you'll get super profound movies with really strange shots that are impressive and technical and fun to analyze for film buffs, but nobody else is enjoying it.

Legendary Dimitri is a real head-scratcher because the artist did the art for 3H and she was really good. It looks to me as if she was only did it either for appearance or for some quick cash. I mean, the "X" cut on his armor looks sooooo bad and his weapon looks awful.

Overall, one thing that I cannot stand in FEH is making characters younger than they are. Resplendent Lucina is very very bad, Catria is very bad, Lachesis is horrible.

In regards to other artwork for the sequel, you really need to cover Ursula's standard design. The artist for that focused too much on her beauty and ironically messed up her face as a result. At least her summer alt fixed that and gave her a rather haunting looking special.
There aren't really a whole lot in Fire Emblem Heroes I truly have a strong dislike or even hate towards. However, there are meh designs (in my eye) that I could also see making it into this video series. Designs I either know are hated or I suspect are hated. Those being Surtr's regular design (conceptually he is fine, but could definitely use some refinement; at least his pirate alt is better), summer Lorenz (his pre timeskip design will never look appealing; so his summer alt is hardly any worse), summer Ingrid, resplendent Reinhardt, standard Odin (even though his design was ironically always a step down from how he looked back in Awakening), standard Henry (at least he has great alts), standard Sanaki, standard Lyon, standard Tailtiu, Arden (even if I find his face to be epic), standard Sophia, standard Hector, standard Raven, standard Micaiah (ironic too, as she is one of the most beautiful women in the series), standard Chrom, standard Corrin (both; at least they actually have good alts), standard Eldigan (at least he has spectacular alts), standard Takumi, standard Leo, standard Quan, masquerade Quan, and spring Tharja (she looks kinda off; though some would probably claim that was the point. At least spring Sonya on the other hand looks great).
Heck, I could see resplendent Alm, resplendent Julia (though I do like the special art), resplendent Aqua, and Supreme Samurai Ryoma making it in just for looking a bit too similar to their regular designs. Even if I personally don't see any of these as bad in their own right.

I LOVE Yamada's art. People just hate it because it isn't the hyper-flashy anime garbage that most FeH characters are drawn as. Yamada also draws 4 poses per character instead of 3 with an edit, which is respectable. I won't just sit here and excuse blatant anatomical mistakes - HOWEVER, I think some of the weird anatomy combined with the old style reminds me of Medieval drawings of people. Definitely agree it doesn't fit the rest of FeH, but is that so bad?

Honestly I feel like its a very objective topic, considering many artists got shit on just because their art doesn't fit the character while having incredibly amazing art, like Mae for example. It should always be taken into consideration that IntSys is the one reaching out to the artists commissioning the art and not the artist choosing for which character they draw it and for heroes exclusive characters most of the time they have to stick to a very strict character sheet/sketch/idea. As an artist myself I believe a much more interesting and respectful way of making a video like this would be perhaps showing the character with unfitting art and propose a different heroes artist that should have drawn it or proposing different characters the unfit artist perhaps could have represented better. Like Resp. Lucinas artist perhaps being much better off with lets say, Male Kana in the future as additional character or just sticking to Fae, who they actually draw incredibly good in my opinion.
Other than that, keep your humor, its very funny to watch! :)

Finally, someone else that hates her as much as I do. I’ll always have Fates as my guilty pleasure game (don’t even bother trying to tell me that my opinion is trash because I know it has problems, but I just cannot bring myself to hate it), but I just hate how they portray Azura as a Mary Sue, the character type that is universally despised.
I just don't like how Fates paints her as this incredible character without flaws but is incredibly boring, has no charm and is only there to find the most convenient solution to the plot's obstacles
Legendary Dimitri’s attack and special art are good, especially the special art (I love it so much that I daresay it surpasses his brave and fallen versions), but goddamn that idle art is terrible. His lance looks like a banana, his head is photoshopped to his neck, the body is flatter than Lucina’s chest, and his torso might as well be one of a dwarf. Just awful. His damaged art is close to being ok, but I feel like it could’ve been better with a few more artistic touches.
Noire's artwork, which the only one in Heroes is her Summer outfit, is real bad anatomy. Worst part is it's from an official Intelligence Systems employee. How the hell did this happen
The art that baffles me to this day, is the Summoning altar itself. It looks like a tentacular alien with a huge brain, evil eyes, a skull-like hole for a nose, and claws on the side.
It's probably supposed to depict Yggdrasil, being a world-tree connecting realities together, but did nobody really catch it before approval? It's been 5 years and I still can't unsee it!

