The ADJ Warlock was an extremely popular barrel-scanning effect light that was unfortunately discontinued a while back. Now, Eliminator Lighting has come out with the Vortex, a light with some needed upgrades but the same great profile and effect. If you're going to create a light show around a single effect, the Vortex will do the job.

When I saw that it doesn’t have separate color / gobo wheels, that was the deal breaker for me. Why they didn’t do that doesn’t make any sense; especially, at this price point. I’ll have to keep looking for a Warlock.

Nice review, I received my Vortex today. However, I am pretty disappointed: There seem to be no option to program a continuous barrel pan movement, as the DMX channel for pan only has static values. Is there any workaround for that or am I missing something?
Eurolite has the cheaper CAT-80 which may not have the exact same quality, but has the exact same features, design, and effects.
i ordered the cheaper CAT-80. Would be interesting if there are some difference.
@@oliverbodzin It appears to have a slightly different mirror assembly and cheaper connectors. The product’s function is likely identical though.

got it and tested it. I don't like two things: 1: The build quality. The roller scratches the housing, for example. And 2. the way the roller distributes the light is less to my liking than I thought beforehand. I'm sending him back
Is the ADJ Warlock better than the Martin Wizard or Wizard Extreme?
When you need 100w and 150w for larger rooms, I wonder why they went with just 80w. Plus it's still as vulnerable as the old wizards were. So moving head more impressive, does more, less vulnerable.
Different types of effects. Much wider coverage and faster effect with the Vortex. Watts don’t tel the whole story, and 80W is significantly brighter than the LED lights many were using 5 years ago. All a matter of perspective! Thanks for watching.

Ok let me break it down and explain it in simpler terms.
Lots of the older wizards suffer mirror damage and that whole mechanism breaks quite often.
You don't have to take my word on it, ebay shows lots of them with this damage.
They had an opportunity to fix that they didn't hence my comment you can have the same effects, more versatility and less vulnerability in a moving head.
So I'd perhaps choose them for an on-site placement where they are not going to be transported, but I'd not recommend for a mobile DJ where travel is common. I know lots of people who replaced them with moving heads who gig 3-4 times a week, because even in flight cases they take damage, because..the mirror part is vulnerable.

The light is incredible just by itself. I just took the packaging out and put it a a pelican case I had hanging around.
Can i keep those patterns on the dancefloor in slow motion mode ( instead of the lights shooting out everywhere in mach speed) with the built in programs or do I need a DMX controller to do that? Great video!
Put it in sound to light but turn sound sensitivity right down, or show mode will scroll through all the patterns slowly.
@@LiamBranch Thanks! i just got my 2 Vortex lights. Do you think I should run a single long DMX cable to sync these or get a wireless DMX system like ADJ Mydmxgo with the dongles? I am thinking to run these on the slow mode the entire time.
@@esezate1 If you only have these 2 lights that you want to run master and slave then it's much cheaper and easier to just get a long DMX cable. Unless you're doing stage performances then you don't really need to program all the lighting via dmx. No one at a wedding or birthday party is really going to notice or appreciate a programed light show as opposed to running them all sound to light.
FOR that price, they really should have separate color wheel and gobo wheels.
