@@kaleem98 It's not the same though is it, there's still a massive hole on the left side not only from no left winger but also no left back. There's no space for anyone to do anything, Bellingham, Palmer and Saka were equally as ineffective as aplaymakers, Jude got the goal but foden setup sakas disallowed goal and was a yard or two away from being the hero of the tournament. It's about the team setup more so than individuals across the board. Our only two good plays were through foden. I agree he should be dropped but more because of the way Southgate plays.

I normally think Foden is so underrated but honestly this Euros hes been trash, so ineffective, no discipline. fair enough hes frustrated but then he drifts into his preferred position and does nothing. Even his offside goal, he has 0 reason to be offside there, just very poor overall

There are several players in the current squad who played in the previous euros (where we got to the final). So they have played well.
@@connorfrost195 If thats what Spencer meant then its an even more irrelevant point. Mainoo is 19, he was too young to play in previous tournaments so that should not be held against him.
I think the point is that he's not necessarily the answer to all the problems and that we need more changes.
I'm german. But I guess Spain will go through. I hope we could beat our Spain-Curse... but I guess it's the worst time to try against this strong Spain. Most of the germans will think Spain go through... but if you ask us in public, we would say Germany, cause we want to show our team we have trust. Even if my message doesn't sound like that. Southgate 3 tournaments ago had a back 3 that would work again now. It gets trent in, you can either fit foden and bellingham in or play mainoo and bellignham and start toney and kane up top to move the backline of swiss. Saka can play left wingback keeping width. My worry is southgate will think it was a masterclass by him and start the same team or a broken luke shaw 😩

Stop forcing Foden, there’s no way he can start. Palmer was AVERAGE at best and we cannot be gaslit into thinking his cameo was anything other than that. No one has done enough to move Saka from the RW position.

Spains wingers will make the difference. Let’s go back to the UCL Semi final…Bayern vs Real. Vini Jr absolutely roasted Kimmich that second half. Now I’m not comparing Vini to Nico but they are a very similar player. Lamal and Nico will cause havoc for the German fullbacks. They will stretch that German midfield. I can see this being a Pedri game. Finding little spaces. I would watch out for him. I trust the Spanish quality and depth a bit more than the Germans. Especially if this goes to extra time. Olmo, Oyarzabal, Ferran Torres are all young and energetic off the bench. It’s going to be a fantastic watch. 2-1 Spain.
Problem with Mainoo in midfield is he wants to play quickly and drive forward but he’s next to rice and in front of 4 defenders, all 5 of who want to slowly pass the ball back and forth. And then Kane next to him who looks like he can’t run.

I can tell you personally as a fan of Germany, Neuer has been absolutely brilliant for us, i have no idea where the narrative has come around that just because he made a few mistakes at the end of the season, he doesn't deserve to be the starter for Germany, and on top of that, Germany's only other options are Ter Stegen, who imo is a Very Shaky Goalkeeper at Barcelona, and a very inexperienced Nubel

I would die on this hill, start Palmer over Saka, he creates destroys the defender, he will make goals it's only a matter of time, get Saka on for him in 60th 70th minute depending on how Palmer's getting on and now that directness, the pace, of Saka is gonna terrify the slow and tired defenders. Palmer works better to start since he's more technical than Saka and Saka's effectiveness surely sky rockets against tiring defenders.

I think it's more that, relative to 15-25 years ago, the average standard has dipped. The euros used to be star studded in the noughties, Spain Italy France England Germany Holland Portugal all had all stars, we look around now and a lot of teams have great talents, but up and comers. This current England team, the way we play, would have been rinsed in the first decade of 2000. It also pays to remember in 2002, under Sven no less, we may have won the WC if we hadn't faced that Brazil team in the quarters, only losing 2-1 to the most ridiculous freekick most of us have ever seen.

This group of players have won all the big trophies at a young age (Foden, Walker, Stones, TAA, Tripper, Bellingham have all won league titles, all of those bar Trippier have won UCL). This was similar to golden generation at an earlier age.
The difference is that this group has gone further in major tournaments. One semi and a final, the golden generation didn't make it past a quarter final and didn't even qualify for Euro 2008.

It's absolutely mental that Gomez has basically become the forgotten man amongst pundits and Southgate himself. Who in their right mind would rather play Trippier, who has no consistent experience at left-back; Shaw, who is unfit and not the player he used to be - over Gomez, who played left-back for the majority of last season for Liverpool and was one of our standout players. It beggars belief. He hasn't even been used as a sub yet!