With Eliwood I agree, it seems like the art is dissonant (for the lack of a better word), I think the artist had in mind to evoke the feeling of an old illustration form a snes game, since the painting reminds me of the character portraits of FF7, also, the eyes are weird since they are not balanced with the artstyle, it's not only you. Besides that, the whole piece is not bad, it's pretty good, ngl.
With Mae I have some mixed feelings. I see what you mean but in this case it could be the fact that she's an older character and because moeshit sales, that's the main reason why she got lolified. I don't like huge boobas on super small waist characters that look like they're 12, so, that's a personal no for me, but at the end of the day, they prolly wanted to make it appealing for younger players of FEH, so I understand the reasoning behind the art.
I 100% agree with the lucina one, IT'S FUCKING GORGEOUS but why make her look like a child who is just becoming a teenager? why?

I agree, she looks like she's a teenager but, it's just a personal preference on style, the art is not bad, maybe the colors are too washed out I guess? but overall it's on point on how a character who looks like a warrior should look like, just a tiny bit innocent and moe influenced.
Rebecca looks like it belongs to another game, not even the eyes, it really looks different, Eliwood vibes about her, nope.
Gordin for me looks like an Archer Kirito, and I hate Kirito, too much Garu Stu vibes, you can see on the generic anime protag who is overpowered for literally no reason whatsoever, I don't like it and I guess this is your reason subconsciously.
Matilda is just personal bias, I see that in the original art, there's a few instances of textures here and there, and also the same issue you had, every art you judged so far as lifeless is basically bland colors to the illustration, the poses are better and have more expression than just a girl standing there, menacingly (?)

Legendary Dimitri looks like his eye is half hanging off his face, I hate it.
I do like the moe style, it makes sense to me if the character is young or supposed to be cute, like Nino. But for characters that are supposed to look powerful or regal, like Elincia, it doesn't fit and it's a let down. I don't like Resplendent Lucina's art, it doesn't fit her in my opinion, but at least it is an alternate costume that can be turned off.
And I totally agree on Summer Noire and Spring Loki. I would like to add Hostile Springs Ryoma to that list, especially his hurt art; he looks like a caveman. :p
I do not hate Moe as a whole, but I have a strong dislike for when artists use Moe to hide what is awful art. Like for example as I said on the video, like the artist has a same-face syndrome I still really like their Ninos, Myrrhs or Lysitheas, they fit so well with the characters

I am one of those people who didn't think Lloyd looked that bad. Maybe his color palate needs to be darker but aside from that he was alright. But Fck Muspell and Nifl's arts, I refused to believe it was the official release until I saw them in game, which honestly sucks because I liked N!Laevatin art.
Yura's art on the other hand. I LOVE the Navarre art so much I think it's the best art they made, every other character looks rather average. Except for Niles, I dunno what happened but they fcked his skin tone really bad.
I like OG Caeda's art. So it makes me sad that anytime it's talked about it's only because of the special art. Yes it's lazy but to rank the art as a whole among the worst in the game just because of that feels kind of unfair. It looks good besides that imo.

I just realized taht I don't dislike many heroes art only some that you pointed out like Loki, resplendant lucina and robin and original eliwood. Even though I understand many of your pics.

I have (i think) all of them that look super similar, and I always get mixed up because they literally wear the same outfits, so I have to go by weapon type, which I usually pair with the art in my memory so I usually just spend 30 minutes looking for the right one.
EDIT: Ok I didn't watch the whole video, thank you for including them. Their art physically hurts to look at.
Why aren't we talking about Ueda Yumehito (who drew OG F!Robin and Cordelia)? Their art is plain bad from a technical standpoint. The anatomy is awful. I looked at my old folders and their art is comparable to the art I made when I was 13 or 14.
For Arthur I can get the idea behind it, he's supposed to have this comic book art style. Mainly because he acts like a superhero.
Though I still admit I get why people would say it feels "off" compared to most FEH art.
I was gonna comment all the ones I disagree with but the list got way too long. For now, I'll just say Athena >> Eliwood, base Elincia is great, Clarisse is good, and I can't see Amagaitaro's same face problem. Plus, Asatani Tomoyo is the most prolific artist in Heroes. I think Legendary Eirika captures the proper vibe for a Legendary perfectly. It's like the base form but more standout in every way. At least we are all united by Lloyd.
Also, huge shoutouts to Yamada Akihiro for being the only artist to draw 4 separate poses, and Kozaki for innovation by making the special and attack poses different and attack and damage share a pose.
7:26 Funny, I got Inigo and Shigure, TRYING to get Azura, on that banner. Inigo on both the first and second time, Shigure on the second time, and Azura on the third time that banner showed up!
When Matthew attacks his art is ugly for me, I like the character but i can`t use it, because I always play with the animations

Art is subjective. No art is ever truly bad. And unfortunately you seem to not understand that.
I just found the Book 5 characters as really ugly. The 3D type art felt like looking at a poor render.
The only one who stood out to me was Otr.

I have bought every single resplendent, and the only character I still use the original art for is lucina because hers is so bad
I actually like her outfit. It fits her as a character and it would look quite good on regular Lucina. However, I can certainly understand people really not liking Resplendent Lucina. Easily the one Achilles heel with the design is the major age regression. While this version of Lucina would have looked at home in Etrian Odyssey (and that's even assuming that Etrian Odyssey gets a reboot; with a different main artist to boot. Though imagining the series without dual screen functions is difficult), it does not fit in Fire Emblem Heroes.

I can't stand Zaza's art and I'm very glad s/he hasn't returned to FEH. On the other hand, I couldn't disagree more about Yura, who is one of my favorite FEH artists. Reyson, Leanne, Navarre and Shigure are absolutely gorgeous and among my favorite character art in FEH. Normal Niles and Subaki are the only characters drawn by Yura who I don't like. Niles looks like he came back from the dead and Subaki is too angular.

Hard agree on Winter Hilda being one of the best artworks in the game. Not only is she a fantastic unit, but she was available at 4 stars. Holy hell, wish FEH did that stuff more often.
But some other good art, Fallen Berkut (Even the sprite is fantastic). Brave Camilla I think is her best alt, the outfit and poses are gorgeous. Legendary Edelgard has absolutely beautiful artwork. Pirate Surtr is just amazing. Resp. Eldigan and uhhhhh.... Summer Freyja for.... reasons...
As for the disagreements. I kinda personally like Mae, but that's probably just because I'm a fan of the pink twintails. I also don't think Athena is that bad. Eliwood is awful, for sure, but Athena it's mostly just the eyes that are bad, the rest is pretty good imo. And I also personally disagree with Mathilda, her other ones could use some work but I think the portrait is quite nice. I agree with everything else though.
Last note. I really want a Peri Resp.... please. She really REALLY needs one.

Kippu is my number one favourite FEH artist and I do agree that she has improved as the game went on. Summer Gunnthra is still my favourite to this day.
I used to have a bad impression of Kippu that at first I couldn't believe Duo Peony was drawn by her

I am genuenly surprised that so many people hated legendary Dimitri's art. I prefer that one over the brave by a lot.
Also, there's a unit that surprisingly isn't in the video, but everytime I summon causes me to feel violent towards it. I DON'T KNOW WHY. It's Bartre's art. I can't stand it.
I mean, it's normal for the majority of people to not have shit taste.

Bro, agreed on most of these except one thing that didn't get mentioned. I think Mila has the worst art in the entirety of heroes. Went from Shadows' amazing art to a Michael Jackson/DK looking ass moldy potato hand Kremlin.
At least one thing I do like about Mila's design is that when you compare her with Duma's regular design, you get a rather different feeling from both characters.
Besides, there are worse designs. Lloyd's design is easily the worst in the game. We also have Cordelia's standard design, standard Olivia (her Performing Arts design is a big improvement), standard Gwendolyn, standard Rebecca, Miyu Athena&Eliwood (ironically, I like the watery color pencil look. What ruined the two pieces are their faces), kawaii Lachesis (I may not be a fan of hers, but even I know she is supposed to be genuinely proud and tough. Even when she was younger, I can't imagine her having ever been all that cute), standard Ursula (at least her summer alt fixed her face and the art for her special looks rather haunting with the jellyfish in the background), and summer Noire.
Heck, the artist who drew Mila has easily done worse. Ogma and Jagen are his worst in this game.

I'll be honest I was holding my breath worrying if mah boi Merric was gonna show up in this list since I recall his base art getting made fun of for looking like a cereal mascot or something back in the day even though I thought it looked fine, glad to see he did not get mentioned. I will say I think Linde and Ninian looked fine, but do agree about Elincia, however I dunno maybe it's due to never playing Shadows of Valentia, but I always liked Mai's art and even seeing her official art that you showed I still think she looks fine in FEH especially when put up against many of the other character arts in this video, also I never disliked Male Robin's arts, but I do think base Male Grima's could have been done better. Save maybe the Ninja art I've never much cared for Camilla or her various alt arts, but on the topic of hot springs Camilla, I think what bugs me about the art and is the main issue that makes it look bad is how Small her head seems since it makes the whole art look really off kilter to the point of ruining it. I'll also say that I think it's very interesting that so many of Eirika's arts are just her in the same outfit, but a slightly different art style, since it feels realistic even if that realistic aspect isn't well suited for a gacha game like FEH, also on the topic of Arthur I think his comic book art style look is really neat and in a vacuum doesn't look bad at all, but that it does clash with the general style of pretty much every other unit and the game itself which makes it almost unpleasant to look at.
I think you have some pretty bold opinions. I disagree with Dimitri, but a lot of the others I can really get behind. You also love Christmas Hilda, which makes you a gentleman and a scholar.

I agree with most of this video, but I would include Cuboon, but only his most recent art. Compare his latest piece, New Year's Dagr (I believe), with one of his earlier pieces, base Palla, there is a degradation in his art and I hate it, I preferred it when there was more depth to his art than just making the booba extra big and shiny, or when the colors were much more varied and colorful. Maybe it's because I do art myself so I can recognize it easier, but how much his art has changed makes me sad, I miss his old art :(
